IT organizations are motivated by one or more business drivers.

Here we highlight and explore common areas of pain for the prospect.
BMC ADDM supports and delivers functionality for each of the business drivers.
Reduce IT Costs Hardware and software asset information is typically parceled out in different forms across different sources
resulting in underutilized assets and redundant datastores and toolsets that soak up operational $$$ leaving next to nothing left for
innovation
With BMC:
BMC Atrium Discovery and Dependency Mapping (ADDM) maintains an accurate inventory of resources and how they are connected
all of the time - enabling you to consolidate and maximize utilization. Hardware and software assets both inside and outside of the
data center are managed efficiently and consolidated when possible.
New! ADDM (with new Licensed Add-On) enables you to optimize resources based on Energy usage, Heat Dissipation, and Support
Lifecycle information!
Minimize Impact of Change Changes fail more often than not because they are based on inaccurate or incomplete information
With BMC:
ADDM automatically gathers the information about Configuration Items (CIs) and how they are related - impact relationships - and can ADDM automatically gathers the information about Configuration Items (CIs) and how they are related - impact relationships - and can
put that information into the BMC Atrium CMDB. Changes are more likely to be successful with reduced risk to the business due to both
planning and execution using accurate and timely configuration and impact relationship information.
New! ADDM can ensure integrity of the information it discovers, tracking changes to discovered assets and reporting on those changes
Increase Business Impact IT investments get allocated to projects that gain visibility for the wrong reasons organizational politics,
trends - with little to no consideration to how they will actually help drive the business forward Disaster Recovery planning is outdated
before its completed because of dated information
With BMC:
ADDM can discover how infrastructure components connect to and support business processes - forming the basis of business
service models that you can use to manage based on business impact. IT assets, applications are managed from the perspective of the
business services they support. Effective and efficient Disaster Recovery plans are automatically maintained.
Enable Virtualization in the Datacenter Many orgs have deployed Virtualization only to wonder Do I have any idea of how many
VMs I have, where they are, what are they actually doing, and why? -
With BMC:
ADDM keeps pace with Virtualizations rate of change - detecting VM state, launching on-demand scans of VMs in response to V-
motion moves and continuously updates the CMDB and its service models - giving you accurate and timely asset and impact information
about your virtual infrastructure

scale, respond quickly, meet commitments consistently, effectively utilize assets,
and provide visibility across operations
-- In short, its why the expectations on the previous slide are very hard for IT
organizations to meet
Sample presentation:
IT has many highly manual processes, often held together by paper-based forms,
spreadsheets, email or personal relationships. There is very little common
shared information about IT configurations and assets, and whats worse, what
usually exists is not mapped to meaningful business information like business
priority or value supported.
This situation makes it difficult for IT organizations or service providers to scale,
respond quickly, meet commitments consistently, effectively utilize assets, and
provide visibility across operations.
Key Points:
-- Just as ERP provided a platform for effective business planning and operations, BSM provides a platform for effective IT -- Just as ERP provided a platform for effective business planning and operations, BSM provides a platform for effective IT
planning and operations
-- BSM offers a common and consistent way for information to be shared across IT functions and departments
-- BSM also simplifies, standardizes, and automates IT processes through out-of-the-box best practice templates and integrated
workflow
-- BMC learned from early ERP implementations, and built a platform that avoids the traditional challenges of ERP adoption
Sample presentation:
Just as ERP provided a platform for effective business planning and operations, BSM provides a platform for effective IT
planning and operations. The notion of a platform provides two fundamental benefits. First, the platform provides a consistent
way of sharing information. Just as businesses needed to standardize around terms such as "customer", IT organizations need
to standardize around consistent terms, such as "services", "resources", and so on. A platform approach also standardizes the
communications and workflow between functions through APIs and a shared data model. With a platform-based approach, the
output of one function becomes the input to another (for example, the output of request management is an input to change
management).
Second, this platform provides the ability to quickly adopt best practices and automate workflow. Historically, IT organizations
have worked in silos, which is great for building and maintaining areas of functional expertise, but inefficient when multiple IT
departments are required to work together. By delivering out-of-the-box best practice templates for IT processes and
automating many mundane, repetitive, and error prone tasks, IT organizations can focus time and effort on better meeting
business expectations and requirements.
In making this analogy to ERP, it's important to note that BMC has learned from the 20 years of ERP implementations
that have happened globally. Two key ways in which BSM has differentiated itself from traditional ERP. First, implementation
does not have to be an "all or none" issue. We strongly believe in a stepwise implementation path, where return on investment
can be demonstrated at each step along the way. Second, the architecture for BSM is not a single-monolithic architecture.
Rather, it combines key attributes of composite applications, such as rapid implementation, ability to work standalone, and rapid
integration with other components (e.g. SOA-based APIs and federation vs. centralization of your most critical IT information.)
4
Key Point: BMC Atrium is the technology platform for BSM. It provides a
common and consistent way to share information and automate processes common and consistent way to share information and automate processes
across IT functions and departments.
At BMC we believe that implementation does not have to be an "all or none"
approach. We strongly believe in a stepwise implementation path, where return
on investment can be demonstrated at each step along the way.
Our BSM Blueprint illustrates the 5 major project areas:
Request and Support Simplify and automate processes for requesting,
changing, and supporting business services.
Provision and Configure Consistently deploy business services across
applications, servers, networks, and clients.
Monitor and Operate Proactively identify and resolve IT issues
across cloud, virtual, distributed, and mainframe environments.
Plan and Govern Manage your IT supply, demand, and budget and ensure
compliance with policies and regulations.
Integrate and Orchestrate Discover, model, visualize, and assign priority
to business services. Federate and orchestrate data and workflow to
improve efficiency. Delivered by BMC Atrium.
Key Points:
BMC Atrium Discovery and Dependency Mapping (ADDM) meets all of these
requirements and goes above and beyond with the following :
Fastest TTV No Discovery and Dependency Mapping solution deploys and
provides actionable discovery results faster than BMC ADDM ADDM quickly
deploys as a virtual appliance across the most challenging and distributed
environments using a combination of credentialess/passive discovery, active
discovery, and iterative discovery techniques, ADDM quickly builds an
inventory of all of your assets and maps how they are connected/related
Broadest Enterprise Coverage & Data Center Insight ADDM is the only
solution that discovers Energy usage, Heat Dissipation, and Support
Lifecycle information about your infrastructure so you can cut costs and
consolidate where it makes the most sense, all while keeping an eye on
support lifecycles so you can make sure your critical business applications
are fully supported. BMC ADDM is the only solution that provides this level
of insight across Physical and Virtual, Mainframe and Distributed giving it
an unmatched breadth and depth of coverage
Largest Open Pattern Library & Active Community ADDM includes
thousands (over 29,000) of prebuilt packaged application and device
signatures out of the box (covering Networks, Storage, AS400, Mainframe,
and more) easily the largest available but even so, new products, applications,
and devices are released everyday, so its critical that your Discovery and
Dependency mapping solution keeps up with that change, so BMC provides
monthly pattern updates to keep you up to date ADDM also makes it easy to

BMC Atrium Discovery and Dependency Mapping supports many IT initiatives,
including: including:
Asset & Software License Management: ADDM answers the question What
all do I have? definitively and accurately, simplifying Asset & Vendor
Management
Data Center Automation and Proactive Operations: To automate the data
center youve got to first know what you have to work with, then how its all
connected and ideally which matter ADDM does all of this - its how you know
which servers or switches matter and which ones dont
Green IT ADDM helps you quickly identify the most power hungry and hottest
devices in the data center getting you on the fast track to reducing your
environmental impact
Change & Release Management: Change and Release Success is predicated
on high quality and timely information used in these processes ADDM
discovers the configuration and relationship information you have to have to
manage the impact of proposed changes
Virtualization: Keeping up with the rapid changes in Virtual Machine
configurations and relationships/dependencies especially the link between
physical and virtual is tough to do you need a Discovery and Dependency
Mapping tool (like ADDM) to do this automatically
Every organization has some of the answers to some of these questions, but few
are getting that information automatically, accurately, and consistently. In order are getting that information automatically, accurately, and consistently. In order
to address Data Center Consolidation, Virtualization, Asset and Vendor
Management, Change and Release Management, Disaster Recovery, and
ITIL/CMDB initiatives.you need BMC Atrium Discovery and Dependency

When developing Foundation, the Tideway team used innovative artificial
intelligence techniques to encapsulate the knowledge equivalent of a thousand
well-behaved systems administrators working 24/7/365. It provides automated
intelligence on a daily or even hourly basis, delivering a view of which systems
and applications are running where - and how theyve changed. A one-time
manual inventory of 1000 servers can take up to 60 person-days of work and is
often outdated before it is even complete. Foundation automates this costly
function and delivers actionable data for ITSM.
