&acation Policy
Children enrolled on a full-time basis )ill be granted one @1A )ee$ at half price per summer.
!art-time students do not receive a vacation discount.

We require a t)o-)ee$ )ritten notice prior to the vacation )ee$ so )e can plan accordingly. >he
discounted )ee$ must be used all at once and cannot be divided among multiple )ee$s.

'ithdra(al
9 )ritten t)o-)ee$ notice from parents prior to )ithdra)al from the !rogram is required. >his notice
must be given to the *asis 'irector. 3ees are still applicable through the t)o )ee$ period. -f you fail to
submit a )ritten t)o-)ee$ notice you )ill be responsible for paying tuition for the t)o @2A )ee$s
follo)ing your childDs last day in the !rogram.

>he Executive 'irector reserves the right to )ithdra) any child )hich in the 'irectorDs sole Budgment
is disruptive to the !rogram. !rior to the decision of removal there )ill be open communication
bet)een the childDs parents teachers and *asis %eadership. 9n appeal of these decisions may be made
to the +oard of 'irectors. !lease see discipline policy for further details.

General )ualifications of All Staff
>he staff is responsible for developing and implementing the activities and services offered to the
children. (o staff shall have been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor related to abuse neglect or
exploitation of children or adults. 9ll staff shall be of good character and reputationG physically and
emotionally competent and capable of carrying out assigned responsibilitiesG )illing and able to accept
training and supervisionG able to communicate effectively both orally and in )riting as applicable to the
Bob responsibility.
9 staff member )ho is certified in 3irst 9id and C!R )ill be on the premises at all times. #taff )ill have
the ability to communicate )ith emergency personnel and understand instructions on a prescription
bottleG communicate effectively and appropriately )ith the age group to )hich the staff person is
assignedG communicate effectively )ith parentsG provide a stimulating and safe environment for the age
group to )hich the staff person is assignedG use materials activities and experiences to encourage
childrenDs gro)th and development.

*ealth Re+uirements for Staff
>he *asis #taff are certified annually by a practicing physician or nurse practitioner to be free of any
disability that )ould prevent them from caring for children enrolled in the !rogram.

,nrollment Policy
>he !reschool !rogram )ill accept infants six @2A )ee$s of age to children five @.A years of age.
>he 9fter #chool !rogram )ill accept children )ho are starting &indergarten through 2th grade.
>he #ummer #chool-9ge !rogram accepts children age six @2A through Rising 2th ,rade.
-f your &indergartner has not had their 2th birthday by the start of the summer program they are eligible
for our summer Rising & Class.
We follo) the local public school systemDs enrollment policy so your child )ill be placed in a class
according to their age as of #eptember 40th.
We do not discriminate on the basis of race color or national or ethnic origin in the administration of
educational policies or enrollment.

>he 3ull-'ay !reschool !rogram operates from 2F40 am to 2F00 pm "onday through 3riday. !arents
must provide lunches )ith a drin$ daily. !lease see food policy.

>he 9fter #chool !rogram operates from 4F00 pm to 2F00 pm - "onday through 3riday - beginning the
first day of City and8or County #chools and ending the 3riday after the last day of City and8or County
#chools. 9ll children registered in afterschool program )ill be expected to attend program for full-day
care on teacher )or$days holidays )e are open sno) days spring brea$ and summer program. -n
order for *asis to sustain a viable after school program the other eliminates are necessary.

>he #ummer #chool-9ge !rogram )ill operate from 2F40 am to 2F00 pm - "onday through 3riday -
beginning the first "onday follo)ing the last day of school from City and County #chools and ending
the day before school begins in 9ugust. 9 child can only be registered in our #ummer !rogram if they
are a part of our afterschool program.

*asis provides an afternoon snac$ on after school days and morning and afternoon snac$s on full-days.
*n full days your child )ill need to pac$ a lunch )ith a drin$.

#lease consult the holiday schedule provided for you and ma*e note of the specific dates that the
#rogram +ill 'e closed(

Inclement 'eather and School Cancellations
Weather is unpredictable. We understand that each storm sno) fall flood icy roads are different and
)e also understand that all of our decisions are not going to benefit everyone. *ur goal is to ma$e the
safest and best decision possible for *asis families and for our staff. >o that end it may become
necessary to open on a delay or close as a result of inclement )eather. !lease plan for this possibility
accordingly. >he decision to close or delay )ill be made by the *asis Executive 'irector.

We )ill be open during inclement )eather.
'uring those )eather conditions )e may open later or close early.
9l)ays chec$ the door at drop-off or pic$-up for time changes.

*asis )ill provide a morning and afternoon snac$ for all children on solid foods. !arents are required to
pac$ their childDs lunch and drin$. !lease send lunches that do not require more than 40 seconds of
heating. !lease do not send multiple containers that require heating @)e recommend sectional platesA or
micro)ave meals that require multiple step heating. 3or safety please do not send glass containers. -f
)e have to provide a lunch for your child there )ill be a ?4.00 fee. -f your child has a food allergy
please inform your childDs teacher and provide a list of foods that )ould be unsafe for your child. !lease
also provide extra snac$s and treats in case your child is allergic to the provided snac$.

Naptime
(ursery department naps are as directed by the infants and8or toddlers. (o child )ill be made to go to
sleepG infants can be up playing )hile the other children are asleep. >hat teacher must be in sight sound
and reach of his or her entire class.
9t 1. months the child )ill be placed on a nap cot at naptime along )ith the rest of his or her class.
ChildrenDs naptime length )ill vary according to the child. Children )ill nap and teachers )ill not
interrupt but the class )ill continue )ith activity.

!re-#chool children )ill nap from 1-4 daily. Children )ill not be made to sleepG ho)ever they must be
quiet on their nap mat. 9fter all other children are asleep and your child is not yet tired )e )ill offer
him or her boo$ or puJJle to play )ith quietly.
Outdoor Play
>he outside area )ill be inspected before each class goes on the playground to ensure safety for the
children. We )ill have a separate area for toddlers and pre-school children for safety reasons. 'aily
)e )ill remove all over-siJe stic$s and roc$s and any haJards in the area. 9ll plants that could pose a
health haJard )ill be removed also.
We )ill create a boundary @fenceA to ensure that the children are safe. We )ill have all safe age
appropriate equipment on the playground.
-f temperatures during the )inter are bet)een 42 and /0 degrees or colder )e )ill play outside
for ten to 1. mins then return inside. -f )e have had sno) and )e declared a sno) day )e )ill
as$ the parents to bring in the correct clothing for us to go out and play in the sno)y conditions.
-f temperatures during the summer months are bet)een 60 and 50 degrees )e )ill go out and
stay for 1. to 20 minutes at a time. -f it is hotter )e )ill not go outside. -f )e have a )ater day

sprin$lers. *ur playground )ill have more than one surface so children are able to play and use
their imaginations.

9s a Center )e )ant to meet the needs of our community understanding that all children are different
and do not fit in one mold or shape. !arents as you are filling out the application on your child@renA
please be honest about your childDs behavior and needs so )e can place them in a class that is
appropriate for them. We )ant them to be successfulK
Personal Belongings
!lease clearly mar$ your childDs personal possessions including their coats.
Clothing
9ll children )ill be required to $eep a change of clothes at *asis. >hese should be seasonal and include
underpants and soc$s. *asis maintains a small tote of extra clothing. -f it becomes necessary to clothe
your child in *asis spare clothing please return them as soon as possible so they )ill be available again
)hen needed.

9ppropriate dress for !reschool is comfortable clothing and tennis shoes. -t is important for your child
to be comfortable as he or she )ill be active in both indoor and outdoor play. Shoes should be
appropriate for running and playground activities @no sandals flip-flops or dress shoes )hich can cause
accidentsA.

9lso dress your child in clothes that are appropriate for )or$ing )ith paint and other messy materials.
We provide some limited protection such as smoc$s to cover clothing for these activities but
sometimes the coverage does not provide complete protection. !lease dress your child in clothing that is
)ashable so that their fun and creative activities are not hindered.

Arri%al and Departure
Lpon entering the center )e as$ parents to sign their children in on the computer daily.
3or curriculum programming and staffing all children must be in class by 5F00am every day. -f
your child has an appointment you must inform the 'irector or >eacher so )e are a)are of )ho
)ill be late. -f a child comes to school after 5F00am and no phone call )as made to the Center
by the parent that child )ill not be permitted to attend that day.
9ll children )ill be released to Authori.ed Adults Only. 9 list of these adults )ill be given in
your application. Changes can be made at any time by the !arent and8or ,uardian *(%E.
!arents please note that if your child is a part of our after school program and you pic$ your
child up from school and fail to call us you )ill have an Extra #tress 3ee on your next bill of
?10.00. We as a Center have a process )e )ill then have to go through thin$ing )e are missing
a child. >his ta$es concentrated time and time to cover all our bases. Eou can save us the time
by phoning into the Center to let us $no).
$ate Pic!2up Procedure
!lease be responsible to pic$ up your child on time. -f any child is not pic$ed up by 2F0. pm the
leader )ill call and chec$ on the )hereabouts of the person pic$ing up the child. -f
parents8guardians cannot be reached )e )ill call emergency contact persons to pic$ up the child.
-n addition a late pic! up fee of 678 per 78 minute increment may be assessed @exF 1-10
minutes late is a ?10 charge %ate pic$-up feeF *asis reserves the right to charge ?10 per first 10
minute increments past 2F00 pm then ..00 per min after that. (See Arri%al and Departure

Parent Conferences
!arent conferences )ill be scheduled as the lead teacher and8or parents deem necessary.
!lease call the 'irector to request or coordinate a conference.

Communication
*pen communication is essential to the operation of the !rogram. >he Executive 'irector and +oard of
'irectors encourage close contact bet)een parents and staff members. !arent participation and sharing
of ideas are considered a valuable asset to the !rogram. #hould the need arise the +oard of 'irectors is
accessible to staff and parents.

Child A/use
9ll childcare professionals are required by la) to report any suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to
#ocial #ervices.

Illness
-f your child becomes ill or inBured )hile at the !rogram every attempt )ill be made to contact the
parent8guardian. -f necessary the child )ill be ta$en to Roc$ingham "emorial <ospital for treatment.
9 completed 9uthoriJation for Emergency "edical Care 3orm is required at registration. >he
parent8guardian )ill be responsible for medical expenses.

9 child needs to be excluded from attending the !rogram ifF
<e8she has a temperature of 100./ degrees or above.
<e8she has a communicable disease @this includes liceA.

!arents )ill be notified immediately if a child arrives or presents during the day )ith any of the above
symptoms. !arents need to ma$e arrangements to pic$ up the sic$ child as soon as possible. !lease
notify the staff if your child is sic$ or has a communicable disease so )e can inform other parents that
the illness has been diagnosed in their childDs class.

M*asis has a no-nit policy for lice. When your child returns to school follo)ing treatment please have
your childDs head chec$ed by *asis %eadership prior to ta$ing them to their classroom and )ait for the
Hall clearI before leaving the !reschool. *asis reserves the right to chec$ a childDs head for nits for up
to t)o )ee$s or longer in case re-infestation occurs.

Parents will be notified immediately if a child arrives or presents during the day with any of the above
symptoms. Parents need to make arrangements to pick up the sick child as soon as possible. The
above policy is a framework to make the best decisions possible regarding illness; no policy can
cover every situation. The final decision about whether a child is excluded from the Program will be
made by the irector. !ur policy is designed to keep all of the children in our Program as healthy as
possible.
Safety
*asis is covered by a public liability insurance policy.
A/sences
-f your child )ill be absent from the !rogram please notify your childDs teacher or a member of the
%eadership >eam.

Child Passenger $a( Compliance
-n compliance )ith =irginia %a) all children under age eight @6A must be properly restrained in a child
safety seat or booster seat. *n the occasions of day trips and8or field trips parents must provide proper
safety seats for all children under age eight @6A enrolled in *asis.

School Bus Drop Off
>ransportation to and from all schools is currently provided by *asis.
4edication Policy
*asis is a "9> Certified !rogram for medication administration. >his certification places certain
requirements on the !rogram for medication administration. >his code is instituted by the =irginia #tate
+oard of (ursing and the #tate +oard of #ocial #ervices. Lnder this code only qualified staff are
permitted to give both over-the-counter and prescription medications.
#he follo(ing is a +uic! reference of re+uirements that must /e met for our staff to administer
medication
"edication and 9uthoriJation 3orms must be given to a "9> certified employee.
9 specific form is required for all medications. 3orms are available in the office.
9 ne)8separate medication form is required for every medication.
9ll administration tools @exF dosing spoonsA must be provided by the parent.
*ver-the-counter medication must be in its original container and be labeled )ith the childDs first
and last names. 9ll pac$aging must be included.
!rescription medication must be in the original child resistant container )ith the original
pharmacy label stating all required dosing information.
9 pac$age insert or copy of pharmacy printout must accompany the medication.
9 parent can authoriJe medication administration for over-the-counter and prescription drugs for
a 10 day period @short-termA excluding (ebuliJers Epi!ens and over-the-counter medications
that do not give specific dosing instructions @exF >ylenol for children under 2 years of ageA.
%ong-term "edication @routine and up to 2 monthsA requires a physicianDs )ritten instruction on
the authoriJation form. 3orms must be updated every 2 months.
!arentDs instructions on the authoriJation form must be consistent )ith the directions on the

)uiet Corner : baby mirrors on the floor so infants can see themselves. -n this area there )ill
also be laminated pictures on the )alls and floor of animals obBects expressions.
Bouncy Seats- for children to learn balance and fine motor s$ills to gro) reaching for toys on
top of equipment.
S(ings : infants )ill love the free motions of the s)ings helping them to learn some self-
soothing s$ills.

#ransportation
Each summer )e charge a ?20.00 transportation fee per child )hich helps to cover costs of insurance
gas and $eeping the vehicle in good repair. Children )ill be required to be properly restrained in car
seats )hen riding in the van based on age and )eight of the child. When riding on the centerDs buses or
vans the children )ill be buc$led in at all times. -n each vehicle used the staff )ill carry the names of
the children going and their emergency contact forms along )ith a flashlight blan$et and 3irst 9id &it.
Pool Safety
3acility employees and volunteering parents )ill provide transportation to and from the pool. We )ill
al)ays have our staff in the pool at all times. Children )ishing to s)im in the deep end of the pool must
pass the lifeguardDs test before entering.
