KOSUN drilling mud desander is used as the 2nd stage of drilling solids control system, for

Drilling mud desanders are installed on top of the mud tank following the shale shaker and the
degassing machine, but before the desilter. Desander removes the abrasive solids from the
drilling fluids which cannot be removed by shale shakers. Normally the solids diameter for
desander to be separated would be 45~74m, and 15~44m for desilter.
Hydrocyclone in drilling mud desander and desilter
A hydrocyclone is often used to separate drilling cuttings from drilling mud originating in drilling
mud desander and desilter. A hydrocyclone is most likely to be the right choice for processes
where lights (drilling fluids, e.g.) are the greater part of the mixture and where the heavies
(drilling cuttings e.g.) settle fairly easily.

Centrifugal pump is used to pump the drilling fluids from mud tank into the set of hydrocyclones.
A hydrocyclone has two exits on the axis: the smaller on the bottom (underflow or reject) and
larger at the top (overflow or accept). The underflow is generally the denser or thicker fraction,
while the overflow is the lighter or more fluid fraction.
