Heavy oil and bitumen are characterized by high viscosities
and low API gravities, so increased power is required for
economical production and transportation. Extraordinary
pumping power is crucial.
Proven technology for greater value
Our latest generation DVS centrifugal pump uses proven GE
technology to increase performance while reducing costs
and environmental impact. The pump is designed to deliver
3-4% higher efciency than its predecessor, and achieves
a ow rate of up to 10,000 m

per hour. Most commonly
coupled to an electric motor, the DVS signicantly reduces
operator electricity costs and associated CO
2
emissions from
power generation.

Hydraulic design
The DVS pump design has been optimized through extensive
CFD modeling and algorithms. Both the suction and volute
channels, as well as the impellers, have been shaped to
maximize uniform ow while avoiding recirculation and
friction losses. Our advanced impeller design also minimizes
vane and disk friction losses, and optimizes blade loading.
Mechanical design
Use of integrated 3D CAD modelling and FEM structural
analysis has resulted in a highly effective casing shape,
avoiding unnecessary thickness and stress concentration
under pressure and piping loads. Extensive simulations were
conducted to prevent deformation during the casting and
heat treatment processes.
Environmental design
DVS high-efciency pumps have passed a stringent
testing and qualication process to be included in GEs
ecomagination program which develops products, services
and ideas that are simultaneously better for business and
the environment. Running at full capacity for one year, a
new DVS pump can save energy equivalent to the annual
electricity consumption of more than 200 US homes while
pumping a volume equivalent to one Olympic swimming
pool every 16 minutes.
