Dr. Usha Surendra completed her B.E degree from Sri Jayachamarajendra college of Engineering, Mysore
affiliated to University of Mysore (UOM) securing 1
st
class distinction during 1984. She received merit topper
award from the college during her 3
rd
and 4
th
year engineering course. She did her M.Tech in Power systems
from National Institute of Engineering Mysore in 2003, affiliated to visvesvaraya Technological University
(VTU),Belgaum and secured 1
st
Rank. She received Basavaraj Muddebihal gold medal award from VTU for 1
st

rank and also received gold medal from NIE Mysore. She obtained her Ph.D in the area of Electronics from PET
Research Center, PES College of Engineering, Mandya under University of Mysore during 2013.

She has served various positions in different industries as Design Engineer, Quality Engineer, Production
Engineer at HAL (Bangalore), Kirloskar Electric Company Ltd (Mysore) and as Asst Engineer at Karnataka Power
Corporation Limited (KPCL).

After 9 years of industrial service, she switched to academics. Initially she served as lecturer in Sreemath
Polytechni,Mysore for 6 years and then joined Vidya Vikas Institute of Technology as faculty in Electrical and
Electronics Dept during October 1999. In 2005 she was promoted as Asst Professor in the same department,
where she served till December 2008. Then she joined NIE Institute of Technology in Dec 2008 as Asst Professor
and Head of Electrical & Electronics Dept. She was the first founder faculty of E&E Dept and was responsible for
establishment of the dept, facilities and laboratories of E&E Dept in NIEIT. She became Professor after her Ph.D
Degree and now working as Head of Electronics and Communication Engineering from Nov 2013 at NIEIT. She
served as Incharge Principal of NIEIT from Feb 2013 to Aug 2013. She is having total experience of 29 years.

She has guided more that 50 projects at UG level. She has published 15 Technical papers in International,
National journals and Conferences. She is member of Board of studies with many autonomous institutions and life
member of Institution of Engineers (IEI), Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (IETE).
She is a reviewer of few technical journals.
