Driving, extracting, drilling and pressing technology.
Everything technically possible.
Using the right machinery and technology is the key to economic working. That is why we
provide not only piling materials, but also equipment and accessories, plus a convincing
engineering concept. And that adds up to a tailored, integrated portfolio suitable for the
most diverse site conditions.
Many different techniques can be used to install pile sections.
Vibratory driving and pressing are among the most important
methods. We can supply a wide range of suitable machinery in
many variations and power categories to suit the requirements
of the site.
Vibratory driving
This is one of the most important methods used in specialist civil
engineering. It is based on the principle of turning the soil into a
liquid state to a certain extent. This is done by vibrating the pile
section. The vibrations reduce the skin friction of the pile section
being installed, which achieves rapid driving progress. Vibrators
can be leader-guided, suspended from a crane or mounted on
an excavator.
Impact driving
Impact driving methods can be used in almost every type of soil.
However, these methods are particularly suitable for driving the
final few metres or for embedding piles in a loadbearing stratum
when vibratory or pressing methods are ineffective. Impact driving
allows the loadbearing capacity of the pile section to be verified.
Drilling
Drilling is mostly used for concrete piles. It can also be used in
conjunction with soil improvement measures.
Pressing
This method involves exerting an exclusively static pressure on
the pile section without any vibration. The noise associated with
driving piles and the negative effects of vibration for neighbouring
buildings and the ground are therefore avoided. Pressing equip-
ment can be leader-guided or mounted directly on top of the
sheet piles.

MLLER Vibrators.
Proven power made in Germany.
MLLER vibrators have a proven track record in civil engineering stretching
back more than 50 years. As leading-edge vibratory products they meet all
market requirements. Suitable for a wide range of applications, their reliability
and constant development make them a relevant market factor.
8 Solutions by MLLER
Choosing the right machine is crucial for the economic and techni-
cal success of vibratory driving. In order to find the most suitable
equipment, we offer our customers individual support that takes
into account all relevant factors, i.e. the site conditions plus the
geological and engineering requirements.
Parameters
Selecting a suitable vibrator essentially depends on the size and
weight of the pile section, the embedment depth and the type of soil.
Basically, the centrifugal force and the amplitude must be chosen
in such a way that the skin friction and tip resistance between the
pile section and the surrounding soil can be overcome.
Equipment selection chart
Parameters, equipment selection and operating principle.
Ensuring top performance.
Equipment selection
The chart below helps users to select the right vibrator or deter-
mine the centrifugal force required depending on soil conditions,
pile weight and driving depth.
The use of additional equipment, e.g. water-jetting or pre-drilling
units, can help to achieve much better driving performance with
the same size of unit or centrifugal force of the vibrator.
The power pack must be powerful enough to generate the moment
needed to maintain the centrifugal force of the vibrator, even in
difficult ground. The drive output should be 23 kW for every 10 kN
of centrifugal force.
Our advisers use numerical simulation software for selecting equip-
ment to suit the soil parameters and pile section data exactly.

Total amplitude S [m]
Together with centrifugal force, amplitude is a measure of driving performance. A large
stroke and high impact force ensure good driving progress. When driving and
extracting in cohesive soils, the elastic connection between pile and soil can only be
broken if the amplitude is high enough.
Acceleration a [m/sec
2
]
Transmission of the pile acceleration to the surrounding soil causes the displacement
of the grain structure and reduces grain friction and soil resistance. Acceleration is
expressed as the ratio of acceleration of the vibrator to gravity:
This ratio corresponds to:
The value can lie between 10 and 30.
Eccentric moment M [kgm]
The eccentric moment is the measure
of unbalance. As a determining factor
for amplitude it is a key parameter for
driving operations.
Speed (Frequency) n [rpm]
The speed dictates the vibration frequency of the system. The vibrations are
transferred via the pile to the surrounding soil, significantly reducing the surface
friction between pile and soil. High frequencies counter the unwanted spread of
vibrations in the soil.
Centrifugal force
The centrifugal force must be high enough to overcome
surface friction between pile and soil. Centrifugal force
plays a major part in reducing surface friction and provi-
des impact force to overcome tip resistance.

10 Solutions by MLLER
The H series is the workhorse of vibration technology. Their
robust yet simple design enables these units to be used wherever
there are no restrictions on the propagation of vibrations in the soil.
With an eccentric moment that can be adapted to the soil condi-
tions, the HHF series is ideal for applications with changing geo-
logical conditions. The largest units of this series are suitable for
driving even the heaviest sheet piles into dense, compact soils.
MLLER H-, HHF- or HFV-series vibrators.
The right choice for every application.
The eccentrics can be adjusted during driving, and so the HFV
series is ideal wherever maximum restrictions on the propagation
of vibrations in the soil apply, e.g. working directly adjacent to
existing buildings or in urban areas. These units avoid resonant
vibrations during starting and stopping and also allow the amplitude
to be optimised during driving to suit the ground conditions.

Power packs are needed to drive hydraulic vibrators. Inside a soundproofed
housing, a diesel engine drives the hydraulic pump that ensures the neces-
sary flow of oil (required by the hydraulic motor) via hoses to the vibrator.
Every integral diesel engine is a low-noise, low-maintenance unit complying
with the latest emissions regulations. Operations can be optimised and
monitored via a programmable control connected via cable or a radio link.
As an option, operating parameters and machine data can be called up
remotely via a data modem.
Advantages
Small, lightweight design with closed oil circuit
Good reliability thanks to the use of diesel engines, pumps, controls
and other components all well-proved in on-site operations
Comprehensive range of accessories, e.g. teleservicing package,
winter package, or bypass fine filter

MLLER clamping devices
Clamping devices connect the pile section, e.g. H-sections or tubular piles,
to the vibrator and transfer the vibrations. All units can be rotated through 90
for face working. Adapter plates are available to cope with different clamping
arrangements. Clamps to fit over the interlocks of double piles and radial
clamps for driving tubular piles are also available. Important for making the
right choice: the clamping force of the clamping device must be at least
1.2 times the centrifugal force of the vibrator.
Applications
As single and double clamps for U-/Z-sections, H-sections and tubular piles
As special clamping devices for specific tasks, e.g. timber piles, concrete
piles and small-diameter tubular piles
Arrangement of clamps
21 Solutions by MLLER
MLLER Data acquisition.
Mobile measurement, indication and recording
of vibrations.
The data acquisition system enables simple and reliable monitoring
of the driving process to ensure that the design requirements are
adhered to. The system records operating parameters such as
operating frequency and vibrator oil pressure. In addition, ground
vibrations can be measured via a three-axis geophone according
to DIN 4150. When using water-jetting equipment to assist driving,
the water pressure and flow rate can also be recorded.
MS-DATA
The data acquisition equipment is integrated directly into the
drives control unit. The data can then be sent via cable to a
computer on site or via modem and data transmission to an
Internet server for safe storage. The data can be called up from
any computer with Internet access after entering the necessary
password. Bespoke record forms to suit customers requirements
are also possible. The power pack control automatically regulates
the operating parameters of the vibrator so that given vibration
limits for ground or buildings are not exceeded.
MS-DATA M
MS-DATA M is the mobile version of the measuring system for
flexible usage without a power pack. The data is transferred to a
measuring unit and shown on a display. Vibration limits are easy
to set on the device; if these are reached, yellow and red lamps
warn the user. The system can also be fitted with a modem for
saving the data to an Internet server for further processing.
Advantages
Optimum system compatibility everything from one supplier
Vibration monitoring to DIN 4150
Constant monitoring of operating parameters
Recording of multiple parameters
Safe data storage to protect against loss
Simple records

MLLER fine filters
The bypass oil filter is a filter system that supplements the hydraulic filter
already fitted. The bypass oil filter is used for the fine filtering of the hydraulic oil.
The lower flow rate via the filter means that a much finer filter can be selected
than is the case with standard filter elements. Therefore, much finer particles
can be removed from the oil than is the case with full-flow oil filters. Bypass
filters are available for all MLLER power packs.
Advantages
Prolongs the life of the hydraulic oil and the system components
Avoids acids in the oil through absorption of water
Fewer malfunctions thanks to the improved cleanliness of the hydraulic oil
Reduced repair costs and downtimes
Reduced load on primary filters and therefore lower maintenance costs

ABI Vibrators.
Always the right one.
Advantages
Adaptation to different soil conditions
Higher frequencies
Increased sheeting performance
Reduction of vibratory and noise emissions
MRZV-S with fixed static moment
This machine is a proven classic among the vibrators. It works with
high-frequency vibrations for good results in all pilable soils.
MRZV-V with variable static moment
On the MRZV-V the static moment is variable. This variability allows for
an ideal adaptation to the present soil conditions and requirements of
the construction task. By adjusting the eccentric masses, oscillations
occurring when running through the natural frequencies of the soils are
reduced to a minimum so that no oscillation peaks are developing.
MRZV-VV with variable static moment and variable
hydraulic suction volume
The MRZV-VV vibrators not only have a variable static moment. The
suction volume is variable as well. Thus, one vibrator covers a great
variety of different driving tasks. In addition, the vibrator can make full use
of the provided hydraulic power at all times. With conventional variable
vibrators this often cannot be realized in practice.
Applications
Driving / extracting of steel sections like sheet pile walls,
steel sections and tubular piles

On many construction sites a vibration-free method must be used. Among
them are in particular sheeting work near computing centers, historic buildings,
hospitals, schools, etc. This is where the Hydro-Press-System brings its
advantages to bear: The pressing or extracting is done statically. Depending
on the geology and the type of sheet pile wall, performances nearly coming
up to those of conventional driving methods can be achieved.
Thus the system is a real alternative to soldier pile wall / Berlin-type pit
lining, in particular when a high groundwater level causes problems. The
Hydro-Press-System is attached to the telescopic leader or the fixed leader.
Applications
All construction sites with a vibration-sensitive environment
A typical example are works on the sewerage system near buildings
Advantages

ABI Clamp assemblies.
Getting to grips.
Clamp assemblies are used to pick up, position and transmit the power to the
pile element. As there are quite some different elements used for driving, we
offer the appropriate clamp assembly for each of them. Since only the appro-
priate clamp assembly, like e.g. casing, interlock or double clamp assembly,
can guarantee an effective driving operation.
Due to their adjusting facilities the multi-purpose clamp assemblies of type
MZK can be used in a flexible and particularly material-saving manner.
Advantages
Suitable for double Z-sections, double U-sections and tubular piles
Single clamps can be rotated and displaced continuously

Excellent stability.
Impact-driving into the soil demands a very high expenditure of force. In line
with that fact, the requirements regarding machine power and stability are
particularly high. Impact-driving procedures can be used in nearly any kind
of soils.
Usually diesel hammers and hydraulic free-fall hammers are used for this
work. They are suitable for the post-driving of pile elements or to integrate
pile elements into bearing layers. Impact-driving procedures are also indis-
pensable when a proof of the soil bearing capacity needs to be provided.
The BANUT fixed leader is designed for impact-driving in particular. Precast
concrete piles as well as tubular piles, steel sections, sheet pile sections and
timber piles are impact-driven in the first place. Besides hydraulic free-fall
hammers diesel hammers can be used as well.

DELMAG Diesel hammers.
Strong and independent.
Basically, diesel hammers function like a two-stroke engine. Therefore they
do not need to be connected to an external energy supply and do not require
any steam, compressed-air, hydraulic or electric groups to drive them. If
necessary, a hydraulic starting device is used when they are mounted to
leaders on hydraulic carriers.
Applications
Foundation work, like e.g. driving of steel sections
and prefabricated concrete piles

GIKEN Silent Piler.
Gentle giant.
The vibrations and noise of a building site are becoming a problem in more and more locations.
Conventional methods of driving cannot always comply with the demands. So a special method
of installing piles is needed. Pile-supported pressing solves this challenge, and the GIKEN Silent
Piler was developed to meet that challenge. It is an efcient driving system that works with little
noise and no vibrations, and at the same time achieves optimum results in the most diverse
subsoil and site conditions.

Exclusive distributor for Germany, other countries on request.
38
During pressing, the GIKEN Silent Piler exerts only static pressure
on the pile being driven. Therefore, the negative effects intrinsic
to vibratory driving are avoided right from the start. Nevertheless,
we should not be afraid of comparing the economics of pile-
supported pressing with those of conventional methods because,
for example, round-the-clock operations are also readily possible
with this method.
Applications
Installation and extraction of single U-sections up to 750 mm,
single Z-sections up to 708 mm and tubular piles
Installation and extraction of double U-sections up to 1400 mm
and double Z-sections up to 1416 mm
For sites where noise and vibration could be a problem
Also suitable for difficult soil conditions when used
in conjunction with appropriate driving aids (super crush
and water-jetting modes)
Advantages
Low noise, no vibrations
No ground settlement problems, no damage to nearby structures
Can be used for night-time operations or in areas where noise
must be minimised
Stable machine design
Remote control for safe, convenient operations
No working platform necessary
Simple operating principle with self-propelled travel
Requires only a small workforce
Faster operations with little effort

KRUPP Double-head drilling systems and drilling rigs.
For geothermal drilling.
Drilling systems
In order to win geothermal energy you need top-class drilling tech-
nology. Therefore our drilling equipment for this special application
meets the highest demands regarding capability, precision, quality
and safety.
Double-head drilling systems
In order to win heat from the ground in the surface-near geother-
my, the drilling must usually be executed in most narrow spaces.
The most frequently practiced method for obtaining geothermal
energy is extraction by means of downhole heat exchangers.
Geothermal probes are introduced in vertical boreholes in depths
of over 300 meters. A specific procedure is used to do so the
double-head drilling system. The drilling is executed with two
heads rotating in opposite directions so that the respective
transmissions are positioned one behind the other.
Drilling equipment for geothermal boreholes
Drilling equipment specifically designed for the double-head
drilling technique are used even in confined spaces as well as
difficult geologies. The standard equipment of the drilling equipment
contains all components that are necessary to execute optimum
geothermal drilling: rubber-lined crawler unit, drill carriage with
a pull-back force of 100 to 400 kN, double head, 3-fold clamping
and breaking device, blowout preventer, rod magazine, wireless
and wire remote control, flushing pumps, rope winch with winding
tower and oiler. In addition, we offer appropriate customized drilling
equipment in order to provide a complete drilling system from one
single source.
Applications
Geothermal drilling using the double-head drilling technique
in confined spaces
Appropriate for the most difficult geologies
Advantages
Risk-free heat exchanger installation by driving the casing down
to the final depth (ensured by high torque of up to 48,000 Nm)
Controlled discharge of cuttings via the limited annular space
between the outer and inner rods and optimized blowout
prevention equipment
Guaranteed heat exchanger verticality due to spot-on precision
drilling with counter-rotating inner and outer rods
Optimal adaptation of the drill system to the geology due to
the leading or trailing of the inner crown in relation to the outer
crown (400 mm relative displacement of the two drill gears)
Drilling possible in any geological conditions thanks to the inclusi-
on of the double-head drilling system in the rig's basic equipment
Thread-saving insertion and removal of the drilling rods via the
new floating shaft integrated in the drilling rig
Safe removal of the protective casing by means of drill carriage
with a pulling force of up to 400 kN
Avoidance of field damage by using rubber shoes
on the crawler tracks
Optimum handling of the machine by means of remote control
Two persons required for operation
