Tangled

Thank you and a very good morning to you Mr. Chairman, honorable judges, respective
teachers and not to forget my fellow friends. I am very happy to be here. Today I would like
to tell all of you a story about a girl who had shining golden hair. It all started with the sun.
Now, once upon a time, a single drop of sunlight fell from the heavens and from that
single drop of sun, grew a magic golden flower. An old crone named Gothel found the
flower and discovered that if she sang a song, it emitted a power that has the potential to
heal the sick and injured but most of all it has the power to restore her youth. Vain and
possessive of the flower, Gothel hid it and regularly return to it to keep herself young.
However, the Queen was pregnant and soon fell ill. She needed the flower to heal her. The
King ordered all of his soldiers out to find it and they took it from Gothel. They brought it
back to the castle and given it to the Queen. The Queen recovered and soon gave birth to a
baby girl who had shining golden hair. The Royal Family celebrated the occasion by lighting a
paper lantern into the sky.
Gothel however was not pleased. So, she crept into the castle late one night and found the
baby princess lying in her crib. She recited the song and the babys hair glowed just as the
flower had. Gothel attempted to cut some hair but Oh No! it turned brown in her hands.
Frustrated and desperate, Gothel resolved to kidnap the baby princess deep into the forest.
She took the baby to a secret tower, gave her the name Rapunzel and raised her as her own
daughter.
She kept her hidden from the outside world and keep telling her Its for your own safety
Rapunzel! The only access to the world Rapunzel had was a wide window from which
Mother Gothel came and went down using Rapunzels hair as a rope ladder.
She grows up into a creative young lady. Though she is happy with her life in the tower,
she longs to someday explore the outside world and see the place floating lights in the sky
come from. Within the kingdom, young thief, Flynn Rider goes over the plans to his latest
heist with his associates, the Stabbington Brothers. Flynn steals the missing princesss prized
tiara. He leaves the brothers behind and runs into the forest.
Flynn comes to the tower and climbs the vines to the open window above. There, he is
seemingly alone and takes the tiara out of his satchel to admire it but suddenly, he is
knocked out. Rapunzel steps forward with her frying pan and she investigate the intruder.
Pascal, using his colour schemes, advises Rapunzel to be wary of the young man. However,
Rapunzel finds nothing outwardly menacing about the man and hides him in her closet as
Mother Gothel comes home.
Rapunzel decides that she will show Mother Gothel the young man, proving that she can
take care of herself, in hopes that she will be let out of the tower for her approaching 18
th

birthday. However, when Rapunzel plucks up the courage to ask Mother, can I go out and
see those floating lights?.
Mother Gothel spurns her request and said
You want to go outside? Why Rapunzel!
Look at you, as fragile as a flower.
Still a little sapling just a sprout.
You know why we stay up in this tower?
I know but
Thats right, to keep you safe and sound dear,
Guess I always knew this day was coming.
Knew that soon youd want to leave the nest.
But..
Trust me pet, Mother knows the best.
Listen to me its a scary world out there.
One way or another, something with go wrong I swear
With ruffians, thugs, poison ivy, quicksand, cannibals and snakes the plague.
Also large bugs, man with pointy teeth.
Just stop! No more, you will just upset me.
Im right here, I will protect you darling.
Heres what I suggest.
Skip the drama and stay with me because mothers knows the best.

Rapunzel solemnly promises not to ask to leave the tower again. She asks if Mother Gothel
could restore her white paint by collecting special white seashells for her birthday. Mother
Gothel is hesitant to make the journey to the shore, but acquises and leaves. Once out of
sight, Rapunzel takes Flynn out of the closet and uses her hair to tie him up to a chair. When
he comes to, she proposes a deal I will give you your satchel back with the tiara if you take
me to see the floating lights and bring me back to the tower before Mother Gothel returns.
Flynn reluctantly agrees.
Outside the tower, Rapunzel digs her toes into the grass for the first time and runs about
the forest in burst of elation and panic while Flynn can only watch. Hoping to dissuade her,
Flynn takes her to a nearby Snuggly Duckling Inn which is frequented by an assortment of
bandits and thugs. His plan backfires when the thugs recognize him. Rapunzel plead to them
Please release Flynn. Have any of you have ever had a dream of exploring the world. The
world that you have never step on and wished to step on it. Her innocence melts their
hearts and they all confess their dreams. When the guards arrived at the inn, the thugs and
bandits help Rapunzel and Flynn escape through a secret tunnel and encourage her to live
her dream.
The next day, when Flynn leaves to gather more firewood, Mother Gothel appears to
Rapunzel from the nearby bushes and tells her that they must return to the tower. Rapunzel
refuses to leave and tells that she thinks that Flynn likes her. Mother Gothel scoffs at the
idea and tells Rapunzel that Flynn is only interested in one thing before revealing the satchel
with the tiara. She tells Rapunzel to prove her wrong and test Flynn by giving him the
satchel but not to come crying if he takes it and leaves. She reveals the satchel she had been
hiding to Flynn but, unlike what Mother Gothel predicted, he puts it aside.
After he realizes he cares more about Rapunzel than the tiara, he went to see the
Stabbington Brothers and give them the satchel, but theyre no longer interested in the tiara.
While she waits by the boat, Rapunzel is shocked to see the Brothers approach. They tell her
that Flynn betrayed her trust. Horrified, Rapunzel tries to run but her long hair gets caught
on a tree log. Then, Mother Gothel appears and renders both of them unconscious. In tears
and promising to never disobey her again, Rapunzel leaves with her back to the tower.
Back within the tower, Mother Gothel comforts Rapunzel and tells her,Lets put this whole
experience behind us okay!. As she walks up to her room, she notices a recurring theme all
around her is the same sun emblem that she saw within the kingdom and the lantern she
pushed skyward. She remembers the baby with golden hair held by her parents and
suddenly realizes that she is the missing princess! She confronts Gothel who admits the
truth but maintains that everything she did was for Rapunzels protection. When Rapunzel
asked, Whats to become of Flynn? and Gothel tells her that he is to be excecuted.
Flynn struggles to escape. Then, Maximus arrives with few of the thugs and bandits for the
Snuggly Duckling and they help Flynn to break out so he can save Rapunzel. Beneath the
tower, he call out Rapunzel, Rapunzel and her hair is let down. When he reaches the top,
however he finds Rapunzel bound and gagged in a chair. Before she can warn him, Gothel
emerges him from the shadows and stabs Flynn in the side with her dagger. Gothel then
tells Rapunzel I will take you far away where nobody will ever find you. Struggling against
her gag, Rapunzel promises that she will go with Gothel willingly if she is allowed to heal
Flynn. Gothel agrees and Rapunzel goes to the dying Flynn. Before she can begin singing, he
pulls her close and cuts her hair. With the enchantment broken, Rapunzels hair turn into
normal brown and Gothel staggers back as her skin begins to wrinkle. Horrified by her
reflection she trips over and falls out of the window. By the time her cloak hits the ground,
shes rapidly aged into a pile of ashes.
With his dying breath, Flynn tells Rapunzel that she was his new dream and Rapunzel tells
him the same. Crying over him, Rapunzel recites her song one last time. Alone tears fell
from her eyes into Flynns and the last bit of magic that remained in her revives him. Flynn is
now welcomed into the Royal Family. He and Rapunzel soon get married and live happily
ever after.
