PART 1: GRAMMAR
THE FUTURE: WILL/WONT
We use WILL or the contracted form LL to talk about the future.
All subjects take the same form.
Use a verb after will.
The negative or WILL is WONT or WILL NOT. People usually say WONT.
You can use WILL to give facts (true information) about the future.
You can also use WILL to make predictions (guesses and opinions) about the future.
WILL and WONT mean you are 100% sure.

Dont use WILL/WONT to talk about plans and decisions you already made. Use Be
going to or the Present Continuous instead.

PART 4: SPEAKING NATURALLY
REDUCTION OF WILL
When we say a word+will, the two words sound like one word. We connect WILL with the previous
word, so we pronounce a reduced form of WILL LL:

1. Do you think your best friend will always live near you?
2. Do you think your teacher will be famous some day?
3. Do you think your parents will retire this year?
4. Do you think all your friends will keep in touch?

Pay attention to the underlined words/sentences from the text. They will help you

JOBS FOR THE FUTURE
(1) The world of jobs is changing, and it will change more in the next ten years. If you are
graduating from college or just looking for a new job, youll need information about jobs.

The big change is in jobs in technology and computers. This area will increase in the next ten
years, because we will all be online at home and at work. If you have a degree or certificate in
computer science, you wont have a problem finding a good job. (2) If you like this area, but you
dont have a degree, dont worry. A lot of companies will employ high school graduates with
good grades, and then train them to be computer specialists in-company.

(3) If you like the idea of general office work, you might have some problems. Computers
already do a lot of the work of receptionists and assistants. (4) But theres no problem with the
traditional jobs of plumbers, electricians, and carpenters. People will always need plumbers and
electricians when things go wrong in their homes! Youll need to study for a certificate, but there
are a lot of courses available.

Finally, if you want to be a doctor or a teacher, youre in luck. At the moment, fewer people are
taking these courses, but the number of jobs is the same. So, study hard, do well in school, and
youll be able to choose a job anywhere you want.
