Music Appreciation [Week 2, Day 2]

Theme: moving into 80s rock music
Overview:
A general overview of 80s music with the rise of a large spectrum of subgenres, particularly new wave
Heavy Metal and Alternative Rock
Objectives:
Students will get to know some of the prominent bands of the time
Listen to some of the greatest hits of each artist group
Materials:
A computer with speakers, a projector, and internet access
Preparation
Open up YouTube videos on computer
Introduction (5 minutes)
Welcome campers, inform them we are now in the 1980s again, with Heavy Metal making a
comeback, and Alternative Rock developing
Procedure (65 minutes)
After a decline in Heavy Metal in the mid-70s, 1980 brought a new wave of Heavy Metal
incorporated elements of punk, increased the tempo, and adopted a tougher/heavier/harder
sound than previous metal bands
