Hi-Temp 1027 -
- CUI Prevents Corrosion Under Insulation
- DTR Direct to Tight, Clean Rust Application
- Stainless Steel Prevents Stress Corrosion Cracking
- Cryogenic Protects Cryogenic Equipment
- Primer High Build, High Solids
Service Temperature minus 300F (-185C) to 1200F (650C)
Carbon Steel/Stainless Steel - Atmospheric or Insulated Service
Hi-Temp 1027 is a high build, single component coating specifically formulated for corrosion resistance and long life adhesion
over insulated and un-insulated carbon steel or stainless steel with operating surface temperatures that can range from cryogenic
to above 1200F (538C) including cyclic service.
Hi-Temp 1027 is a self-priming, low VOC material which air dries to a stable film at ambient temperatures. It can also be applied
to hot surfaces on operating equipment up to 500 F (260 C), eliminating the need for costly shutdown during maintenance.
Hi-Temp 1027 does not require heating to achieve cure and corrosion resistance.
Hi-Temp 1027 offers excellent corrosion resistance at the full range of service temperatures:
Intermittent immersion in water up to 212F (100C)
Cyclic service to a peak temperature of 1200F (649C)
1027 can withstand severe thermal cycling from minus 300F (-185C) to 1000F (538C) on cryogenic equipment
1027 can be top coated with itself for either CUI or exposed service. Some minor discoloring may occur in exposed
service, but corrosion protection will not be compromised.
1027 can be top coated with appropriate Hi-Temp products available in a full range of colors.
1027 provides a UV-resistant film with no maximum recoat interval, regardless of temperature, as long as the surface to
be recoated is clean and free of all contaminants.

SURFACE PREPARATION
As with all coatings, performance and service life of Hi-Temp 1027are relative to the quality of surface
preparation accomplished.
Carbon Steel surfaces to be coated with Hi-Temp 1027 should be dry and free of all weld splatter, oil, dirt, grease,
and all other nonvisible contaminants, especially salts. Round off all rough welds and sharp edges. Dry abrasive blast to
SSPC SP-6, Commercial Blast, with 1.5 - 2.5 mil (38-63 micron) profile. Wet abrasive blast or UHP Wash with grit
injection to achieve an equivalent of SSPC SP-6.
For new or aged exposed surfaces, if abrasive blast preparation is not possible, use SSPC SP-3, Power Tool Cleaning or
SSPC SP-2, Hand Tool Cleaning. For surfaces to be insulated, if abrasive blast preparation is not possible, use SSPC SP-
11, power tool cleaning to bare metal. As with all coatings, performance and service life of Hi-Temp 1027 is relative to the
quality of surface preparation accomplished.
For aged, rusted steel surfaces, Hi-Temp 1027 can be applied over a hand tool cleaned surface in which tight, clean
rust is still present. A surface which, when viewed without magnification, exhibits a layer of rust that obscures the
original steel surface. The rust or discoloration may be evenly distributed or present in patches, but it is tightly adherent
and not easily removed by lightly wiping with a cloth. Salt residues, loose paint or particles, oils, dirt, grease, and all other
non-visible contaminants must be removed prior to application of Hi-Temp 1027.
Stainless Steel In all cases, surface preparation must remove all salts, grease, oil, dirt, drawing and cutting
compounds, atmospheric contaminants or other foreign matter, in accordance with SSPC SP-1. IMPORTANT: DO NOT
USE CHLORINATED SOLVENTS ON STAINLESS STEEL SURFACES. Large surfaces may need a high or low pressure
wash or steam cleaning with an alkaline detergent, followed by a freshwater rinse, solvent cleaning or any of the above
followed by light abrasive sweep blast using an appropriate chloride free abrasive. Water used should be potable grade or
better and should be checked to assure minimal salt content. Do not use any chemical additives in the rinse water. Allow
rinsed surfaces to dry before start of optional mechanical surface preparation. After completion of any mechanical surface
preparation, re-rinse with a potable grade water or better to remove any residue. Allow rinsed surfaces to dry before
coating application. An anchor profile is not mandatory for adhesion of Hi-Temp 1027 on Stainless Steel surfaces.
Small areas may be prepared by solvent wiping with HTC #5 or #6 thinner, which is a chloride-free solvent. Consult HTC
Technical Support regarding surface preparation for further guidance.
MIXING, THINNING, AND CLEANUP
Hi-Temp 1027 is a heavy bodied material; use mechanical agitation for mixing, and as needed during application.
Be sure any settled solids are removed from the bottom of each can during mixing.

APPLICATION
GENERAL: For ambient application, surface temperature should be a minimum of 5 F (3C) above the dew point. Do not apply
to surfaces with surface temperature below 50F (10 C). Hi-Temp 1027 should be applied by conventional or airless spray. Apply
thin even passes, overlapping each pass 50%. Hold spray gun 10 - 12 (25 to 30 cm) from surface at right angles. Do not
exceed recommended maximum dry film thicknesses for the appropriate service type and temperatures.
*For brush or roller application refer to (APPLICATION GUIDELINES FOR HI-TEMP 1027). A smooth coated surface is better
achieved with a spray application.
APPLICATION EQUIPMENT: For conventional spray, use an agitated pot with dual regulators and gauges, with pot air
pressure of 30-40psi, Air Cap 765, and Fluid Tip E or equivalent. For airless application, at pressures 1500-3500 psi use Tip Size
.015 - .021. Adjust fluid pressure as needed.

APPLICATION TO HOT SURFACES
IMPORTANT! It is essential to apply multiple thin passes of Hi-Temp 1027 during application to hot steel. This process,
similar to mist coating, prevents blistering and also allows solvent to escape without leaving pinholes. Use of solvents other than
Hi-Temp #5 or #6 thinner could produce a fire hazard, and dry spray and poor film characteristics in the Hi-Temp 1027 may also
result. If blisters are observed in Hi-Temp 1027 applied to hot surfaces immediately brush out the blisters before they set using
a wood-handled china bristle brush. Note that the higher the substrate temperature, the quicker the recoat time.
(SEE GUIDELINES FOR HOT APPLICATIONS).
Warning!! For Hot Surface Application, Do not thin Hi-Temp 1027 with any other solvent besides Hi-Temp Thinner #5 or #6.
