Flushing of engine pipe system
Flushing of external piping system, until visible dirt has been removed
The standard full flow 50 micron filter basket should either be exhanged with a
10-25 microne filter basket, or additional 10-25 micron filter material should be
inserted inside the filter basket
Flushing of both external and internal piping system, but not the bearings.

Checkbag filter in the blind-end of the lubrication oil system
Portable vibrator or hammer should be used on the outside of lube oil pipes
during flushing (however be aware of natural frequency of the pipe systemand
the size of vibrators used may cause excessive stresses in the pipes and
welds.
Visual check of system pipe blind-ends by removing blank flanges.
Flushing duration normally 24-48 hours.

Checkbag: Is used for checking the system for content of visible, unwanted particles.

Particle counting: MAN B&W Diesel A/S recommend that in parallel to using the
checkbag, that cleanliness of the lube oil is checked by particle counting, in order to find
particle concentration, size and type of impurities.

When using particle counting, flushing should not be accepted as being complete until the
cleanliness is found to be within the range of the specified.

MAN B&W Diesel A/S specify ISO 4406 level ? 19/15

If test equipment for verification by particle counting is not directly available, we
recommend that the nearest test institute or a company working with hydraulic systems to
be contacted for assistance.

It is highly recommended that the flushing oil flow should reach a minimum of Reynold Number equal to 3000 in order to have
sufficient turbulence in the pipes.

Normally an flushing oil temperature equal to 60-65 C would be sufficient also in terms to ensure that all inside rust protection
of pipes and engine parts is removed.
