THE BEACON

When Was the Last Time Someone Asked You For Money?
So when was the last time someone asked you for money? This morning on TV? Yesterday at
the office? Mondays mail?
Let me tell you why Baughman UMC is worthy of your giving
First and foremost God changes lives through Baughman UMC. For example: A young cou-
ple recently returned to Baughman Church after a year away. They had moved to New Jer-
sey. But they came back to New Cumberland in part because they loved Baughman so much.
God was changing our lives at Baughman so we came back!
The second reason to give to Baughman UMC is because we have a heaven sent mission To
make disciples of Jesus Christ We are more than some social club or fraternal organiza-
tion. We are a Church whose mission is to lift people to God, and that is worthy of your in-
vestment.
A third reason to give to Baughman UMC is because money given to Baughman is well spent.
We have a growing congregation, a handsome facility, a skilled and caring staff, and a congre-
gation that is making a difference. If you (or someone you know) want help inviting Jesus into
your life, or if you want to grow spiritually, Baughman can help!
You may receive requests for money every day, but I assure you that your Church is worthy of
your giving.
God bless you. And thank you for all you do to grow Gods Kingdom!

In His Grip,

Win

You are Invited to...
Imagine savoring flavorful shortcake, rich ice cream, red,
juicy strawberries topped with a healthy dollop of whipped
cream, eaten under a balmy spring sky, (we hope), sur-
rounded by family and friends.
YES, FOLKS, IT IS STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL TIME !
The Missions Work area will be holding the Annual Straw-
berry Festival on the lawn on Friday evening, June 6,
2014, from 5:30 pm until we run out of food. In case of
rain it will be held in the gym.
For this to be a "berry" good event we need your help.
CLEANING: the strawberries will be cleaned on Thursday, June 5 at 9:00 A.M. in the kitchen.
Men, women and youth are welcome to help. Please bring your own paring knife.
SET UP: will be on Friday, June 6 at 4 pm. We need lots of strong men and women to set up
tables and chairs on the lawn. If you are not strong you can put on tablecloths.
SERVERS: We will take ANY body at ANY time from 5 pm until dark. We have to staff a lot of
lines so that patrons get served quickly, so please help. As an extra added bonus we'll even give
you time off to eat!
CLEAN UP: What comes out must go in so willing hands are appreciated after the event. Don't
rush home but stay and work off all those extra calories.
BAKED GOODS: Our baked goods table is always a success due to the wonderful goodies that
our Baughman Bakers create. Please bake something for us and have it to the church by 5 pm.
EAT: Please come and eat all the goodies we will have. Besides the Strawberry Shortcake we also
have hot dogs, hot sausage, Bar-B-Que and assorted beverages. You'll love it!
As you can see there is a lot to be done. We will try to ask each of you personally, but that is not
always possible. Don't feel slighted, please just come EVEN IF YOU DON'T GET A PHONE
CALL. You can also call Dotsy Baiza at 774-4510.
The proceeds this year go to New Hope Ministries and The Caring Place.

The After School Program sponsored by the new Cumberland Ministerium was launched in
March. The program takes place two nights a week, Monday and Wednesday, from 3:30-
5:30pm at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. Joel Giovannetti of New Hope Ministries is the pro-
gram manager. The program addresses students in grades 1 - 5 at Hillside Elementary
School. The program is designed to teach children good study habits as well as to keep them
from failing. The purpose of the ministry is to provide adult role models and relationships,
to encourage children to have good relationships with family, friends and the community at
large, to affirm each childs value and worth, to promote educational success and to
share Gods unconditional love and His relevance in their lives. The program in-
cludes snacks and wholesome recreation. Persons who wish to volunteer may con-
tact Joel at New Hope Ministries, jgiovannetti@nhm-pa.net / 766-7333, ext 3016.

JUNE 2014
Dear Prayer Shawl Ministry, The prayer shawl given to me was of great help as I
went through the recent sinus surgery. In fact, I continue to use it. I like the color, size
and soft nature of the yarn, and knowing you all were praying for me was encouraging and
comforting. May God continue to bless you all as you minister in this very practical, use-
ful way to those in need. Love and Prayers, Rev. Carolyn Seifert
On behalf of Mission Central, I want to thank you for your donation of $100.00 on
April 23, 2014. What a blessing! We thank you for contributing toward the ministry
work of Mission Central. Your gift will be used toward the furtherance of the Lords call
to be the hands and feet of Christ. In Service to the Risen Christ, Rob Visscher, Executive
Director
Dear Baughman U. M. Church, On behalf of the Special Olympics PA Area M and
our 1700 athletes, thank you for your generous support! Your gift of $50.00 received on 5/8/14 helps provide opportu-
nities for our athletes to train in 19 different sports and compete at local, sectional and state-level competitions across
Pennsylvania every year. Together, we transform lives though the joy of sports. Thank you so much for your donation.
Sincerely, Kristie Davis, Program Director
Dear Baughman United Methodist Church, Epilogos thanks you for your extremely generous contribution of
$180.00 for the 2014 education and scholarships programs in San Jose Villanueva. Your support of our work in El Salva-
dor is invaluable. Please know that your donation makes our mission to help our neighbors in San Jose Villanueva possible.
With gratitude, Terry S. Phillips, President
Thank you!- Surgery and recovery is progressing well, thanks to my Baughman church familys encouragement and sup-
port through prayers, visitations, cards, flowers and meals. Special thanks to Dr. Green for his visits and calls during this
time. Linda Olley
