Consideration of a Resolution of the City Council accepting $2,000
from the Pacific Grove Concours Auto Rally for the Carmel Police
Department DARE/Diversion Program.
Recommendation(s): Adopt the Resoulution Accepting $2,000 from the Pacific Grove Concours
Auto Rally for the Carmel Police Department DARE/Diversion Program.
Executive Summary: The purpose of this item is to accept a $2000 donation from the Pacific
Grove Concours Auto Rally to support the Carmel Police Department
DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) and Juvenile Diversion Program.
Analysis/Discussion: The Pacific Grove Concours Auto Rally is a fund raiser for the Pacific Grove
Youth Action, which started in 1993. Since 2003, Pacific Grove Concours
Auto Rally has donated to benefit youth programs in the City of Carmel -
by-the-Sea.
Fiscal Impact:
Since inception, the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea has received a donation
of $2,000 from Pacific Grove Youth Action Inc., also known as the Pacific
Grove Concours Auto Rally, in support of the Carmel Police DARE (Drug
Abuse Resistance Education) Program. DARE is a school-based program
to help young people avoid drug and alcohol abuse. The Juvenile
Diversion program is for first time youth offenders primarily involving
drug and alcohol violations.
City Policy C89-41, Acceptance of Donations and Gifts to the City,
requires that City Council accept donations larger than $1,000. The
$2000 donation will be placed into Carmel Police DARE/ Diversion
Program Deposit Account #50-24050-0528.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA ACCEPTING A $2,000 DONATION FROM THE
PACIFIC GROVE CONCOURS AUTO RALLY FOR
THE CARMEL POLICE DEPARTMENT DARE/DIVERSION PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the Pacific Grove Concours Auto Rally is a local charitable organization
committed to supporting youth programs in Carmel; and
WHEREAS, the Pacific Grove Concours Auto Rally has offered a $2,000 donation to the
Carmel Police DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) and Diversion program; and
WHEREAS, the City's Policy C89-41 , Acceptance ofDonations and Gifts to the City, requires
City Council accept all gifts in excess of $1,000 by resolution of the City Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA DOES:
I . Accept the $2,000 donation from the Pacific Grove Auto Rally
and authorize it to be deposit into the Carmel Police DARE/Diversion Program
Account 50-24050-0528.
2. Request that the Mayor send a letter of appreciation to the Pacific Grove Concours
Auto Rally
