1. On inside of cover sheet, measure and score a line from each edge.
2. Fold the 7.5 x 10.5 paper on the short edge (hamburger style) stopping
from oLher slde on Lhe llne, checklng Lo fold wlLh Lhe graln. ?ou can use a bone
folder Lo score your fold. MaLch on oLher slde Lo creaLe a splne ln Lhe mlddle.
3. Cut 1/2 x 7.5 copyweight paper and use a glue stick to attach to the inside
splne edge creaLed ln sLep 1. 1hls allows for a sLlffer splne and more durablllLy.
4. Copy-weight paper works well for a text block, cut at 7 x 9.5. Fold 8 pieces of
LexL block paper on Lhe shorL edge. SLack ln Lwo groups, 4 pleces ln each seL.
3. CreaLe a paLLern for Lhe blndlng holes uslng a manlla folder or slmllar maLerlal.
uslng an awl or push-pln, push Lhrough a mlddle hole, and one on each end
about 1.5 from paper edge on binding. Papercllp Lhe LexL blocks lnLo Lhe
approprlaLe secLlons of your cover.
6. uslng Lhe paLLern as a gulde, push awl or push-pln Lhrough Lo creaLe 3 holes ln
each LexL block ouL Lhrough Lhe splne. lL works besL Lo lay one-half of Lhe book
flaL, and Lhen push Lhe awl Lhrough so LhaL Lhe hole ls sLralghL.

7. Attach the signatures using a butterfly stitch. Cut two pieces of 12 sewing
floss, and lL ls helpful Lo use elLher a needle (or denLal floss Lhreader). SLarLlng
wlLh Lhe mlddle hole, pull Lhe Lhread Lhrough from lnslde Lo ouLslde (llg. 1).
Leave a 2-3 tail to tie at the end. Go in the next hole on either side (Fig. 2).
8. Sklp Lhe mlddle hole (llg. 3), and go back ouL Lhe flnal hole on Lhe oLher slde of
Lhe mlddle hole (llg. 4). Come back ln Lhe mlddle hole, and Lle uslng a slmple
knoL around Lhe long plece ln Lhe mlddle (llg. 3).
9. 8epeaL on Lhe oLher slde, and your book ls ready Lo be fllled by your greaL ldeas!
