BTT 101 Newsletter Assignment - Columns

In this assignment you will create a 2 page newsletter using MS Word. Your newsletter must be set up as
follows:
Your newsletter must include the following content:
1. The name of your newsletter use WordArt. Be Creative in choosing a name for your newsletter.

2. Create the backgrounds for your pages using shapes, colours and fills. Make sure your colours
complement each other. Usually, 2 colours plus black and white are most effective.

3. Your work must make use of columns or look like it has been done in columns.

4. Use Textboxes to type in for your articles and other material. Match up backgrounds, fills etc. as
needed to make your work look appealing.

5. Use pictures, clipart, etc. to make your work look visually appealing. Add effects to your images (eg.
Shadows, reflections, glows, etc.) to make them look appealing.

6. An editorial by you about something related to school life, events, issues, controversies, etc. The length
of this should be at least 100 words. All articles must use full justification, and must start with your
name as the author of the article. Include a mugshot of you at the beginning of the article.

7. An advertisement. Newspapers must sell advertisements to pay for the cost of a newspaper. Create a
small advertisement for a fake local company. Create it using TEXTBOXS, shapes, etc. and then place
your work on your page appropriately. Include the name and logo of the company as well as their
slogan. You also need to include their address, phone number and web address. You must create your
own!!! Do not copy one from the Internet.

8. A 'real-life' story. It could be a story on a major event-taking place in the world, a movie or music
review, a sports report, or editorial on a major issue. The situation must be real. Make sure the article
is in your own words. (100-word minimum)

9. Fill the rest of your newsletter with other items commonly found in newletters, such as:
Weather forecast
Horoscope
An inspirational Quote of the day
Something else you can think of

10. Your article text may be no larger than size 12, unless it is a headline. Other text (eg. Title of
Newsletter, in your ad, or your extras, can be in font sizes of your choice as long as appropriate).

11. Use Drop Caps at the beginning of your editorial and your real-life story.

12. Be sure to proofread your work. Spellcheck and grammar check as well.

13. All available space must be utilized on your pages. Space everything out so it looks as good as possible.
