1 Introduction This product description is intended to provide information necessary to start-up and use the GPD 315/V7 Profibus-DP II option board. This option assembly plugs into the CN2 port on the drive control board. A dual port RAM link is used between the drive and the Profibus option assembly. The CM067 option assembly supports 12 bytes of data input and 12 bytes of data output.
2 Board Installation and set-up
2.1 Option board overview:
The above Profibus II interface card (Shown Above) is assembled into a Profibus II Option kit assembly (CM067) which fits over the drive, with the front panel and digital operator removed. The front panel and digital operator of the drive is then reassembled into the Communications Option Kit Assembly. 5 2.4 Termination Resistors:
The Profibus II Option Assembly is equipped with an internal termination resistor that is activated via a DIP switch, located next to the BUS connector on the boards short side. The bus cable must be terminated, in two and only two locations in the network segment, at both furthest ends of the cable. If the option board is connected as the last unit on the bus, the termination switch must be in ON position, unless other termination methods are used.
2.5 Address configuration:
The board is equipped with two decimal (0-9) rotary switches for address set-up. The switches are located next to the termination switch on the board short side. The address is calculated in the following way: Address = (Switch 1 x 10) + (Switch 2 x 1) 2.6 PE (Protected Earth) Installation:
Profibus-DP II requires a PE (Protected Earth) connection for proper shield installation. The PE is applied via a green cable that is soldered on the board. The cable must be connected to PE by the user. The SHIELD is connected to pin 5 in the BUS connector.
2.7 Profibus II Option Kit LED Indicators:
The Profibus II Option Kit is equipped with four indication LEDs for module and Profibus- DP status indication. The LEDs are located on the board according to the figures below.
The above figure shows the LED indicators as they are located directly on the Profibus II option card, and the below shows the LED indicators as they are seen through the Profibus II Option Kit Assembly.

3 Profibus-DP II
3.1 Profibus-DP II data and I/O map:
The Profibus DP II Communication between a Master (PLC or PC) and the GPD 315 (Slave) uses a 12 byte, fixed length message to and from the drive. The Output Data refers to a message sent from the Master to the drive. The Input Data refers to the response from the drive back to the Master. The following tables indicate the format and structure of the 12 byte messages. ( See Appendix A for further details).
OUTPUT DATA (PLC to GPD 315) Byte Function 0 Operation Command 1 2 Speed Command 3 4 Modbus Function Code (Command) 5 Modbus Starting Address (Upper) 6 Modbus Starting Address (Lower) 7 Modbus Data Length (2) 8 Modbus Data 1 9 10 Spare 11 Handshake Register
INPUT DATA (GPD 315 to PLC) Byte Function 0 Drive Status 1 2 Speed Feedback 3 4 Modbus Function Code (Response) 5 Modbus Starting Address (Upper) 6 Modbus Starting Address (Lower) 7 Modbus Data Length (2) 8 Modbus Data 1 9 10 Spare 11 Handshake Register
The option board supports 12 bytes of input data and 12 bytes of output data. The data is divided into two separate data areas. The first 4 bytes of both the Output and the Input messages are not changeable. This is most frequently used data in the drive, therefore, it is a fixed portion of the messaging. All of the data in the drive is accessible via the Modbus portion of the message block. This allows reading or writing all available registers in the drive. Fast I/O data area - Byte 0 - 4. Parameters in this area is directly transferred to/from the inverter. MODBUS message area - Byte 5 - 11. This area is used to transfer MODBUS messages to the drive. All drive parameters and data can be accessed with this area. Since the data in this area is processed by the drive before the response is generated, a handshaking procedure is required. 3.2 Fast I/O Data:
This area is used to transfer parameters directly to the inverter dual port ram interface which typically controls the run-time operation of the drive.
8 3.3 MODBUS Message Area:
This area is used to transfer MODBUS messages to the inverter. The Profibus-DP master places the MODBUS command in the output area. The response generated by the inverter is placed in the input area. The messages can contain one word of data. Since this is a slower procedure than the Fast I/O data exchange, a handshaking protocol is required. The protocol indicates when new commands and responses are available in the input and output area.
3.3.1 MODBUS message structure In communicating to the drive via the Modbus component of the Profibus message, there are two message functions available. The Profibus message specifies the function to be executed by the drive according to the function code. The following table shows the types of function codes available.
The message format varies depending upon the function of the message. For each function, there is a command message from the master and a response message initiated from the slave. The following sections review the format of the command message and the response message for each function. MESSAGE - Modbus Component
Byte Function Detail 4 Modbus Function Code See Note Below
5 Starting Register (Upper byte) Starting register in the GPD 315 to be written or read. 6 Starting Register (Lower byte) See Appendix A for register numbers and functions 7 Modbus Data Length Number of registers to be read or written - each drive register requires 2 bytes, One register maximum for any one message. Valid input 2. 8 Modbus Data 1 For a write - this byte contains the upper byte of the 1 st drive register data as specified in bytes 5 and 6 above. 9 Modbus Data 1 Lower byte of 1 st drive register being written 10 Not Used 11 Handshake Register
If Function Code 3h (Multiple Register Read) is used in the Profibus Output Message byte 4, the format is the same and the requested data will be entered into the corresponding Modbus component of the Profibus Input Message.
9 3.3.2 MODBUS Message Byte 4:
Byte 16 performs differing functions depending if the message is a COMMAND (Write) or a RESPONSE (Read): COMMAND - 3h : Read - 10h : Write RESPONSE - 0h : Waiting for response from drive - 3h : Response for read operation - 10h : Response for write operation - 83h : Read Command Error See 3.3.3 - 90h : Write Command Error See 3.3.3
3.3.3 MODBUS Message Errors:
If a Read Command Error (83h) or a Write Command Error (90h) is returned in byte 4: the Profibus interface will set the Most Significant Bit in Byte 5 to 1, Byte 7 will be set to 2, and Byte 9 will indicate a specific error code as follows
01h Function Error Invalid MODBUS function code 02h Address Fault Parameter starting address greater than 600h 03h Amount of Data Fault Read or Write more than 4 words 21h Data Content Fault Parameter exceeds upper or lower limits 22h Write Fault Parameter change during running or undervoltage 23h Write Fault Write attempted while undervoltage 24h Write Fault Write during parameter calculation 3.3.4 Handshaking register:
The handshaking protocol is used synchronises the MODBUS data exchange between the Profibus-DP master and the CM067 option board. The handshaking protocol is simple to use and implement in a PLC program. One register (byte 11) in the input and output area is dedicated to this protocol. HANDSHAKE OUTPUT REGISTER PDP Master GPD 315 Profibus option board b7 b1
HS - - - - - - INIT
Bit Name Function 7 HS Handshaking bit. Used to synchronise the data exchange. Toggled when a new command is transmitted. NOTE. This bit must be cleared after power-up or re- initialization by the PLC program. 6 - 1 - Not used. 0 INIT Used for re-initialization of the handshaking protocol.
Bit Name Function 7 HS Handshaking bit. Used to synchronise the data exchange. Toggled when a new response is transmitted 6 - 5 STATUS * Status of data exchange between option board and inverter. 00H: Idle 01H: Sending MODBUS command to inverter 10H: Waiting for MODBUS response 11H: Response received 4 - 1 WD * Counter incremented approximately each 64 ms. 0 - Not used
* The STATUS and WD bits gives additional information about the option board. The user does not have to access or use these bytes in the PLC program to exchange data using MODBUS messages. 3.3.5 Example of Handshaking Protocol: After power-up or re-initialization the PLC program has to clear the HS bit (bit 7) in the handshaking register. Below is an example of how handshaking is done. The arrows indicate which part of the system, has the control of the protocol during each state of the data transfer. 12 4 Drive Set-up Parameters
4.1 Run/Stop and Frequency Selection:
The run/stop commands and frequency reference command can originate from serial communication, the digital operator, the external terminals, or the PROFIBUS option board. The origin of the run/stop command does not have to be the same as the origin for the frequency reference command. Parameter n004 (Reference Selection) allows you to set up the origin of the frequency reference and parameter n003 (Operation Method Selection) sets up the origin of the run/stop commands. Parameter n003 is Modbus register number 103h, and n004 is Modbus register number 104h. The chart shown below illustrates the possible frequency reference and run/stop selections.
Parameter n004 (104h) Setting Frequency Reference Selection
0 Digital Operator Pot 1 Digital Operator 2 Voltage Reference (0-10V) 3 Current Reference (4 to 20 mA) 4 Current Reference (0 to 20 mA) 5 Pulse Train Reference 6 Serial Communications ( Modbus) 7 Multi- Function Analog Input (0 to 10V) 8 Multi-Function Analog Input (4 to 20mA) 9 Option Card
The default setting of parameter n004 is 2.
Parameter n003 (103h) Setting Operation Method Selection (Run/Stop) 0 Digital Operator 1 External Terminals 2 Serial Communication (Modbus) 3 Option board
The default setting of parameter n003 is 1.
4.2 Parameter n152 - Frequency Reference Unit:
Parameter n152 selects the frequency resolution in the frequency reference and the output frequency monitor when received from the PLC.
The output frequency resolution of the digital operator is settable via n035, Frequency Reference Unit Selection. If the digital operator resolution is set to 0.1 Hz (n035=0), and the Modbus resolution is changed to 0.01 Hz in n152, the value in the hundredths digit of 0.01 Hz of the received frequency reference is rounded off when displayed on the digital operator.
Frequency Reference Unit Selection Parameter n152 Setting Frequency Reference Unit Selection 0 0.1 Hz 1 0.01 Hz 2 100% / 30,000 3 0.1% The default setting of parameter n152 is 0.

5 The ENTER Command The drive has two types of memory: Volatile and Non-Volatile. Data held in the Volatile memory will be lost when power is removed from the drive. Data held in Non-Volatile memory will be retained when power is removed from the drive. Different types of registers are stored in different areas of memory.
5.1 Data Types: 5.1.1 Command Data: (The first 4 bytes of the Output Message) The command registers (Output bytes 0 - 3) are stored in Volatile memory. When writing to a command register the new data becomes active immediately. In the case of a power loss all data stored in these registers will not be retained.
5.1.2 Status Data: (The first 4 bytes of the Input Message) The monitor registers (Input bytes 0 3) are also stored in Volatile memory. These registers cannot be written to (read only registers). Any data read from the monitor registers will not be retained during a power loss situation. Note - Modbus Registers 020h 03Dh are monitor (read) only registers. They are not affected by the ENTER command.
5.1.3 Parameter Data: (Modbus registers - bytes 4 - 9 of Input and Output Messages) The parameter registers (101h to 1D2h) are stored in Volatile memory until an ENTER command is applied. When writing new data to parameter registers, an ENTER command must be given for the new data to become stored in Non-Volatile memory. If an ENTER command is not used, and a power loss occurs the changed data will not be retained.
5.2 Using the ENTER Command: An ENTER command is executed by writing the value of 0 to Modbus register 0900h. This causes data to become active and saves the data to Non-Volatile memory. If a power loss occurs to the drive after the ENTER command has been issued and accepted, the data will be retained.
Some Parameter Data registers may be written to while the drive is running. These parameters are called run-operative parameters. For a list of these parameters refer to the Technical Manual TM4315.
All other Parameter Data registers may only be written to when the drive is stopped. These are called non-run operative parameters.
NOTE Use the ENTER command 0900h only when necessary! The life of the EEPROM (Non-Volatile memory) on the drive will support a finite number of operations. This means that the ENTER command, value 0 written to register 0900h, can only be used a maximum of a 100,000 times to store data in the EEPROM. After the specified number of operations, the EEPROM may fault (ERR) requiring the control board to be replaced.

How to Use Command Priority
Table B-1. Set up for Profibus Control
Table B-2. Set up for External Terminal Control
Table B-3. Set up for Digital Operator Control
36 Command Priority
The setting of parameter n004 determines the origin of operation commands. This was discussed in detail in the earlier section, Drive Setup Parameters. Some commands may be accessed by a source other than the one set up by parameter n003, as illustrated in the tables 1, 2, and 3 on the following pages.
How to use the Command Priority Tables:
First, determine the source of control you wish to use for your drive. Then n003 should be set up for the desired control you have chosen. (See the table below for parameter settings.) Select the appropriate Command Priority table on the following pages based upon what type of operation your drive is set up for.
Operation Commands N004 Run/Stop from: Use Table: On page #: 3 Option PCB (Profibus DP) 1 39 2 Serial Communication n/a - 1 External Terminals 2 40 0 Digital Operator 3 41
The left hand column of the Command Priority tables is the source of the command (serial communication, external terminals, and the digital operator). The middle column lists the functions or commands, and the right most column indicates whether the functions are Operational or not available from each source.
37 Table 1: Set up for Profibus Control The first table indicates the functions or commands that can be accessed from Profibus, external terminals, or the digital operator when the drives parameter n003 is set up for option pcb (n003 =3). The O indicates that the function is Operable from that source, and n/a indicates that the function is not available from that source.
