during the primary grades-
attendance, study habits, behavior
and attitudes; therefore it is very
important for parents to value school
and provide positive guidance.

Students feel better about
themselves, make better grades,
learn to interact with other children
and adults, and become more
independent and able to solve
problems on their own. Success
becomes a habit.

Attendance is mandatory in the
state of Texas.
Yes, when a student is enrolled
in PK & Kinder, they are
required to follow the same
state attendance guidelines for
all students.

Call the attendance office at 858-3801; leave
a message with your students name, teacher
and reason for the absence.

E-mail the teacher and registrar with the date
and reason for the absence.

Enter the absence through Family Access
with student name, reason and date of the
absence.

Send in a written note to the teacher with
your students full name, date of absence and
reason.

Parents have 48 hours to notify the school of
their students absence. When a students
absence for personal illness exceeds four (4)
consecutive days, a doctors verification must
be presented upon return to school

Excused: doctor appointment,
illness, school business, funeral,
religious holiday

Unexcused absence: out of town,
vacation, no reason given for
absence, no doctor note for
appointment

According to Texas Education Code 25.092,
students are required to attend at least
90% of the days a class is offered in order
to obtain credit. A student who
accumulates 18 absences (excused or
unexcused) will lose credit for the class.
The campus Attendance Committee may
reinstate credit if they find that the
absences are the result of extenuating
circumstances. If the Attendance
Committee finds that there are no
extenuating circumstances for the
absences or if conditions established by the
committee for earning credit are not met,
the committee shall deny credit for the
class. A student, whose petition for credit
is denied, may appeal the Attendance
Committees decision to the Board of
Trustees. A student may be allowed to
regain credit by completing make-up work
and/or making up days lost for absences.

Warning Notice- provided to
the parent in writing after the
child has
missed approximately 7% of the
school year (12 attendance
period absences). This letter
notifies parents of the 90%
attendance requirement
provides a warning to monitor
attendance.
Attendance For Credit
Violation Notice/Notice of
Required Attendance Appeal
Conference-
provided to the parent in
writing after the child has
missed more than 10% of the
school year (18th attendance
period absences). This letter
notifies parents that their
child has missed more than 10%
or the school days for the year
and credit for the school year
is denied. The letter provides
further instructions for initial
appeal of the loss of credit.
Attendance For Credit
Violation Notice/Notice of
Required Attendance Review
Committee Hearing-
provided to the parent in writing
after the child has missed more
than25% of the school year
(45th attendance period
absences). This letter notifies
parents that
the student has missed more
than 25% or the school days for
the year and must schedule a
hearing of the Attendance
Review Committee within the
next 10 school days. No
additional notices shall be sent.
