Birds as Omens
When you learn to listen to nature's language, you start to hear and see things in
a totally different light. Nature has messages for us, just as our spirit guides,
ancestors, and gods have messages for us. It's just whether we choose to listen
or not.
In this particular article, we will learn how to look at birds as omens and signs
and how to listen to the messages that they bring to us. We will examine the bird
in the house omen, black bird omen, and if there is a bird of ill omen or do all
birds bring good news
!or many centuries, our ancestors looked to nature to bring them important
information on their health, love, prosperity, and more. "any of our ancestors
relied heavily on the messages that birds brought to them, including Native
#mericans, the $elts, and many more cultures. Why not use the same methods
of our ancestors and listen to what nature has to say to us %irds as omens and
signs is not an unnatural concept...nor is it evil.
Black Bird Omen - Crows, Ravens, and Black Birds
&here is a misconception of black birds in much of Western society. Why is this
Is it simply because black birds are black and the color black seems to be
associated with evil 'r is it due to many years of stereotyping the crow or
blackbird to be a witch's familiar (ither way, the black bird omen seems to be
one that sticks out in many people's minds when hearing the words )birds as
omens).
I have to disagree and state that this black bird omen being an ill omen is an
incorrect thought. (ven the Native #merican medicine man %obby *ake &hom
who wrote )+pirits of the (arth) states that the black bird always has a message
to bring, and it usually is not an ill omen. While the crow or black bird can play
the trickster, they are usually benevolent and bring news of good passage and
protection. &he black bird omen is one of fear and is not based in experience or
fact.
&he video to the right is one that I took of a black bird ,I believe it's a -aven,
others tell me it's not. fighting off an attacking blue jay. I took this as a good sign
and not a black bird omen. I had a great day and an even better week that week
that I saw this huge black bird cross my path. I also immediately associated this
black bird omen ,albeit a good omen. with the god %ran and the goddess
"aeve...two deities that had been trying to get my attention for /uite some time.

A Bird of Ill Omen
#s much as I love and adore birds in the wild, is there such thing as a bird of ill
omen I absolutely hate admitting this fact, but I have to because it is something
that I've experienced personally and have read in medicine men's writings. &he

big fan of owls...I find them to be beautiful and majestic creatures. 0owever,
every time my owl familiar has shown up at my home has been within a week of
one of my neighbors dying...so in my personal experience the owl ,no matter how
lovely. has been a bird of ill omen in the aspect of bringing news of an impending
death.
Now, you may find that the owl brings good news to you on a personal level. &he
messages that birds as omens and signs bring can vary from person to person.
&here are some Native medicine men that say that the owl can be used by evil
forces in which to spy on you or perform other evil tasks...I don't know if I can
agree with this thought process or not. While the owl can be a bird of ill omen, I
just can't bring myself to think that the cute little screeching owl ,my familiar. is
ready to peck my eyes out at the next given chance. +o, you have to experience
and listen to nature's messages for yourself and make your own interpretations.
# bird of ill omen to me could be a bird of luck to you1

Bird Flew Into the %indow, Bird Follows &e Home, and Other 'igns
+ome people often wonder if certain actions by birds mean certain things. In my
experience and opinion, they often can have certain meaning to your life. %irds
were known as messengers to the gods and to the other side and they were said
to bring messages to us from the other side. 0ere are some common bird omens
and signs and their potential messages=
Bird Flew Into the %indow 3 a bird flies into your car or house window and is
knocked unconscious. +ometimes the bird might die from hitting so hard. &his is
typically an omen that you believe you are getting somewhere in life but will hit a
wall soon. %ut don't worry, another window of opportunity will open. It can also be
a sign that family turmoil is in store for the near future.
Bird Follows &e Home 3 this is not necessarily a sign as an indication that this
particular bird would like to be your friend. &his particular bird that follows you
home might actually be what we call your )spirit guide) or )totem). &hese birds
can be anything from a crow to a pigeon. -esearch the mythology behind
whatever bird is following you home and be open to the fact that this bird might
be your guardian of one kind or another.
(ead "ird in the !ard or on the highwa! - if you've seen a dead bird in the
road or perhaps you accidentally hit a bird on the road, this usually feels like a
bad sign. #ctually death is typically a good sign showing us that an end to turmoil
or pain is ending. &his doesn't necessarily mean physical death, just a
metaphorical death. ?erhaps you're going through heartache of a break3up,
perhaps you are struggling to find a job...this dead bird marks the end to your
search and struggle. # new beginning is just around the corner.
