CIPUK AND THE IDENTITY OF SASAK WOMEN

The culture is very important in our country, our life, and it important in sasak
indigeous too. There are so many theory about culture for examples; Based on A.L Kroeber
and Kluchohn in culture, A Ccritical Review of Concepts and Definition (1952) said culture
as a big concept which is more clear if with detail specified into shape of the culture, and
content of the culture. Furthermore when we are look around from shape of the culture are
divided into three shape of cculture; first is shape as a complex idea, concept, and human
thinking it called culture system. Second is shape as a complex activity it called cocial system
Third is shape as noun it called physical culture. Meanwhile (Soerjanto Poesporwardojo,
1989; 218-219) said the culture is all over process and growing result of human from
generation to generation for the human life is better. On the other side Ashley Montage said
culture is a way of life which radiate a sure identity in a country.
The identity is one of the basic human needed, which the identity determine the social
status and character of somebody, include the charactheristic of somebody that physic or
social culture ( Dr. Hans J. Daeng ). So the identity is very important too, not only for the
country but also for personal people and the indigeos like Cipuk as the identity of sasak
women.
The cipuk is a veil specially of sasak indigeous, which is has the shape of sided.
Furthermore Cipuk has unique meaning which is must be maintain, socialization, and
preserve by us. Cipuk also as the best a social control, where that can make the people could
identify, and knows the status of sasak women like she is single, widow, or was marriage,
only to see how the way the sasak women wear the veil without ask them again. For
examples, the first sign is when the tip of the veil stuck out in front of the ceast its mean the
women is singgle. The second sign is when one of the tip of the veil on the shoulder it mean
the women is widow. And the last sign is when all of the tip of the veil on the shoulder it
mean the women is was marriage.
As a result there are so many reason about keharusan cipuk dijaga dari pengikisan
budaya oleh kecenderungan modrnisation, globalization, kapitalism, and westernitation. Such
as; teologist, sociologist, and theoriticst. Those reason has relation each other which is cannot
separated it. Without a doubt cipuk is a creativity of culture based on the highest of religion
relize.
