Designed an activist digital media project West Virginia Water Crisis Blog, www.wvwatercrisis.com to tell
the stories of 300,000 West Virginians affected by chemical spill.
Filmed and published an emergency public health and safety video with environmental engineers who were
testing water in homes that was linked in a New York Times article and other renowned news media.
Creating a documentary film and academic research project on the social aspects of the water crisis.
Presented a film excerpt (10 min.) of my documentary-in-progress, West Virginia Water Crisis, at the 2014
West Virginia International Film Festival.
Provided footage from film for a LiveScience.com news story to be aired online and on PBS.

The Appalachian Project is a state and university-funded interdisciplinary initiative to understand factors influencing
Appalachian Ohio students choice to attend college.
Trained graduate and undergraduate students in research methods, interviewing, digital production, and
post-production for an ethnographic film.
Led project planning meetings and maintained member records and communications.
Developed undergraduate student training retreat and taught field research methods and videography.
Produced a 40-minute video ethnography for the Governors Office of Appalachia.
Organized, fundraised, and publicized a documentary film screening and directors discussion of Hollow.

2011-2014
Digital Media Composing (2 sections): Designed and taught a course focusing on digital activism with
image, audio, video, and web production. Students used digital still cameras, video recorders, and audio
recorders. In post-production, students learned Photoshop, Audacity, iMovie, and Dreamweaver,
Wordpress, and Twitter. Taught 64 class periods, graded 252 digital projects and 198 papers.
English Composition (4 sections): Designed and taught courses focusing on expository and research
writing. Taught 120 class periods, graded 620 papers, presentations, and portfolios.
2012-2013
Digital media software and hardware workshops: Planned and delivered 10 workshops for students.
Maintained and solved technology problems for 5 digital media classrooms, graduate laboratory, and digital
media recording equipment.

2011-2013
DMAC is an annual, nationally-renowned, intensive, two-week digital media workshop. Professors and graduate
students from academic institutions across the country attend to learn how to produce and teach digital media.
LiteracyStudies@OSU
2011-2012
LiteracyStudies@OSU is an interdisciplinary initiative directed by renowned literacy scholar, Dr. Harvey Graff.
Conducted research for in-progress book project and assisted in course planning for Dr. Graff.
Redesigned and coded Dr. Graffs professional website.
Organized 12 well-attended Interdisciplinary Graduate Seminars as GradSem co-chair, which included
developing monthly topics; selecting readings; finding and inviting presenters; promoting events; and
developing student, faculty, and staff interest and long-term relationships.
Co-founded and chaired the Literacy in Appalachia GradGroup; organized and led planning and research
meetings; developed student, faculty, and staff relationships at OSU and nationally; hosted guest lectures
and workshops; developed a writing group, organized social events, and maintained the group blog.
