Uniflow Jacketed Tnks from Process

The Uni fl ow

consi sts of a uni que 120'
radi us conti nuous coi l whi ch i s automati cal l y
formed and wel ded (ful l penetrati on) to the
vessel surface. Thi s creates an excep-
t i onal l y st rong, di st ort i on-f ree met al bond
and decreases shel l t hi ckness. The 120'
radi us confi gurati on of the Uni fl ow coi l el i m-
i nates unj acketed areas between coi l s. Thi s,
i n turn, provi des a greater heat transfer area
than comparabl e channel wal l or hal f pi pe
jackets.
Because Uniflow
jacketed
tanks are
zoned, batch processi ng can be easi l y con-
trol l ed. For exampl e, i f a processor needs to
run a 500 gal l on bat ch i n a 1000 gal l on
vessel , the top zone can be turned off and
the vessel wi l l be heated onl y to the 500
gal l on l evel . Thi s resul t s i n subst ant i al en-
ergy savi ngs and prevents product burn-on
duri ng parti al batch runs. Uni fl ow
j acketed
tanks range i n si ze l rom 25 to 5000 gal l ons
wi t h a maxi mum worki ng pressure of 250
PSIG. They are avai l abl e wi th a choi ce of
di shed, pi tched, or cone-shaped bottoms. Al l

i nsul ati on sheaths and a number of scraped
surJace agi tator desi gns to fudher i ncrease
efficiency and heat transfer.
In an appl i cati on whi ch requi red a 1500
gallon batch of product to be steam heated
from 60' F to 180"F, hel d for 5 mi nutes, then
cool ed (usi ng 45' F water) to B0' F, the fol -
l owi ng resul ts were obtai ned. The standard,

be run in a Uniflow
