NEW ORLEANS, LA The board of the Greater New Orleans Republicans issued a statement encouraging the election of U.S. Representative Kevin McCarthy of California to the vacant post of Majority Leader in the Republican caucus of the U.S. House of Representatives and for the election of U.S. Representative Steve Scalise of Jefferson as Majority Whip in the event McCarthy is chosen Majority Leader.
"Young Republican leaders across the country know Kevin McCarthy from his time as chairman of the Young Republican National Federation and are aware of his coalition building skills, which will help advance the conservative agenda on Capitol Hill," said Michael Bayham, Chairman of the Greater New Orleans Republicans.
"Steve Scalise has been a conservative champion as a legislator and as a member of Congress," said Bayham. "Steve took the lead role in pro-second amendment legislation up in Baton Rouge and could always be counted on to support policies that would expand economic opportunities for people across the state."
"The Republican caucus in the US House of Representatives would greatly benefit from the elevation of young Republican leaders such as McCarthy and Scalise to higher leadership positions," added Andy Dupre, President of GNOR.

While a relatively new member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, Steve Scalise passed legislation negating the Mayor Morial suit against gun manufacturers and sellers, saving my familys half-a-century-old sporting goods store from years of frivolous litigation. Steve is able to take an issue, move it forward, and pass meaningful legislation that actually changes policy. He can not only discuss issues rhetorically, he can be effective in enacting legislation that improves the lives of real people.

Steve was not only a great boss but a great friend. He treats everyone from the Governor to the mailman the same: with respect. He is an extremely hard worker and is someone who genuinely wants to improve the lives of the people he serves. Steve is the best choice for Majority Whip.

"As a Veteran of over 27 years in the United States Marine Corps, I could not be more excited than to hear that one of our greatest advocates has the opportunity for leadership in the House of Representatives. Congressman Scalise has been there for the military, veterans and the local military presence since his time in the state legislature. His efforts to promote the Marine Corps presence in New Orleans has been superb. He is a LEADER. He is out front. We need real leaders more now than ever. May the members of the Republican Caucus seize the opportunity to lead and do so with a proven leader. Out front, in the fight, representing his district and the nation."
-Col. P. B. Deckert (Ret.) New Orleans, LA
In his current role as the chair of the Republican Study Committee, the House's largest conservative caucus, Congressman Scalise stands uniquely suited to serve as a bridge between House Members possessing different ideologies and serve the caucus as an excellent whip.
-John W. Tobler, CPP Jefferson Transit Advisory Board Jefferson Economic Development and Port Commissioner
Steve Scalise has always been true to the Bruneau family, our neighborhoods, the greater New Orleans region, the Gulf Coast, and the United States of America. No matter what the situation his conservative, pragmatic, no nonsense approach has served us well. He will be a great leader for us all. #ScaliseForWhip! Geaux Scalise!!!
