The general attitude towards Sumerian was that it was the divine medium between a

mortal and a god. It was made of monosyllabic words that gradually evolved into
more complicated structures to create human speech. The truth was very different
from the religious propaganda though. Semitic scribes chopped Akkadian words to
create new Sumerian words, basically an artificial tongue and then they tried to
engineer the spoken language to suit their religious dogma.
