• Read Module 1, Topic 2: Writing Effective Course Objectives.
Assignments
• Introduce yourself on the “Getting Acquainted” discussion board forum.
• Evaluate the objectives of a sample online course.

Week 2

Monday, 12/7: Noon – 3:00 p.m., JTR 400


• Welcome: GianMario Besana
• Presentation: DOTS Alumni Show and Tell, Heather Sattler, Barbara Rieckhoff
• Presentation: Identifying Core Course Objectives, Sharon Guan
• Activity: Beginning Your Course Blueprint, Jean Bryan
• Training: Blackboard Basics – announcements, email, customizing course menu,
and discussion board features, Daniel Stanford
Assignments
• Read Module 2, Topic 1: Aligning Objectives, Assignments, and Resources.
• Complete course blueprint for one module. Assemble text, images, links, and
other resources for one module and bring to class on Tuesday.

Tuesday, 12/8: Noon – 3:00 p.m., JTR 400


• Training: Creating Items and Folders in Blackboard, Daniel Stanford
• Training: Building Learning Materials with SoftChalk, Melissa Koenig
• Discussion: Course Blueprints

• Read Module 3, Topic 4: Testing Tools and Identifying Questions.
• Prepare a list of any tools or concepts that you’re having trouble with or would
like to discuss further during Friday’s face-to-face meeting.

• Talk with your consultant about course planning and timeline.
