Transfer Dates and Deadlines

Application Filing Period
Spring 2009: September 1 – November 1, 2008
Fall 2009: January 15 – March 1, 2009
Admission Notification
If you apply for Spring 2009 entry, you will be notified of a decision by mid-December 2008. If
you apply for Fall 2009 entry, you will be notified of a decision by mid-April 2009.
Freshman Dates & Deadlines
Application Filing Period
September 1, 2008 – January 2, 2009
Applications must be postmarked by January 2. We need to receive all supporting documents
(transcripts, test scores, essays) by January 12.
Priority Filing Period
September 1 – November 1, 2008
To apply during the Priority Filing Period, a complete application and all supporting documents
must be postmarked by November 1, 2008. Completing the application during the Priority Filing
Period may give you an advantage when space is limited.
Applications will be designated as received during the Priority Filing Period once the entire
application file has been completed, including the application and required supplemental
materials.
We encourage you to complete the application early in the filing period. By completing the
application early, you have time to request and ensure the arrival of your transcripts to the
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
As an applicant, it is your responsibility to know the application requirements and to submit the
necessary materials. Also, it is important to note that if you apply or submit supporting materials
right at the application deadline, you are at risk to receive a later admission decision, especially if
you have international credentials since they require additional processing.
Admission Notification
There are two admissions notification dates: December 12, 2008 and February 13, 2009.
If you apply during the Priority Filing Period, you can view your admission status online on
December 12, 2008. Please note that the online decision is not final until you receive official
notification of our decision through postal mail. In some cases an applicantion decision will be
deferred, and a final admission decision will not be sent until the second notification date of
February 13. Should this be the case, there is no need for you to submit a program change
request, as you are still being reviewed for your requested program. If your application becomes
complete after November 1, or you are deferred on December 12, you will be notified of a
decision on February 13.
• Students applying to Art Foundation, Theatre Foundation, and
Dance: The final notification date will be March 16, 2009.
• Students applying to Music: Priority filing does not apply to music
applicants. You will be notified by March 16, 2009.

month, the money is borrowed. All international students who wish to apply for this loan should come to
ISSS. If all the forms have been completed before 3:30 P.M. the money should be available the same
day.

The Foreign Student Aid Fund

The Foreign Student Aid Fund is another small fund available to international students through the
donations of many individuals who hope to assist students with short terms money problems. Applicants
need to make an appointment with an ISSS advisor. The loans should be repaid within the semester the
funds are borrowed and if an application is approved, the money is available within a week.

UIUC Long Term Loan

The UIUC Long Term Loan is an option that may allow an international student borrow a fairly large sum -
$1000.00 - $6000.00 - under certain circumstances. The student MUST have a co-signer who is a U.S.
citizen or Permanent Resident who is not a student and has an annual income of more than $8000.00.
There is a 5% interest charged but the loan does not need to be repaid until the student leaves school.
However, once the student does leave school all of the money plus the interest must be repaid within the
next 12 months. If any payments are late the co-signer is held responsible for the money owed. If the
borrower can repay the money before leaving school there is no interest charged. To learn more about
this loan or to apply please make an appointment with an ISSS advisor. The application process involves
having the co-signer provide answers regarding their financial ability to repay the loan if the borrower
cannot. If an application is approved the money is usually available within 6 weeks.

Scholarships and Awards

Maria Gratton Award

Applications for the 2009-2010 award will be available in the future. Click on the following link for more
information about the Maria Pia Gratton award: http://www.skypen.com/piaaward/.

The Maria Pia Gratton International Award at the University of Illinois was established by the family and
friends of Maria Pia Gratton. Pia passed away on October 31, 1995, at the age of 47. When she came to
the United States, Pia had two small children, a degree in math, and little grasp of the English language.
Pia enrolled in classes to learn English and computer programming, and with determination she made a
home for her family, developed close friendships and began a career in her new country.

Those who knew Pia knew her to be a beautiful woman, a caring mother, a loving wife, a dependable co-
worker, a true friend, a conscientious student, a patient teacher, and a daring traveler. This award
continues Pia's memory with a living tribute to her life.

The award, which includes a tuition waiver and a stipend, is intended to enable a female graduate student
from outside the United States to have an academic and cultural experience at the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign

students in good standing with a "special athletic ability" in an amateur sport are eligible. Previous
winners represented a wide variety of sports from archery and tennis to swimming and wheelchair
basketball.

Immunization Requirement

Print

at Registration
Illinois state law requires all new students to provide proof of immunity to certain contagious
diseases (among them: diphtheria, measles, mumps, rubella, and tetanus) before enrollment. All
admitted students will receive an Immunization Information Form, which must be completed and
submitted upon arrival on campus. All international students will be screened for tuberculosis at
the time of enrollment in accordance with the Illinois Department of Public Health. All students
please note: if the required Immunization Information Form is not submitted, you will not be
eligible to register for future terms. Immunization Information Forms are also available online
from the McKinley Health Center.

Vaccination and Tuberculosis Requirements for Registration

Illinois requires all college students to be immunized against certain vaccine-

preventable diseases. These Include:
Measles - Two vaccinations required, on or after the first birthday. Must be live vaccine,
which was available after May 1, 1971

Mumps - One vaccine

Rubella - One vaccine

Tetanus/diphtheria US Citizens and Permanent Residents: booster within 10 years of the first day
of the start of classes.
International Students: documentation of at least three tetanus and diphtheria
vaccinations, the third given within 10 years of the first day of the start of
classes.

You can receive any or all of the required immunizations at McKinley for a charge.

It is important to meet these requirements. If you do not do this prior to or during the
first semester in which you are enrolled, your registration for the following semester
will be blocked; you will also be dropped from any classes for which you may already
have registered.

A health information form detailing how to provide documentation of immunization is

included in the university admission packets. You can also download our forms.

All new international students are screened for tuberculosis. Screening consists of
completion of a paper questionnaire and tuberculin skin test screening for students
who have lived in countries outside of the United States. Those with positive skin
tests receive a chest X-ray to screen for pulmonary tuberculosis. Students who have
a prior history of tuberculosis or who are receiving treatment for tuberculosis should
bring copies of all treatment records, including medical notes and laboratory reports.
There is no additional charge for tuberculosis screening.

If you need more information, visit the Immunization and Travel Clinic web page or
call 333-2702.
insurance is a means to partially cover the costs of health care whenever one needs medical
attention in the U.S. All students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign are required
to carry health insurance coverage. For more information about the University health insurance
plan, please see www.grad.uiuc.edu/current/health.htm.
Additionally, all students on J-1 status and their J-2 dependents are required by law to carry
adequate health insurance for the full duration of the J-1 program. Students and their families
may participate in the University insurance plan or in a private plan that provides at least
comparable coverage. International students can find additional information regarding health
insurance at the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS).
