Valley High School Band Program, provided philosophical, educational and organizational leadership for one of the
high-achieving band programs in the state of Iowa, nurtured culture of educational and musical growth for all
participating students within a program dedicated to balanced emphasis on concert bands, marching band, lessons,
chamber ensembles, and jazz ensembles

VHS Band Boosters, collaborated with parent organization providing leadership in the areas of philosophy, organizational
structures, 5-12 director coordination and communication, visioning, strategic planning, long term financial projection,
budget development, trip planning, festival management, concert presentation, uniform systems, uniform purchases,
performance logistics, and financial development (conservatively $2.25 million, 1991-2013)


ValleyFest, collaborated with stakeholders providing leadership in the areas of logistical organization, director (client)
relationships, philosophy, publicity, television-media coordination, and long-term planning for one of the largest single-
day marching festivals in the upper-Midwest, traditionally featuring 26-30 bands and 48-52 performances (day and night
show)

Perry Band Olympics, collaborated with staff, students, private teachers, parents, and accompanists providing leadership
and instruction for student participation in large solo and ensemble festival. Participation numbers were in the 185-224
range, with over 85 percent of students in the 9-12 program participating

I owa Bandmasters Association, served as chairperson for the Publicity Committee, Conference Equipment Committee,
and Concert Band Affairs Committee, South Central Iowa Bandmasters Association President, in addition to serving as
President of Iowa Bandmasters Association, the largest professional organization of band directors in the State of Iowa.

Wind Whispers in the Glen, original composition for Dowling Catholic High School Clarinet Choir. Composition draws
on Percy Graingers, Irish Tune from County Derry and the poetic text, Danny Boy, 2014

The Music of Arvo Part, An I ntroduction and Exploration, introduced music of Arvo Part, Estonian minimalist
composer, to the VHS Symphony Band students and community through orchestrations completed specifically for the
ensemble. Choral setting orchestrations include, O Morgenstern, Nunc Dimittis, from Sieben Magnificat-Antiphonen,
Solfeggio, 2013

VHS March Book Collection, initiated and sustained six-year project dedicated to the preservation and reconstruction of
the small march book sets collected in the VHS Band Library. Sets include music published over the past 105 years.
Reconstruction required research and coordination with schools, repositories, colleges, universities, conservatories, and
publishers, throughout the United States and Canada. Project culminated with 347 titles organized and assembled for
daily use in the classroom and public performance, 2007-2012

Recording Projects, Enchanted Valley, studio recording and compact disc (published) of commissioned work made
through special collaboration with composer and the Valley H.S. Symphony Band, 2011, First Ever, studio recording and
compact disc (published) featuring ensembles from the VHS Instrumental Music Department, 2007, Progressions, studio

VHS Wind and Percussion Commissions, developed organizational architecture and structures important to support an
ongoing commissioning project dedicated to enriching educational opportunities for students and supporting young,
