URINE PROBLEMS
HYDROHere are hydrotherapy treatments for several different urine difficulties. This brief
summary is taken from the author's book, Water Therapy Manual (see book store), which will
provide many more details on how to give the treatments:
Albumin in urine (Albuminuria): Hot Blanket Pack and other sweating measures to maintain
cutaneous activity, repeated every !" hours (p. 233).
n!ontinen!e: Percussion #ouche to spine, $eutral %it& Bath, '(!)* minutes (p. 2"#).
Urine too a!i$: +ree use of fruit and water drinking in the forenoon (p 2%#).
Urinary suppression: Hot Blanket Pack, followed by #ry %weating Pack (p. 21&).

ENCOURAGEMENTThe one who had revolted in heaven offered 2hrist the kingdoms of
this world, to buy homage to the principles of evil, but He would not be bought. 3hen %atan
comes to you, answer him, 45t is written46 and, in 2hrist's strength, stand true for 7od.
URINE RETENTION
SYMPTOMS+low of urine is lessening. 7reat pain is felt in the bladder, and the odor of urine
is on the body. 8lmost total suppression can produce e9treme pain in the back and bladder, and
even convulsions. There is always a great desire to urinate.
CAUSESThere can be a blockage of some type. %ee 1idney Problems, Bladder Problems, and
other topics in this :rinary section.
:rine retention is generally caused by inflammation and swelling in the bladder and its outlet.
;9cess urine in it causes the bladder to enlarge, and can cause great pain.
TREATMENT
< Poor urine (lo): Take a cold sit& bath .cold partial bath, as you sit in the bathtub/. %top using
salt. #rink =uarts a day of (*!(* orange >uice and water.
< 8lternate method: Take a hot sit& bath repeatedly, followed by a short cold bath. 5f bedridden,
apply hot, followed by short cold, over bladder, genital area, and entire length of spine.
< 7ive a high enema of catnip tea. This is important in helping the urine to again begin flowing.
< #rink more water and take herbs which increase urine flow. 2orn!silk tea is the best6 others
include >uniper berries, carrot tops, comfrey, plantain, cleavers, chickweed.
< 5nsert a soft catheter and draw out the urine. %teep the following in a =uart of boiling water: '
tsp. goldenseal and a half tsp. each of boric acid and myrrh. %train through a fine cloth, and in>ect
through a fountain syringe. ,etain as long as possible. ?ou can moisten the tip with slippery elm
tea. %lipper elm is slippery@
< 8 cold shower often helps.
< *toppe$ urine (lo): 8lmost total urine suppression generally points to the kidneys as the
problem.
< Put the person to bed6 give him a very warm high enema of catnip tea. This will bring great
relief. 8lso apply hot fomentations, wrung out of smartweed tea, to the bladder and lumbar
region .small of back/. 7ive !) hot sit& baths in a bathtub, each day.
< 8n especially helpful remedy is a strong, hot as can be taken, tea of catnip, given as an enema.
#rink it freely.
+Also see the ki$ney an$ bla$$er $iseases in this Urinary se!tion.
ENCOURAGEMENT2hrist's victory over %atan was as complete as had been 8dam's
failure. %o we may resist temptation and force %atan to depart from us. 5t is in totally yielding
ourselves to 7od that, in His strength, we can have power to resist the devil and come off more
than con=uerors.
INCONTINENCE1 (Urinary Stress Incontinence)
SYMPTOMSAccasional dribbling. 8n involuntary loss of urine, in very small amounts,
accompanies coughing, snee&ing, laughing, walking, running, lifting, or any sudden shock or
strain.
CAUSES5ncontinence tends to occur in women more than men, although older men may also
have it.
8 wide variety of causes can be involvedBincluding food allergies, hypoglycemia, multiple
dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, cancer, stroke, in>uries, and surgical damage.
Ather causes include repeated births, poor pelvic floor tone, damage to pelvic floor by the
physician at time of delivery, failure to do prenatal and postnatal e9ercises, visceroptosis,
overweight, and poor abdominal tone.
5t may follow a prolonged labor during childbirth, resulting from the stretching of the pelvic
floor. 5f postpartum e9ercises are not done, this problem, which may disappear for years, may
later return.
5ncontinence is far less likely in the nullipara .women who have never delivered a child/.
TREATMENT
< The best pelvic floor e9ercises are variations of the 1egel e9ercise, and should begin early in
pregnancy or before, and continue on to at least ) months after childbirth. These e9ercises
strengthen certain muscles.
< %low urine flow and eventually stop it. #oing this helps you recogni&e the muscles involved.
Cater, practice stopping urine flow, hold for '! seconds, and repeat -!0 times as you urinate.
?ou should eventually be able to stop urine flow completely with no leakage. Cearn to slowly
rela9 pelvic floor muscles in stages from full contraction to full rela9ation.
< Practice tightening these muscles at various other times during the day. ,epeat -!0 times each
session and (*!'** times a day. Hold each contraction for !( seconds, then rela9.
< 3hen doing these e9ercises, do not hold your breath. Bear down6 that is, push down on the
pelvic floor or contract the buttocks, inner thighs, or abdominal muscles. 3hen beginning, do not
e9haust the pelvic muscles. 3henever contractions weaken, discontinue at that time. Build
muscle strength slowly6 there is no rush.
< 8void alcohol, caffeine, tobacco, and grapefruit >uice.
< :se cranberry >uice instead.
< ,educe general fluid intake, but not too much.
< 8void constipation.
< Cose weight.
< 7o when you have to6 do not wait, or you weaken bladder control.
< #ouble voiding is helpful: 8fter voiding, stand up and sit down again. Cean forward slightly at
the knees and try again.

#EMATURIA (B%oo- in Urine)
SYMPTOMSBlood appears in the urine. Blood in the urine shows a smoky sediment, and is
reddish brown. :rine may be slightly smoky, reddish, or very red.
CAUSES,ed, or reddish, urine may be due to blood in the urine, known as hematuria, and to
senna or rhubarb, which may color the urine either brown or orange.
5f the blood is well!mi9ed with the urine, it is probably from the kidneys. 5f it is clotted in tubular
casts of ureters, it is from kidneys or ureters. 5f its is passed at the beginning of urination, it is
from the urethra6 if at the end, it is from the bladder.
Bleeding from the kidneys produces smoky urine, which may be bright red. Bleeding from the
urethra is always bright red, and precedes urination. Bleeding from the urine vesicle produces
bright red urine, which is not uniform.
Ather causes of blood in urine can be a lesion of the urinary tract, contamination during
menstruation, prostatic disease, tumors, poisoning .especially carbolic acid and cantharides/,
malaria, to9emias, and calculus .kidney stones/.
TREATMENT
< 8pply a very cold water spray to the perineum.

he has 7od's help.

$I(NEY PROBLEMS
PROBLEMS AN( CAUSES5n addition to other conditions mentioned in this section on the
kidneys, there are less known diseases which can be >ust as serious. These include:
1enal tubular a!i$osis: The kidneys fail to reabsorb bicarbonate properly, resulting in
inade=uate ammonia production and acid e9cretion. This leads to a severe lack of fluid and
potassium in the body, and an e9cess of acidity. The bones can become deranged.
2y$ronephrosis: The kidneys and bladder become filled with urine, due to obstruction of the
flow.
3lomerulonephritis: This is an inflammation of the tiny kidney filtering units, sometimes
resulting from a bacterial infection in the body.
Uremia: 8 to9ic waste buildup in the blood, due to kidney malfunction.
5n all of these conditions, a basic need is to cleanse the kidneys, increase urine flow, and restore
proper function.
TREATMENT
< ;at E(F raw foods, including garlic, parsley, potatoes, celery, cucumbers, and bananas. 7reen
vegetables are especially important.
< %top eating meat. 8n e9cess of protein is part of your problem6 and meat also has a variety of
waste products, plus bacteria, purines, and uric acid.
< 8void dairy products, e9cept yogurt. #o not eat chocolate or cocoa.
< #rink -!0 ounces of distilled water every hour.
< 3atermelon and pumpkin seeds seem to help the kidneys, although the reason is not known.
< 2orn!silk tea is the best single herb for increasing urine flow and restoring the kidneys.
3atermelon!seed tea and celery and parsley seeds are also diuretic in function.
< 2ranberries help acidify the urine, destroy bacteria, and restore the bladder.
< #o not eat much potassium or phosphorous. +or this reason, avoid beet greens, spinach,
rhubarb, and %wiss chard.
< Cead, other metals, the pain relieving drugs .8dvil, $uprin, etc./, and infectious diseases
.scarlet fever, measles, etc./ can damage the kidneys. %pirulina is known to reduce kidney
poisoning that is caused by mercury and drugs.
ENCOURAGEMENTAnly to those who receive 2hrist as their %aviour is given the power to
become sons and daughters of 7od. The sinner cannot, by any power of his own, rid himself of
sin. But 2hrist can give the needed strength to come off victor in the battle with %atan.
$I(NEY STONES1 (Ne./roca%cinosis)
SYMPTOMS5ntermittent, dull, dragging pain radiating from the upper back to the lower
abdomen, usually increased by motion.
There is bleeding and renal colic .strong kidney pain/ when the stone enters the ureters. These
sharp pains may last hours or days. There is increased urination with pus and blood, pallor,
nausea, and vomiting. %ometimes there are fever and chills.
3hen you have bloody urine and sharp pain in the bladder or kidneys, it is very likely kidney
stones.
CAUSES1idney stones .also called bladder stones or cystic calculi/ are an abnormal
accumulations of mineral salts. They form in the kidneys and, during passage down the ureters,
may lodge in them or in the bladder. The stones are primarily composed of calcium o9alate6 but
urates, phosphates, and cystine may also be present.
Addly enough, a key factor in the production of kidney stones is a calcium andGor magnesium
deficiency. The minerals in the stones come from your own bones@
,efined carbohydrates, especially sugar, prompts kidney stone formation. The sugar increases in
the pancreas and e9cretes additional insulin, which in turn causes the kidneys to discharge more
calcium in the urine.
2alcium is needed by the body. 5f not enough calcium is in the diet, the parathyroids will signal
the body to e9tract calcium from the bones in order to keep the blood calcium level at normal
levels.
8 vitamin B
-
and magnesium deficiency may also cause stone formation. 8 %wedish research
group found that taking both daily stopped stone formation in H*F of their patients. Dagnesium,
like calcium, can bond with the o9alate. B
-
.'* mg a day/ lowers the amount of o9alate in the
urine.
5n response to lowered blood calcium levels, the parathyroids trigger the body to draw it out of
the bones.
5t is vital that you obtain a balanced diet of vitamins and minerals every day.
Partial causes of kidney stone formation can include dehydration .not drinking enough water/,
infections, prolonged periods of rest in bed, and only rarely taking vitamin # and calcium.
Too much food, including acid!forming foodsBespecially meat, along with white!flour
products, sugar foods, tea, coffee, spices, and vinegarBall help produce an e9cess of waste in the
kidneys. ;ventually it accumulates into gravel and stones.
TREATMENT
< 5t is vital that you increase the amount of water you drink@ 1idney health is keyed to an
ade=uate fluid level in the blood. Anly use distilled water.
< :sed in con>unction with more fluid intake, corn!silk tea increases urine output, a very
necessary factor in purifying and deto9ifying the kidneys.
< 3atermelon provides additional water. ;at it alone and often, but do not eat it with other foods
during meals.
< 8 lack of vitamin 8 can lead to stone formation. 5t helps protect the lining of the urinary tract.
< 8 more acid urine prevents and dissolves kidney stones. #rink cranberry >uice fre=uently. .Ane
writer says that Acean %pray brand is only )*F cranberry >uice, plus sugar, etc./ 8ll other fruit
>uices become alkaline in the system. #o not put vinegar into the body.
< ;at potassium broth. This is made from thick potato peelings. 2ook it with carrots, garlic, and
celery. %immer for )*!"* minutes, then strain and drink the li=uid. ;9cess can be stored in the
refrigerator for no more than days.
< A9alate, a key chemical in kidney stone formation, occurs naturally in various green
vegetables6 some more than others. ,hubarb has the highest o9alic acid content of anything eaten
by man. 8lso do not eat spinach, chard, or beet tops. 8bout -*F of all stones are calcium o9alate
in nature.
< #rink watermelon!seed tea6 steep in hot water for '( minutes, strain, add a little honey and
drink.
< There may be an e9cess of purines. %top eating meat. Deat!based proteins are a causal factor in
producing kidney stones. #o not overeat on other proteins.
< #o not use soft drinks, caffeine, chocolate, cocoa, pepper, nuts, poppy seeds, or black tea.
< ,educe salt intake.
< 8 strict macrobiotic diet .lots of grains and little fruits and vegetables/ tends to concentrate the
urine and may cause stones. But this is not a primary cause of them.
< Take licorice, to reduce swelling of the ureters, so the stone can pass. 2alcium and magnesium
are crucial to stop the calcium loss from the bones. ;at less meat to get your
calciumGphosphorous ratio in order .meat is full of phosphorous/.
< The following herbs are helpful: dandelion, rupturewort, and madder.
< To dissolve kidney stones, drink hot water and lemon >uice. +ollow with olive oil. +or the
complete formula for this, see 43allstones.4

NEP#RITIS1 ($i-ney In5ection)
SYMPTOMSThere may be no symptoms or they may include blood andGor albumin in the
urine and lower back, abdominal pain, even chills, fatigue, edema, nausea and vomiting, fre=uent
urge to urinate, and loss of appetite. %evere cases may include anemia and high blood pressure.
CAUSESThis is inflammation of one or both kidneys. Thousands of tiny cells in the kidneys
filter fluids out of the blood in order to purify it. But the filter can become plugged with to9ins
and mucous. 3hen these tiny cells become swollen and inflamed, infection soon follows.
This infection can be acute or chronic, and may re=uire hospitali&ation.
2onstipation causes a to9ic matter to be reabsorbed by the blood. This clogs the kidneys.
Averuse of aspirin and other pain killers weaken the kidneys6 beer can cause their failure.
;nvironmental to9ins, such as heavy metals, add to the damage. 8nti!hypertensive drugs are
used to reduce blood circulation, and therefore in>ure the kidneys.
1idney infection can also be caused by bacterial infection in the bladder .cystitis, which see/
which has traveled up the ureters to the kidneys.
TREATMENT
< #rink plenty of pure water. 8void coffee, alcohol, and artificial drinks.
< #rinking unsweetened cranberry >uice and apple >uice helps reduce bacterial growth in the
kidneys.
< 2arrot, celery, and parsley >uice is also helpful.
< ;at nourishing food, and avoid processed and >unk food.
< 5nclude enough vitamins 2, 8, and B comple9 in the diet. Potassium deficiencies can
encourage kidney problems.
< 7o on a )!day cleansing water!and!>uice fast. Take enemas and rest. 1eep the fluid level high.
< Helpful herbs include garlic, echinacea, burdock, red clover, and goldenseal. 8lso of value:
>uniper berries, parsley, and watermelon!seed tea. Buchu tea and marshmallow tea are most
helpful.
< :sed in con>unction with more fluid intake, corn!silk tea has been used for hundreds of years to
increase urine output, a very necessary factor in purifying and deto9ifying the kidneys.

SYMPTOMS+ever, chills, urgency and fre=uency of urination, loss of appetite, nausea, and
vomiting. The urine is cloudy from pus, and often bloody. Pain may be intense and sudden in the
lower back, >ust above the waist, and running down the groin. 8n e9cessive amount of blood
protein in the urine is a marked symptom of Bright's disease. 5t is usually accompanied by
hypertension and edema, which is retention of water in the tissues.
CAUSESBright's disease involves a chronic inflammation of the kidneys .nephritis6 which
see/, but it is uni=ue in the following respect: The kidneys cannot properly e9crete salt and other
wastes. The result is that salt and various wastes are stored by the blood in tissues throughout the
body. This produces tissue swellings, edema, and high blood pressure. Blood and protein are also
in the urine in e9cessive amounts.
7radually the blood itself becomes contaminated with these waste produces, and uremia .uremic
poisoning/ is the result.
2onsuming alcohol, tea, coffee, and spices are e9cellent ways to ruin your kidneys. #o not use

CYSTITIS1 (B%a--er an- Urinary Tract In5ection)
SYMPTOMSPain in the lower abdomen and back6 fre=uent, urgent, and painful urination.
:rine often has a strong, unpleasant odor and may appear cloudy .from pus/. 8 desire to urinate
even after the bladder has been emptied.
2hildren with this condition may e9perience a painful burning sensation when urinating.
CAUSES2ystitis is an infection of the urinary bladder. 5t is the most fre=uent bacterial
infection in women. 8bout '*!'(F of them have recurrent bladder infections.
The cause is generally bacteria which have ascended up from the urinary opening, but, less
fre=uently, from infected urine sent down from the kidneys.
The usual cause is ascended bacteria, and cystitis most often occurs in females. The urinary
outlet of the urethra is close to the vagina. 3ays to avoid cross infection between the two are
given in the concluding paragraph of this article.
+re=uency, urgency, and burning urine are obvious symptoms of cystitis, but a home test can be
also be done: Purchase 4#ipstick4 at a pharmacy and follow directions. 8 positive nitrate test
will reveal the presence of a large =uantity of white blood cells, indicating infection in the
urinary tract.
3omen who fre=uently have bladder infections often have enlarged bladders from having tried
to retain their urine. 5n order to maintain good urinary tract health, it is important to drink water
and urinate fre=uently.
5n older men, the cause of the bladder problem might be kidney stones .which see/.
Blood in the urine could indicate a more serious problem. 2onsult a physician. .8lso see
42ematuria4/.
Bladder infection in men may signal prostate trouble.
2yclamate .an artificial sweetener found in synthetic sugar/ causes bladder tumors.
TREATMENT
< 5ncrease the fluid intakeBlots of water, especially distilled, is best. #rink a half pint every *
minutes for ) hours, then one cup every hour. This is important.
< 8lso drink cranberry >uice. 3hen you have this problem, citrus >uice is not as good, since it
tends to make the urine more alkaline, encouraging bacterial growth.
< ;at a nourishing diet6 avoid the wrong foods. %ee 4'ephritis4 .kidney infection/ for much more
information on the proper care and healing of the urinary tract. The bladder and kidneys are
closely associated6 whatever helps one helps the other.
< 8cidify the urine by drinking '! =uarts of cranberry >uice per day, for the first day, and ' =uart
a day thereafter while the crisis continues.
< Helpful herbs include >uniper, lovage, parsley, uva ursi, rupturewort, bearberry, birch, and
prickly restharrow. Af course, do not add sweetener or milk to the tea.
< #rink tea made from !) crushed or blended garlic bulbs several times a day.
< The use of aluminum cookware is another cause of cystic symptoms. 8void &inc and iron
supplements until this problem is healed.
< Potassium deficiencies can lead to renal .kidney/ disorders.
< To relieve the pain and encourage healing, take hot sit& .sitting/ baths twice a day, for *
minutes. To one of those daily sit& baths, add ' cup of vinegar. The ne9t day, add cloves
crushed garlic or garlic >uice to the water of one of the two baths.
< 8 hot water bottle placed in direct contact to the urethral and vaginal openings may be
e9tremely helpful in reducing pain. 8 heat lamp can also be used.
< 3omen should especially avoid bacterial infection ascending into the bladder: The urinary
outlet of the urethra is close to the vagina. 3hen se9ual intercourse is not done with clean hands
or too fre=uently, germs are more likely to enter the urethra. 3ipe from front to back following
bowel movements, urinate before and after intercourse, and wear cotton underclothing .it lets air
through and absorbs moisture better/. 8void douches, hygiene sprays, bubble baths, soap in the
bath water, and nylon clothing. 3ash carefully during the monthly, to avoid bacteria from going
up the urethra. #o not use tampons if there are fre=uent urinary tract infections. ,inse underwear
well, to get all the soap out. Boil panties in plain water. %hower after bathing in a swimming
pool. #ress to keep the e9tremities warm6 cold e9tremities weaken the trunk organs, including
the urinary tract. Birth control pills and spermaticides may cause cystitis.

E(EMA ((ro.sy)
SYMPTOMS%welling of the hands, ankles, feet, face, abdomen, or other areas of the body.
%welling is most often seen in the hands, in the feet, or around the eyes. The bloating or swelling
causes muscle aches and pains.
CAUSES;dema is a fluid accumulation in the body. 5t can be caused by poor kidney function,
chronic kidney disease, congestive heart disease, varicose veins, phlebitis, protein or thiamine
deficiency, sodium retention, or cancer.
Ather causal factors include pregnancy, standing for long periods of time6 premenstrual tension6
the use of oral contraceptives6 a confining in>ury, such as a sprain, allergic reactions, or a bee
sting.
3hen the skin indents, forming little pits, when the skin of the feet or ankles is pressed by a
finger, the situation is worsening. 2ontact a physician.
+luid retention is sometimes caused by a food allergy. Hypothyroidism, anemia, adrenal
malfunction, constipation, and lack of e9ercise can be causal factors, along with deficiencies of
potassium, vitamin B comple9, or vitamins B
'
, B
)
, or B
-
.
8s soon as edema is found to e9ist, it is well to obtain a clear diagnosis. Ance congestive heart
disease, kidney disease, or liver disease are ruled out, more subtle causes can be dealt with more
easily.
TREATMENT
< 5f edema is caused by heart disease, then turn to that section. 5f it is caused by kidney failure or
other causes, then read the following.
< 5f it is the result of protein or thiamine deficiency, the intake of either or both should be
increased. +luid can be retained in the belly cavity because the protein content of the blood is so
low that fluid cannot be kept in the blood vessels.
< 5f e9cess salt in the diet is the problem, then a very restricted salt diet should be adhered to.
.Too much salt retained by the body re=uires additional water to keep the salt diluted, so it will
not damage living tissue./
< 2arry out a regular daily e9ercise program, out!of!doors. Poor circulation because of liver or
heart disease is a common cause of edema. 3hen at rest, elevate the legs. 8void tight clothing,
and do not cross the legs. Take hot baths twice a week. 8void stress. %top eating meat. ;at more
fruits and vegetables, emphasi&ing the raw foods.
< 8void processed and >unk foods.
< 5ncreasing the vitamin B
-
intake will reduce the amount of fluid retention.
< Take the pulse test, to determine certain foods which do not agree with you. Then avoid those
foods.
< 8 '!) day >uice fast will be helpful. But if a protein deficiency is the problem, then nutrition is
needed, not cleansing.
< Helpful herbs include corn silk, dandelion, %cotch broom, alfalfa, 2anadian fleabane, garlic,
;nglish hawthorn, >uniper berries, lily of the valley, parsley, nettle, marshmallow, pau d'arco,
and prickly restharrow.
