conflicts, such as wars in the Middle East, Gulf Wars and wars on terror, has lead to internal conflict within the population as a large sum of people oppose this violence and speak/act out against it. Iraq's August 2, 1990 invasion of Kuwait sent shockwaves around the world. Not only were the oil-rich states of the Persian Gulf important to the world economy. President George Bush also saw the invasion as a direct threat to the international system. { September 11 2001 As a result of the 9/11 Terrorist Attack more than 3000 people have died and more than $40 billion has been spent on recovery. President Bush proposed the Department of Homeland Security to prevent other attacks from happening within the US again (Digital History.) Along with the many tragedies Muslims started to feel the wrath as they were all considers terrorists. The attack caused political, social, and economic reactions throughout the world (Shah, War on Terror.) A huge result of 9/11 was the US along with our allies called a war on Afghanistan calling it the War on Terror, (Shah, War on Terror.) There is concern that the war on terror will also affect all those working honestly for peace and social justice for all, (Shah, War on Terror.) This war will cause and affect many people. This War on Terror was also, A stepping stone to relentless repeal of civil liberties, militarization of law enforcement, and inauguration of Police State USA, (Chossudovsky.) "After September 11 the Bush Administration started to define American security in terms of its capacity to influence regime change in rogue states. The exporting of democracy was brought to the status of defining principle of the foreign policy doctrine, becoming an important part of the American response to the terrorist threat. In fact, we can say that in the Bush Administration the third principle of American foreign policy doctrine, as identified above, was crucial to justify the military invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. It assumed that the US and the world would only be truly safe when rogue states became democratic. This is because the President and his Secretaries of State and Defense thought that, in the long run, the major weapon to fight terrorism was democracy. The reason was that it was assumed that authoritarian states harbored terrorists, and produced and distributed to them weapons of mass destruction (WMDs)." The Pentagon attack on September 11 th 2001 President Bush announces the start of a war against Iraq. Allied forces begin the campaign with strikes on military targets, including an attempt to kill Saddam Hussein. Saddam Hussein's rule collapses in a matter of hours as much of Baghdad comes under American control. Across much of the capital, Iraqis take to the streets to topple statues of Mr. Hussein, loot government ministries and interrogation centers, and give a cheering, often tearful welcome to advancing American troops.( Crichton) Foreign Policy establishes and maintains diplomatic relations with other countries and organizations; there are peacekeeping meetings with allies to ensure national debt as well as arms are under control. There are numerous people who make and carry out the foreign policy. First of all there is the president and then the executive branch, these being the two most powerful forces in the policy. From there on the President relies on the National Security Council (made up of head of CIA, secretary of defense, secretary of state, vise president, and the chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff). Congress also plays a part, mostly where the declaration of war is concerned. And interestingly the Supreme Court has jurisdiction over cases involving treaties, admiralty and maritime law, and ambassadors and other public minister, as well as deciding disputes between states and foreign states and their citizens and subjects.
Saddam Hussein, once the all-powerful leader of Iraq, is arrested without a fight by American soldiers who find him crouching in an eight-foot hole at an isolated farm near Tikrit. He is haggard, dirty and disoriented after eluding capture for nearly nine months. Saddam Hussein is hanged just before dawn at an execution chamber in Baghdad during the morning call to prayer.(Crichton)
President Obama declares an end to the seven-year American combat mission in Iraq, saying that the United States has met its responsibility to that country and that it is now time to turn to pressing problems at home. 2011 President Obama said that the last American soldier would leave Iraq by the end of the year, bringing to an end a nearly nine-year military engagement that cost the lives of 4,400 troops and more than $1 trillion, divided the American public, and came to define Americas role in the world.
