Pack in advance. Waiting until the last minute increases the chance that you will
forget something
Don't over-pack. Most people tend to take far more items than are necessary.
If possible pack one or two change of clothing in your carry-on bag should your
checked baggage be delayed or lost
If traveling with traveling with two bags... split your luggage in such a way, that in
case, one of your pieces of baggage is lost, you could make do with the other
Pack clothing that requires little care (Wrinkle free, cotton-knit etc.)
Bring mini-bottles or sample sizes of toiletries to conserve weight and space
Wrap toiletries and breakable items in Ziploc bags or use leak-proof plastic
containers
Pack heavy items such as shoes at the bottom of your case. Try to limit yourself to no
more than two pair of shoes. Put you shoes in bags to prevent soiling to other items. Pack
small items such as socks inside the shoes
Pack a collapsible bag in your case to carry purchased items or souvenirs
Bring a copy of your eyeglass or contact lens prescription in the event you need to
obtain a replacement
Pack small breakable items between your soft clothing and away for the outside of
the case
If you are traveling between multiple points pack your next change of clothing on the
top of your suitcase so you don't have to dig through the entire case
Stay safe while traveling...
Security Tips
Always use common sense when traveling. Listen to your instincts.
Never leave your bags or belongings unattended. A few moments is all a thief needs.
Keep your suitcases locked except when checking your baggage on the airlines. (New
regulations recommend you do not lock your bags as they may be screened by security)
Always keep all valuables with you at all times (Cash, passport, travelers checks etc.)
Use a money belt hidden under your clothing to deter pick pockets
When making large purchases use a credit card. The credit card company can work
on your behalf should a problem arise later.
Don't put anything in checked baggage that you would truly hate to loose. (Valuables,
film, photos)
Be careful if you travel with a laptop computer. Keep an especially close eye upon it.
When going through security checkpoints at airports be sure to keep one eye upon
your bags. It's easy to get distracted at this time
Carry a copy of your itinerary in your luggage as well as identification. This
increases the likelihood that your bag will get back to you if it is lost.
Always carry a photocopy of your passport including any visa pages. This makes the
reissue process much easier.
Know the value of your money in foreign currencies. Double check when paying for
an item and receiving change.
Airline Carry-on Restrictions
Most airlines will only allow one carry-on bag in addition to one personal item.
* length +width +height =linear inches
Most bags within the 24 x 14 x 9 size restriction will be considered legal carry-on
size
Many airlines have sizing boxes at check-in or gates within which your bag must fit.
No knives or cutting instruments are allowed on carry-on baggage.
NOTE: International travel may have different baggage allowances and restrictions
depending on the destination. Check with the specific airline

Important Items to carry with you
Airline Tickets
Passports, Visas
4 Stamp size Photographs
Copies of birth certificates
Traveler's cheque record (do not keep all the cheques in the same place)
Copies of school and college records and exam certificates
International health certificates (in case you have any)
Credit cards
Address- Emergency contacts
You are advised to ascertain, closer to your date of travel, the maximum weight permitted
(specific to the country you are traveling to).
Use luggage tags on every piece, including carry-ons. A bright ribbon or sticker will
help you (and others) distinguish your bags from similar ones.
List down all the items you are carrying in your baggage and have a fair idea of their
approximate value. The airline's reimbursement limit, in case of loss of baggage, is stated
on the ticket. So, have your luggage additionally insured if there is something really
valuable.
Always carry valuable jewelry and medicines with you, not in your checked baggage.
Lost Baggage
In case your luggage has not arrived, contact the concerned Airlines counter and
lodge a complaint. Fill up the 'Unaccompanied Baggage' form, provide your contact
address and phone number. Collect a counterfoil of the same from the counter at the
airport.
Take the contact number of the airline for the purpose of following up on the status
of your baggage.
When the baggage is found, it would be delivered to the address mentioned in the
form
If baggage is not found within 3 or 4 days, another form will be sent to you. In this
form, give the details of the things kept in the lost bag including the approximate cost of
the things in dollars, date of buying etc.
In case the baggage is not found in three to five weeks, the airline will reimburse you for
the lost baggage in accordance with their policies.
