Process Paper: Oskar Schindler
In my Honors English class this year we have talked about the atrocity that was the
Holocaust, and how it took place in one of the most civilized countries in modern society. During
my studies I was introduced to the 1993 movie Schindlers List. This movie gave me my first
introduction to the unforgettable rescuer of 1,200 persecuted Jews, Oskar Schindler. It was
amazing to me that one of the vilified Nazis I have grown to despise actually stood up against
the liquidation of innocent Jews and risked his fortune and life to save them from Auschwitz
death camp. I knew I had found my topic for triumph out of tragedy.
First of course I had the source of Schindlers List and this gave me a brief (and slightly
inaccurate) overview of Schindler and his story. I then ventured into the big-wide-world of the
web to do some background research on Schindler and his monstrosity of a companion Amon
Goeth. For background on Schindler www.yadvashem.org, www.oskarschindler.dk, and
www.oskarschindler.com were very helpful and also showed some author bias that helped show
me different viewpoints. For Amon Goeth I visited www.hitlerschildren.com which gave me
some insight to the men Schindler was associated with. One of the most useful resources for me
was the book Schindlers Legacy and it gave me a view of how Schindler really affected the
Jews he saved.

After the research stage I began to build my website using www.weebly.com. First I
chose a suitable background and then I used the most relevant pictures I had come across during
my research stage as a PowerPoint and as a header of the home page and put my thesis on that
page as well. On the about page I put background information and other facts that would support
my thesis. I spent my spare time revising and editing the website and accruing additional data
that supported my thesis.
Anti-Semitic feelings in Germany had been building for years. They came to a head with
the initiation of the initiation of the final solution that sent over 6 million Jews to their graves.
Oskar Schindler was the reason that 1,200 Jews were saved from the crematories and unmarked
graves. He took the tragedy of the Holocaust and turned it into a triumph of human nature over
the powers of the wicked. Schindler was the vessel for Jewish triumph in a time of tragedy.
