The Holy Week

By Claudia D
What Is The Holy
Week?
Holy week is the last week of Lent. It begins
with Palm Sunday and ends with Good
Friday.
Palm Sunday
Scripture Reference:
Mark 11:1-11;
Jesus Christ was on his way to Jerusalem,
knowing that this trip would end in death for
the sin of humanity. He sent two disciples ahead
to the village of Bethphage.
He told them to look for a donkey tied by a
house, with its baby horse next to it. Jesus told
the disciples to tell the owners of the animal that
The Lord has need of it.
The disciples found the donkey, brought it to
Jesus, and placed their cloaks on the baby
horse. Jesus sat on the young donkey and
slowly, humbly, made his great entry into
Jerusalem. In his path, people threw their cloaks
on the ground and put palm branches on the
road before him. Others waved palm branches
in the air.

Large crowds surrounded Jesus, shouting
"Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is
he who comes in the name of the Lord!
Hosanna in the highest!"

Monday

Scripture Reference:
Mark 11:12-19
Jesus Christ and his disciples journeyed to Jerusalem
to celebrate the feast of the Passover. They found the
sacred city of God, overflowing with thousands of
pilgrims (travellers) from all parts of the world. That
is when he saw the money-changer.
Jesus was so filled with anger at the damage of the
holy place that he took some ropes and wove them
into a small whip. He ran about, knocking over the
tables of the money changers, spilling coins on the
ground. He drove the money-changers out of the
area. He also prevented people from using the court
as a shortcut.
As he cleaned the Temple of greed and profit, Jesus
quoted "My house shall be called a house of prayer,
but you make it a den of robbers."
The common people were impressed by
Jesus' teaching, but the chief priests
feared him because of his popularity.
They began to plot a way to destroy
Jesus.

Thursday
Scripture reference:

Mark 14:12-51

Jesus sent Peter and John to the Upper Room in
Jerusalem to make the preparations for the
Passover Feast.
After sunset, Jesus washed the feet of his
disciples as they prepared to share in the
Passover. By performing this humble act of
service, Jesus demonstrated how they were to
love one another.
Then Jesus shared the feast of Passover with his
disciples saying, "I have been very eager to eat
this Passover meal with you before my suffering
begins. For I tell you now that I won't eat this
meal again until its meaning is fulfilled in the
Kingdom of God. Then he said 'This is my body,
which is given for you. Do this in memory of me.'
And likewise the cup after they had eaten,
saying, 'This cup that is poured out for you. This is
the new bond in my blood.'
Later, Jesus and his disciples left the
Room and went to the Garden, where
Jesus prayed in agony to God the Father.
Late that evening, Jesus was betrayed by
Judas and arrested.
Friday
Scripture references:
Mark 14:53-15:47
They took Jesus to Pilate. "Are You the king of the
Jews?" asked Pilate. "Yes, it is as you say," Jesus
replied. "Crucify him!" they shouted. "Why? What crime
has he committed?" asked Pilate. But they shouted all
the louder, "Crucify Him!" Wanting to satisfy the crowd,
Pilate handed Him over to be crucified.
It was the third hour when they crucified Him.
On the third day, Jesus arose from the dead and
ascended to heaven.
