Kolkata: Citing inadequate infrastructure, newly appointed West
BengalEducationMinisterParthaChatterjeeThursdaysaidonline
admission to undergraduate courses in state-run colleges is not
mandatoryanymore.ItwasannouncedthattheadmissiontoUG
courses to government funded colleges in the state will be done
online,butwearenotyetreadywiththesoftwarerequiredforthe
purpose.Moreover,manycollegesdonothaveconnectivity.Sowe
cantgoforonlineadmissionsfor2014-15,Chatterjee,whorecently
replacedBratyaBasuinthepost,toldreporters.Withaviewtocurb
malpractices,Basuhadadvocatedthatthestaterununiversities
startadmissionsonline.Followingwhichthestategovernment,
through a recent notification, had made online admission
mandatory from academic year 2014-15 to all UG courses in
state-fundedcolleges.However,institutionsthathaveadequate
infrastructure and have been admitting students online can
continuewiththeprocess.

exempted from OBC quota
NewDelhi,May30:TheDelhiHighCourtFridayexempted
fourminoritycollegesofDelhiUniversityfromreserving27
percentseatsforstudentsfromOtherBackwardClasses
(OBCs)forthe2014-15academicyear.
JusticeManmohanpassedtheorderwhilehearingapleafiledby
MataSundariCollegeseekingexemptionfromtheOBCquotaas
itwasminority-runinstitution.TheorderwillbenefitfourDU
colleges run by Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee
(DSGMC),constitutedundertheDelhiSikhGurdwarasAct.Apart
fromMataSundariCollege,theseareGuruTeghBahadurKhalsa
College,GuruGobindSinghCollege,andGuruNanakDevKhalsa
Coll ege all decl ared mi nori t y i nst i t utes.
Passing the order, the court also said that these colleges shall
providereservationinadmissionforScheduledCastes/Scheduled
TribesaspertheDelhiUniversitysnorms,buttheywillnotbe
obligedtogivereservationtoOBCsforthisacademicsession.
Mata Sundari College, during the hearing, contended that the
reservationpolicywasnotapplicabletotheseinstitutionsinview
of a Supreme Court verdi ct on OBC reservat i ons.
The apex court had held that minority educational institutions
(MEI),whethertheywereaidedbythegovernmentorunaided,
wereexemptedfromreservingseatsforOBCs,thecollegeadded.
However,DUmaintainedthatreservationruleofDUforOBC
shoul d be f ol l owed by t hese col l eges also.

Mumbai,May30:ChildRightsandYou(CRY),anonprofitorganization
workingtoensurelastingchangeinchildrenslives,onFridayinvited
applicationsfromresearchfellowsexploringvariousdimensionsofchild
rights,withinthebroadunderstandingofjusticeforchildren.
CRYnotedthatuptofivefellowshipsrangingfromRs.50,000toRs.1
lakhwillbeawarded.
Thefellowshipaimsatprovidinganopportunityforresearchers,towork
onvariousissues,includingevidenceontherelationshipsbetweenethnicity,
inequalityandconflictaswitnessedorexperiencedbychildrenand
explorationofrelationshipsachildhaswithotherchildren,community,
stateandfamily.Thedeadlineforsubmittingtheapplicationforthe
fellowshipisJun20andthenamesofselectedresearcherswillbe
announcedontheCRYwebsiteinSeptember2014.
CRYsaidthatduringtheyear-longfellowship,theresearcherscandevelop
andinterpretthemesonthebasisoftheirexperiencesandideas.Research
findingswillbemadeavailabletoactivists,academicians,development
practitionersandthegeneralpublic.
Thecandidatesshouldbemorethan18yearsofageandmustbeIndian
citizens.TheycanchooseanyIndianlanguage,includingEnglishfortheir
research.Theessentialrequirementsfortheapplicationincludeathree-
pageproposal,whichbrieflyexplainsthetopicofstudy,objectivesand
outlinestheresearchquestionwithinaframework,proposedmethodology,

incubationcenterswhichwillgrantRs.12lakheachtostudentswithinnovative
businessideas,thevarsityvicechancellorsaidFriday.
Thestepfollowsamemorandumofunderstandingthevarsitysignedwiththe
centralmicro,smallandmediumenterprises(MSME)ministry.

Mr. M.V. Krishna Reddy, DEO,
Visakhapatnam warn against the
management of unrecognised
schools to face the consequences for
violating the Govt. Rules. He advised
the managements to take necessary
action in time to fulfill the
requirements for receiving
recognition from the Department.
Mr. Reddy also advised the parents
that, not to send their children to
any unrecognised school from here
onwards due to latest changes in
the education system.
According to Mr. Reddy obtaining
T.C. & Study Certificates from
unrecognised schools are invalid.
Similarly whose children are
studying in unrecognised schools
will loose Govt. concessions,
facilities as well as 20 Internal
Marks. As per latest law one can
not attend exams. Privately from
2014-15 onwards.
According to the DEO there have
been many steps were taken to
create awareness among parents at
rural as well as urban level. Notices
will be served and fine will be
imposed soon on unrecognised
schools. Activities such as Rallies,
Awareness Camps, Distribution of
leaflets/pamphlets etc., are
underway he added.
