How to Reset an Acer BIOS Password

Acer is a leading computer hardware

manufacturer. They make desktop computers,
notebooks, monitors, projectors, servers, and
storage devices.
Every Acer computer and laptop comes with a
pre-installed BIOS software. This BIOS software
is generally protected and secured by some
password. Because it is a common tendency for
any person to forget passwords, this article
specifically discusses about resetting or
recovering BIOS password of any Acer computer
or laptop.
Mentioned below are few ways by which an Acers BIOS password can be reset or recover ed.
Using Acer eSettings Management
This method will work only if you can boot into your Acer computer. Once you boot in, you can use Acer
eSettings Management to reset the BIOS password.
Note: Installing Acer Empowering Technology is a prerequisite to use Acer eSettings Management . Both
utilities can be downloaded here.
Step 1: Open Start Menu by clicking the Start button on your desktop.
Step 2: Go to All Programs > Empowering Technology > Acer eSettings Management.
Step 3: Click BIOS Passwords near the footer of the screen.
Step 4: With the Create Password or Remove Password options, you should be able to regain
control.

Using Computer Hardware
This method involves fiddling with the computer hardware and components. Proceed only if youre
confident enough to do this task. This may also void your warranty period. The steps below are
mentioned for both, desktop computers and laptops.
Step 1: Disconnect the power cord from your desktop computer or laptop.
Step 2: Remove the cabinet cover of your desktop.
For a laptop, turn it upside-down and remove the battery. Open the hard drive compart ment by sliding
the cover out. Unscrew and pull out the hard drive from your laptop.
Step 3: Locate a coin-shaped clock battery (also known as CMOS Lithium battery) and remove it. Keep it
aside for at least an hour.
For a laptop, disconnect the tiny power lead that connects the clock battery to the motherboard. Keep it
disconnected for at least an hour.
Otherwise, you can also locate a BIOS reset jumper marked CLRP1. Move this jumper to Clear position.
Let it be in this condition for at least an hour.
Step 4: After about an hour, replace the battery in the socket or move the jumper back to the Run
position.
Step 5: Fit the cabinet cover and start your computer.
If done right, your computer or laptop should boot up without asking for any BIOS password.
Contacting Acer Customer Support
Acer refuses to assist customers with BIOS password issues. The only option they discuss involves
sending the laptop to them and paying a $100 fee.
Below is a copy of an email from Acer Support:
Thank you for contacting Acer America. I apologize for the delay in responding to your inquiry. In
order to have the BIOS or hard disk password removed (This include any biometric security), the
notebook will need to come in to our repair depot for password removal. This service is not covered
by warranty and unfortunately there is no other recourse to remove a BIOS or HDD password from
the notebook. The flat fee for BIOS password removal is $100.00 US dollars plus tax. If it is a BIOS or
HDD password and you would like us to service it for you, please contact our telephone technical

Using Online BIOS Password Generator
BIOS Password Generator Tool
Instructions:
Most BIOS password checksums are stored on the Flash ROM. Therefore, many manufacturers
display this checksum (often called hash) on the screen by keying in 3 invalid passwords.
Example: [CNU1234ABC]
1.
Do not be scared by any system messages such as System Disabled. Just plugout all power
cords, replug and restart.
2.
Enter the checksum/hash (without any braces) you see on the screen in the above textbox and
click Compute.
3.

as acer 5810 is a laptop, the cmos information is stored in eeprom and not in the bat ery, so you need to
flash or change the eeprom.
if you think this solution is very tricky, you can jump the 2 cables conected to the small batery to have a
closed circuit and release the energy.

Hi guys,
I also have a serious problem: My employer gave me a brandnew acer travelmate 8372t.
I have set up PBA authentication (password) on HUNGARIAN keyboard.
I made a restart, I got a bluedead-screen.
After rebooting it asked for password seemingly it expected some ENGLISH keyboard t ype in. THE
PASSWORD HAS NOT WORKED. I tried every forms of my password, really; maybe there happened
some problem while that blue screen crash, I dont know.
Please, anyone, any experience with this ACER 8372t???
I dont have 100$ redundant penalty fee for ACER
However I am a bit scared about mending out parts of this notebook, without getting a positive
experience with such a type.

If its the hungarian keyboard thats the issue have you tried plugging in an external english keyboard
and typing the password with that?
Also, this sounds a bit strange. If it came with a hungarian keyboard then Id assume the bios would
support it just fine..

I had an Acer netbook that would not stop rebooting, I was able to fix it by removing the RAM memory,
and reinserting it ( oxidized contacts).
I learned this fix from another website, so maybe it is common problem,if it helps you please share the
information with everyone.

How to Reset my Acer laptop BIOS Password HELP ME PLEASE!

What have you tried so far?
Acer-Man
I have an Acer 6920G laptop and found my solution.
Open the large piece of plastic and look at the front left corner of the keyboard under the remaining
plastic is a yellow circle. It is the battery. It is held in place by a piece of 2-si ded tape. There is a white
plastic plug next to it with red and black wires that you can easily get to. This connects the battery to the
board. Unplug it. BE CAREFUL not to squeeze it too tight it has shoulders on the top of it that will squish.
Thats not the problem. The socket the plug goes into is the same size as the shoulders so you have to
be sure not to put the pliers too far down so they grab the socket as well. I left it unplugged for 10
minutes with main battery out and sporadically pressed the on/off button. BIOS is now cleared and I
put in the correct date and am up and running
