VTA CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

PLATFORM RETROFIT PROJECT


EFFECTIVE FEBRUARY 16, 2007
The following will be in effect as indicated, weather and conditions permitting.

What: Southbound light rail trains will travel through Tamien Station without stopping
on weekends for approximately the next six weekends beginning Saturday,
February 16, 2008.
North bound weekend service at Tamien Station will be provided as scheduled, as
will service at all other stations within the VTA light rail system.
Substitute bus service will be necessary only for southbound passengers on
weekends who are either completing or beginning their light rail trip at Tamien
Station.
Where: Tamien Station is located in Central San Jose.
When: From 5:59 a.m. Saturday morning until 1:59 a.m. the following Monday
morning. There is no impact to Monday morning commute service.
Why: The station is being retrofitted to allow level boarding between light rail
vehicles and the station platform.
Detour: Substitute bus service will run between Convention Center Station and
Tamien Station and between Tamien Station and Curtner Station.
Note: Weekday service at Tamien Station is not affected. Northbound weekend
service at Tamien Station is not affected. Weekend service to all other light rail
stations is not affected.

What: Virginia Light Rail Station will temporarily close to passenger service.
Where: Virginia Station is located in central San Jose.
When: Beginning Monday, February 25 and continuing until late April.
Why: The station is being retrofitted to allow level boarding between light rail
vehicles and the station platform.
Detour: Alternate VTA service is available from VTA Bus Route 25, which runs on
Willow Street every 10 minutes on weekdays and every 15 minutes on weekends.

What: Children’s Discovery Museum (CDM) Light Rail Station will temporarily close
to passenger service.
Where: CDM Station is located in downtown San Jose, at the intersection of Woz
Way and San Carlos Street.
When: Beginning Monday, February 25 and continuing until late April.
Why: The station is being retrofitted to allow level boarding between light rail
vehicles and the station platform.
Detour: The VTA light rail system can be accessed at the Convention Center Station
two blocks to the east. VTA Bus Route 23 also runs on San Carlos Street every 12
minutes on weekdays and every 15 minutes on weekends.

For the safety of the public and construction workers, traffic control measures will be
used when needed. Informational and warning signs will be posted as necessary to
ensure everyone’s safety. Construction crews will make every effort to maintain
access and minimize inconvenience to motorists.
