Hospital Description
Metropolitan Hospital was built on year 1964 as a tertiary level hospital right in the heart of
downtown Manila of a group of distinguished doctors and some prominent businessmen from the
Christian Gospel Church. It is a private institution that composed of 300 bed capacity, located at
#1357 Guillermo Masangkay St., Sta. Cruz, Manila. The mission of the hospital is to provide
quality health care to all regardless of creed, nationality, race or religion, to provide training for
doctors, nurses and paramedics, and to promote goodwill.
Job Description
Provide professional nursing care to patient based on the need plan of care through synthesizing
the mastery of technical procedure with the ability to remain compassionate and sensitive to
patient’s needs in accordance with the nursing philosophy, policies and procedures in the
hospital in a certain situation within an assigned area.
Duties and Responsibilities
Medical Ward:
I. Rendering admission care of patient
- Establishes rapport with patient
- Take vital signs accurately
- Performs nursing assessment through clinical inspections
- Identifies subjective and objective problems and needs of patient
- Priorities needs and problems of patient on case to case basis
- Provide social, spiritual, emotional, mental and psychological support
- Utilizes interaction process with patients and family members creating therapeutic environment
to alleviate anxiety fear
II. During the entire hospitalization
- Analyze problem and nursing needs of patients and plan their care
- Detects abnormalities from assessment, results of laboratories and diagnostic examinations and
reports to physician accurately
- Maintains therapeutic and caring environment
- Gives comfort measures as bath, oral hygiene, perineal care, proper positioning and draping
- Renders symptomatic relief such as tepid sponge bath and back rubs
- Assists and encourage patient in doing his activities of daily living within each capacity
limitations
- Recognize changes in patients condition and takes appropriate nursing actions
- Monitor intake and output of patient every hour
- Renders emergency measures to critically ill patients such as resuscitation and suctioning,
cardiac massage, oxygen inhalation
- Doing colostomy care and tracheostomy care
- Measures CVP (Central Venous Pressure) line
- Administer medications and treatment exercising professional and legal responsibilities
- Utilizes terminal and concurrent disinfecting techniques to prevent spread of infection
- Joins medical and nursing rounds to discuss patient’s condition and arrive at appropriate
medical and nursing measures
- Shares and confers with physicians:
a. Observations of physical and behavioral manifestations of patients
b. Changes in medications and treatments
c. Referral to other departments, agencies and services
d. Nutritional needs
- Makes frequent rounds to monitor patient’s condition and institute necessary nursing measures
to ensure safety
- Coordinates with other members of the health team to meet the needs of the patients
- Prepares physical, mental and emotional needs to patients to any kind of procedure
a. Explain and provide necessary information to patient prior to procedure
b. Provide privacy through proper positioning and draping
c. Ensures comfort and safety before and after the procedure
- Documents everything that has been done to patients as well as observation from the time of
admission to the time of discharge
- Prepares and endorses nursing care reports and records to the incoming staff to ensure
continuity of care
