Course Requirements for M.Eng.

(Civil)
Course Groups in Civil Engineering Program
Notes: (a) List of course offerings: http://www.encs.concordia.ca/scs/content/CGrad/GradSchedule.htm
(b) The Course Groups are shown color coded and their numbers are indicated in column D of The Course Selection Table
(c) Courses in Topic Areas (shown in Column C of the Course Selection Table) are listed in the Graduate Calendar
Group 1 - Environmental Engineering and Water Resources: Topic Areas: E04, E33, E36, E37
Group 2 - Geotechnical and Transportation Engineering: Topic Areas: E03, E34, E35
Group 3 - Structural Engineering: Topic Areas: E06, E31, E32
Group 4 - Construction Management: Topic Areas: E21, and E24
Course Selection is based on the following requirements:
(i) A minimum of 21 credits ALL chosen from only ONE of the preceding four Course Groups.
This set of courses may also include the project course ENGR 6991 (5-cr), seminar BCEE 6961 (1-cr),
or the industrial training course ENCS 6931 (9-cr)
Notes: Students who have taken ENCS 6931 cannot take any of the following three courses: ENGR 6971, ENGR 6981 or ENGR 6991; and vice-versa.
The courses selected here should be in the area of your main interest.
(ii) A minimum of three courses (12 credits) chosen from the three remaining Course Groups (i.e. excluding the group chosen in i).

Example: If in (i) above you had chosen courses in Group 2, now you must take at least 3
courses in Groups 1 and/or 3 and/or 4.
Note: The courses selected here are in other area(s) within Civil Engineering.
These courses could include special program courses put on for or
by a given industry in conjunction with the Faculty.
(iii) A maximum of three courses (12 credits) chosen from the Engineering Courses section (see Graduate Calendar)
including E72 (M.B.A. courses).
Note: Here, you may take additional courses in your area of main interest and/or courses in diverse areas of engineering.
REVIEW/MAKE-UP COURSES (NOT credited towards the 45-credit requirement)
ENCS 6001 Elements of Engineering Mathematics
ENCS 6011 Engineering Analysis I
ENCS 6101 Numerical Methods I
ENGR 6101 Physical Systems
Additional Advices for Course Selection
1. Choose 2 to 4 courses per semester (Full-time). Plan them so that all 3 requirements are met prior to graduation.
To register for more than 3 courses, students must have obtained CGPA of 3.5 minimum with no F or C grade.
2. In a semester, you can mix courses of different groups; however, pay attention to the required pre-requisites.
3. The project course (ENGR 6991) or the seminar course (BCEE 6961) should be taken in the second half of your program.
4. ESL courses (if required) must be registered and completed as soon as possible.
