Type Tool
Character Direction
This option is helping you to force a
character direction it can be helpful
when you are trying to type “.1” in
a paragraph with a Right to Left
alignment without typing the dot “.”
before the one “1”.

Ligatures
This option allows you to choose
whether to apply ligatures or not. This option only affects
selected text in Arabic, Roman (for ligatures such as oe æ fi
fl) and Hebrew for some consonant- vowels combinations,
providing more precise positionning of the diacritics.

This option allows you to choose whether to display digits

as Hindi numerals or Arabic numerals
When “Hindi Numbers” is checked the sequence 123 will display ١٢٣ otherwise, it
will display 123.

Kashidas
When the paragraph is full justified, a kashida is inserted between characters that
have the feature on, and not inserted between characters that have the feature off.
When applying positive Kerning between two Arabic characters that connect, the
additional space is filled with kashida

Diacritics
Manually, the horizontal position of a diacritic is controlled by applying kerning
while the vertical position is controlled by applying baseline shift.
Automatic adjustment of Arabic diacritics, is controlled by the “Diacritics positionning”
options.

Paragraph direction and paragraph palette.

Paragraph direction is governed by either the two arrows in the type tool bar or by
the menu of the paragraph pallette.

This option controls the main writing direction of the paragraph.

When this option is “Right to Left” the line direction of the text is right to left,
otherwise, the line direction is left to right (Roman).
(Rq: It is important to differentiate the line direction from the alignment. The line
direction controls the order, inside the line, of multidirectional text. The alignment
7.0 ME

controls the placement of the whole line in reference to the insertion point on the
image. Changing the line direction doesn’t affect alignment and vice-versa).
If your text is mainly Arabic or Hebrew, check the “Right to Left” option, otherwise,
make sure to check the “Left to Right” option.
To see how the “Right to Left” option affects the appearence of a multidirectional
text read through the next examples.
Let’s consider this sentence:
‫ ﺗﻌﻨﻲ ﺳﻼم‬peace‫ﻛﻠﻤﺔﭨ‬
If the line direction is right to left then the text will appear like this:
‫ ﺗﻌﻨﻲ ﺳﻼم‬peace‫ﻛﻠﻤﺔﭨ‬
If the line direction is left to right the the text will appear like this:
‫ﻛﻠﻤﺔ‬peace‫ﺗﻌﻨﻲ ﺳﻼم‬
As you can see the order of words is changed, that’s why you should check the right
to left line option when most of the text is from right to left.

Let’s consider another translation of the same sentence:

The word ‫ ﺳﻼم‬means peace.
If the line direction is left to right then the text will appear like this:
The word ‫ ﺳﻼم‬means peace.
If the line direction is right to left then the text will appear like this:
The word ‫ ﺳﻼم‬means peace.
As you can see the order of words is changed, that’s why you should not check the
right to left line option when most of the text is from left to right.

the font.

• Enhanced font support

Photoshop ME enhanced font support is provided by a text file located under
“Photoshop ME/ME Support”. This file "intlFontDB.txt" is used to indicate Fonts that
need special support by Photoshop CE as well as customizing complementary fonts.
When encountering problems with fonts, you may need to add an entry for this
specific font to this file. If after doing this modification and having restarted your
Photoshop CE you still encounter trouble, please contact our technical support.
(Support@winsoft.fr)
Most likely, the reason why the font is not working is:
- The Font does not follow platform rules for script or charset attribute
- The Font is very old and does not have valid Unicode information, so it requires
special support
- A particular Font is to be used when a glyph is missing in the Font currently used.

For detailed information in regards of adding entries in "IntlFontDB.txt" file please

refer to the file itself.
