INTEGRATED BUILDING AND DESIGN

In this subject of integrated building design, we were given a
Plan of two storey residential building. Our first assignment
was To rearrange the spatial plan which is most suitable
according to human requirement.Plan was of nearly 1 marla,
i.e !"# $ %"#.
I made three changes in spatial planning.
1) Decrease the area of drawing room
As we know, we spend our most time in living room and bed room.
Drawing rooms are only used when guests visit, which is not very
often. So I decreased the area of drawing room, making no spare
spaces, so that there will be room for pato against the dead wall.
2) Increase length of patio and decrease width to make living area larger
Living area requires as much space as we spend our most of time there.
I decreased the width of patio from !" to #" nd increased its length
upto #", so there will be large space inside and better view of
landscaping from outside.

3) I have provided patio with the dead wall
$o have natural light and cross ventilation in dining room and kitchen I provided a
patio of %"&!". $his patio also opens against living room providing natural light
and ventilation. At the first storey there is a bathroom attached to bed room. $here
was no natural light and ventilation before, but this patio provides both.

Second assignment was to make a grid structure and plan the spaces accordingly.we were allowed to make changes in plan upto
'!( means space were to be integrated with the grid planning.

So I made a grid plan having )* & )*, )* & '* and corner columns as shown below.
+orner columns were provided to avoid differential damge. )*&'* columns were
provided in such a way that longer span becomes shorter to avoid more moment.
I provided cross beams at couple of places where there was no column for the beams

A cavity wall is two wythes of masonry, separated by a cavity of varying dimension.
/asonry wall can be of concrete blocks, bricks and structural clay tile.
It is thermally insulated.
Sound proof
/oisture resistant
0e designed the same plan with cavity walls, its section and detailed plan is shown in
figures.

2) .arth compressed blocks
.arth compressed blocks are available in different si-es,
we use %*1)*1'*. $hey are load bearing we used them in
combination with 5ack arch roofing. $hey advantages is that they
are highly thermal insulated and are available easily.
2) 2einforced 6rick concrete slab3
we designed reinforced brick concrete slab using +3S34 ratio 3'3#.its section is shown3 bricks with spacing .7* to '* are used in which steel
is placed. $his is economical type of slab. It has adequate stregth to bear load of a residential building.
3) 8ack arch roofing3
It reveals from archival drawings and e1isting old buildings that the ma5or components of 8ack Arch roofing were 6ricks for construction of
Segmental Arch, Steel 8oists to support arches, $ie 2ods at ends arches to keep the arch in its original position and to address the problems of
tensile stresses, 0all 9lates and :uts to make the connection of $ie 2ods from its both ends.
