Sac City man to serve as much as 37 years if given maximum sentence for sexual abuse

Sac City, Iowa - Christopher Walt Carnine, 35 of Sac City, Iowa has entered into an agreement with the
State of Iowa to plead guilty to 2 counts of sexual abuse 3rd degree - class "C" felonies, and 2 counts of
sexual abuse 2nd degree - class "B" felonies.

As a condition of the plea agreement, the State, represented by Sac County Attorney Ben Smith, agreed
to drop all other charges and to not pursue further charges against Carnine that could result from illicit
images allegedly seized from his personal computer during the investigation. Smith indicated that he
received a letter of assurance from the Federal government that they will also not pursue charges as a
result of the seizure of those same images.

This morning in the Sac County District Court Carnine admitted to touching the vagina of a 16 year old
girl with his bare hand without her consent, putting his penis into the vagina of a girl between the age of
8 and 15 without her consent, putting his penis into the vagina of a girl under the age of 12 without her
consent, and putting his penis into the mouth of a girl under the age of 12 without her consent.

When asked by Judge Kurt Wilke if he had anything he wanted to say, Carnine said simply, "I'm sorry."

As a condition of the plea agreement, Carnine has agreed to be sentenced for up to 20 years for the two
class "C" felonies to be served concurrently, and up to 50 years for the two class "B" felonies to be
served consecutively. If released, he may be on parole for as much as the rest of his life with a possible
life term for violating parole. For the purpose of sentencing only, Carnine agreed to stipulate to 100% of
the allegations in the minutes of testimony rather than have victims testify at the sentencing hearing.
Carnine may also be fined up to $10,000.

If given the maximum sentence, Carnine, age 35 will be eligible for parole in 37 years at age 72.

A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for July 14, 2014 in Sac County District Court at 9:30am.
