Good morning, everyone. The regional report that we have been discussing for months was in my mind and its been settling only in the last hours. I come from a business profession, I am I studied Business Management; I work in this field. Reports are my thing but, in this case, I realize this isnt about what has been done, about the successes as measured by the world. / My perception now, looking at you all, and most of all, working on the making, the thinking and the path of this meeting, and seeing you interact with one another these days, / I realize that we need to report the money and quantities because its important, but its more important to see how weve moved in the evangelization. / First of all, tell you that on 2009 at the meeting in Kenya, Chile presented me as a person available to provide this service and I was elected, there were no other candidates. And I wasnt at this meeting, I couldnt travel due to economic issues, it was too expensive to do it. / I did have previous experience because at the first meeting of MLC in Chile, we had to work with other people doing a little bit of what Miguel Planas does now, coordinating all that, so I was in the back of the first meeting. And then in Bordeaux, Freddy and I participated as presidents of Chile that we were at that time. / But I assumed this responsibility because there was a strong impetus from Ezequiel who said, Chile has a lot of people, its old, it has trained people, how come there isnt one person who could provide this service? / And it just so happens that I, due to my professional job, had had to travel to different countries and I had the opportunity of knowing the reality of the Communities in other countries. / When I came to Peru, for work, I contacted Jaime, Miguel Planas, anyway, people I knew, and at night, after work, I met with them to informal things or to participate, they invited me to their community meetings. / When I was in Sao Paulo and I had to spend a weekend in the city, since I was alone, I took a bus and went to Bauru to see Mal, whom I met in Chile at the first meeting. Instead of going to the beach, I went to see a Marianist friend. / It is from that perspective that I tell you, thats how I started to think about it and my community encouraged me in spite of myself. This is a responsibility that I assumed; well aware that what drives me is the love towards Jesus Christ / which takes me to do things that I wouldve never thought of. / Im not going to talk much about the world perspective, at the end Ill tell you some ideas because Isabella already represented very well what I think about that. / Were going to talk about the regional perspective. / There, it is shown the whole Latin America with their flags, the MLCs are in 7 countries / I had the opportunity to be in 5 of them / not because of my regional responsibility, because of my regional responsibility only in 2, but because of what I was telling you about, plus my own country. I couldnt get to Mexico / nor I could participate in the meetings that take place in each of these countries to learn more about them, to provide a better collaboration / Our region is very diverse / there are countries that have a Family Council very united, that takes steps, that moves forward together and wants to work together; there are other countries were the Councils are weaker, depend on the people who get in or out of it, and very often on the attitudes of the people there. / We are also diverse when it comes to our spirit of lay commitment / the plan made in the Second Vatican Council, about the importance of the laity, whats in our own spirituality crosses with an opposite attitude which is of clericalism, typical of our formation and history that has been evolving, in some countries, a lot, in others theres a long way to walk yet. / I wont talk about the numbers of the Communities per country because its all in that wonderful notebook that Susan made and that you have / The most interesting thing we can tell about our work as a Family in the Latin American region / The year 2007, in Colombia, we had a family meeting, in which the responsible was still Ezequiel Reggiani, Freddy and I participated because we were the Chilean presidents / During those days, we analyzed different topics and we concluded in an ambitious plan with many, many good ideas that didnt come true / there was no organization, there was no monitoring, and all those good ideas cleared away; some countries made progress, a little, others, not so much / On that occasion we agreed to organize the next meeting in Equator on 2011 / Prior to that date, the female Marianist religious appointed a Latin American coordinator that turned out to be Patty Acua, also form Chile. / And the male religious had Felipe Melcher as president of CLAMAR from here, Peru. / All three of us began to organize us. We had meeting with Felipe Melcher, via Skype, we worked a lot, in terms of ideas, but finally we didnt carry out the meeting because CLAMAR had their meeting, CLAMAR of the male religious, had their meeting on a different date, they couldnt make 2 trips / We tried to modify this decision, we talked a lot, but to them this was no longer possible, and, in their opinion, if all those good intentions hadnt been accomplished, there was no point in getting together. / The laity communicated via email and agreed for us to get together anyway, in Equator, on the intended date, and carry out our meeting / the female Marianist religious did the same, they also had their intended meeting in Equator, on the same date. / The objective of the meeting, and there are some pictures that Isabella also showed in her presentation / was to go into detail about our Marianist reality / we wanted to build lines of action based on our reality, our charisma within the framework of the challenges of the continental mission. The representatives who arrived at this meeting covered approximately the 80% of the laity of the region. And sure, we could also come to some agreements. In this meeting, Equator was the perfect host, it let us pray, share, work, getting to establish new challenges which are there on the box, on the box that you have, of which we didnt monitor either. / This is very frustrating, having these meetings strengthen the people who participate in those, that person gets back to their country and tries to do the impetus, right? To make that wave that puts people in motion, in this case, there were 5 challenges we wanted to address. / In the meeting we managed to strengthen leadership, we create bond of brotherhood, and we also meet with the sisters on a working day, also seeing how to collaborate between the 2 branches. / One of the agreements was to see when will we meet again, we keep insisting, the family has to get together, and the laity asked for the family meeting to be in Peru along with this meeting to make one trip and dont double the expenses / The female religious agreed immediately, then we talked with the male religious and they also agreed, so we had our last meeting last week. It was a very open meeting, very honest. It was organized by the people who were there; now the president of CLAMAR is Jos Mara, who followed the line of Felipe, which we were thinking about. We used this emblem for this meeting that is wonderful; you knew it, that logo of the Marianist Family, is a very beautiful logo because it wants to mean the union of the 4 branches without confusion but creating a synergy between them. / The topic of the meeting was precisely the integration and the synergy in the Marianist Family, we worked on the basis of a very good document, prepared here in Peru by Felipe, by Jaime Becerra; and we managed to pray, look at the reality, share, and celebrate to see how can we create that synergy / and the laity also looked at each other with honesty, we also looked at the expectations the female religious have of us, the expectations the male religious have of us, and we got to say, Let us not propose 5 things, lets propose us one but that is in the heart of what we need, and do that, and we proposed to work on the laical calling / the power to confirm, discover, and strengthen what is our own calling, / In that regard, my responsibility as coordinator or regional responsible, I feel it has contributed to create a progress in the unity of the Latin American Marianist Family, we are diverse as I was saying in the beginning but we are also very similar, so these meetings, and thats why we insist, right? We insist on getting together, these meetings help us all grow / Now, also as the Latin American responsible Ive always tried to support other activities created in the region in order to join forces, combine wills, like the youth meeting which was carried out at the same time as the World Youth Day in Brazil. / One of the personal frustrations that I encouraged and got no results is on the participations of the online training courses. / There are very good courses, theres an interesting offer that perhaps later Jack will tell us some details about. / And no matter how hard I try through email, through conversations to make the people participate, I havent made it, we havent made it together. And as the achievements and the relationship with the church, to me it has been very important being able to know how the church works and being able to participate at the Third Latin American Congress of Movements that was given by the CELAM. We were participating since the times of Ezequiel. Now, after the meeting in Aparecida, they invited the movements to a meeting and we had the opportunity to participate there. / It was a good representation, and the other was, the other achievement is that weve improved the contributions. There are people who contributed today, therefore the paper you received with information until Monday / the paper you received is already updated; there are 3 countries that have already been updated, updated, which is wonderful. To sum up because theyve already told me the times up I get back to the fact that assuming this responsibility I found myself in a group in which I only knew Domingo, in which we had a limitation or rather I have an important language limitation, I only speak Spanish. I also live very far away, I live in a country located on the south end of the world, and I have a very large family as you could see in the picture. And Ive found, without going into detail, that if the spirit blows we can work together. Examining these years, I can only inform you that we have to trust more in what moves from the heart, that the mind must be something that is at the service of whats born within your heart, to organize it, and that your hands and feet must move according to what your mind has already organized but that it mustnt be your mind the one that rules the rest. / I think that in our society, we can give a bigger testimony of the faith of the heart if we leave room for the silence to listen to our heart and from there we move to make big plans or carry out big acts / thats it. Thank you.

Some of you have already read them, not only the fragments and more importantly the exhortation / I dont even want to make you a summary but only encourage you to read it and also share the reason why we wanted to choose this document, the reason why we wanted to have the voice of Pope Francisco present in this meeting of the Lay Communities. This text of the exhortation is pretty extensive and complex, but we wanted to bring it here, above all, to live it, to put it in practice. / These days, we arent interested in these days, there are other days, theres time for everything. / This time of these days is not for comments and hermeneutics, its to let the heart warm up, quiver with what we hear from our founders, from our church. These are days not to be afraid of, and are days to decide to move, now. / We loved, I loved, that the Pope goes for the fundamental, he talks about God, / he talks about the Gospels, / he talks about a God that is essentially love, who loved us first, / he talks about a God as the guarantee that the mission will produce results, it needs our collaboration, but its not our collaboration the guarantee of the productiveness, the productiveness relies in God. / Its a text that encourages us to go for the essential and to join the essential with the beauty, and to join the beauty with the best, to not lose ourselves in hermeneutics. / Its an invitation to an active faith, to the faith of our hearts, its not an invitation to a voluntarism, to a prometheism, which puts an emphasis in us, the emphasis is in God, our answer is a loving answer to the love of God. / Its a text that highlights the importance of the word, of a word that hurts like a sword, but a word that drives and motivates. / Hes a God that comes to meet us; its Him who comes to meet us. / Its a text that tells us about a permanent mission, always, every day, in every place. / Ive collected a text that probably talks to us, Lay Communities directly. / We are healing spaces, motivational. / A text that probably talks to us, Marianist Family. / Its a pleasure to get involved, the Pope says the mysticism of getting involved, even though it creates a bit of chaos. / Its a text that invites and calls for a revolution of tenderness, / but that is realistic, its a text that tells us about the poor, that tells us and invites us to look, touch the human wound. / Today we are also on the Calvary day (4:53), as well; / of the ones who are crucified, get close to them because within them theres Christ Crucified. / Its a text, a document that invites us to be realistic, but not serious. I, Isabel Isabella, loves me very much and her love is really good to me, but Im not a person as happy as she as happy as she sees me. I cant get to see so I probably have a serious face right now, but the Pope says, Let us not be serious or sad, have an ugly face, a sour face. Let us not be pessimistic, realistic, yes, but with hope / because everything is in Gods hands, we know that our effort wont be in vain, but its due to the grace of God. / We have to put a lot of water in the stone jars from Cana, / but its Him who is going to turn it into wine / and we are certain of this, when? Thats what we dont know. But we know that God is with us, that our life is in the hands of God and its a very good thing being in Gods hands, its the best. So I invite you to have a time of meditation, of happiness, and contemplation, with these fragments from Pope Francis. Viernes 31 Domingo Fuentes

Im going to tell you or, using a word weve borrowed these days, narrate a little of what Ive lived during these 8 years that sometimes seemed long and now they seem short. Im going to tell you a little of what Ive learned. / Its been 8 years of life lessons, of presence, of being connected / every day, every hour through email, of being with the hands in the cookie jar. / Its been 8 years of being with the international team and walk with the Lay Communities of the world. / And in part, I also think I can say its been 8 years of walking and being close to the Marianist Family around the world and its been a time of grace that I thank God in the first place, and of Marianist grace and I thank all the Marianist Family, the world council and I thank this team that has been amazing. / I think that Ive been religious within the international team. / Ive been a member of the TLMs within the Society of Mary and within the Marianist Family, or perhaps better, and Ive simply been a Marianist with other Marianists. / Ive tried to do what they asked me to in the international team. / I didnt know what was like to be a consultant of an international team either. / They have been telling me and Ive been learning throughout these 8 years. / Ive been very attentive to that. / As consultant, Ive felt pushed to be some sort of spiritual guide but with no solemnity. / Ive been asked to focus on the prayer, on preparing, helping out in the retreats, in our meetings, / on reminding our Marianist tradition to our founders, / on helping in our path of faith, as a team, as a group. / And sometimes Ive worked as a translator, without speaking English, and very little French. / Ive talked and Ive given my opinion much less than Im used to. / And Ive also tried to do it after the members of the team have already done it. / Ive tried to be patient, to stay calm and even instill it with others when I had it, to listen carefully, try to understand what was unknown or unfathomable to me. / Definitely, try to accept in the heart. Ive tried to love what we were. / Ive tried I think Ive appreciated a lot and Ive tried to respect what we were. / In the group Ive felt free and Ive felt very well, maybe because Ive felt very appreciated and loved. Thank you. / I havent finished. / It was to take a breath. / What I havent done / I havent trained consultants or have meetings with consultants, that sometimes I thought itd be important. I havent written, I havent defined anything, I havent replied all the emails, and occasionally I felt overwhelmed. But, all of this has taken me out of my comfort zone and it has pushed me to study about our charisma and Ive grown a lot in that, and to commit; but there has been quite a lot of things I havent done and Im sorry for that. / I think that as a team weve been attentive and weve tried to cultivate the presence of God in our live and in our meetings, and weve tried to be available to do Gods will. / In this team, no ones trilingual, we are not very good at languages, however, weve grown in other ways of communication, in communicating us the essential, the interior, the basics, the convictions. / These days, Ive realized that this limitation has turned into a force and I thank God and the team for that. / And, to sum up, I hope and trust, or rather, / I want to know how to wait, be trusting, be patient, which is not the same as having patience, / and I think that if you let it wrap you, as we say in Portuguese, and I dont know how to say in Spanish, if you let it encircle you or hold you, what you believe will come true, what you wish for, the grace you ask for, if you believe it and you love it, it comes true. The wish I had during this meeting is for our diversity to become intensity, both in the Lay Communities and the whole Marianist Family. I hope and believe in that. Thank you.
