USA Boxing celebrates Olympic Day with Meet-n-Greet Festival in Henry County
Event one of 700+ nationwide events celebrating the birth of the modern Olympic Games
STOCKBRIDGE, GA In celebration of the International Olympic Committee (IOC)s Olympic Day, USA Boxing s Georgia Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) which is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization is hosting its third annual community festival. GABAs celebration is free to attend with festivities from 11 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 21 st at the J.P. Moseley Park and Recreation Center, 1041 Millers Mill Rd., Stockbridge, Ga. 30281.
Olympic Day is held annually and is celebrated by thousands of people in more than 160 countries. Thanks to the continued support of the Henry County Parks and Recreation Department, including that of McDonoughs Mayor Billy Copeland who was involved in the Official Atlanta Olympic Games Torch Relay when it passed through Henry County in 1996, the United States Olympic Committee will recognize a Henry County city as the official host site of an Olympic Day event for a third consecutive year with Stockbridge serving as host for a second year.
Uniquely, local talents have always been a key part of the success of Henry County Olympic Day, with their efforts producing a 100% community-sponsored and volunteer-driven part of an artistically- inclined international effort to promote fitness and well-being. GABA invites families and friends to participate in interactive family-friendly activities including posing for a shot in GABAs Official Olympic Day Host City Community Photo for the United States Olympic Committee, walking the red carpet, mingling with Olympic Hopefuls and elite athletes, a hands-and-mitts boxing demonstration, and more. The day prior to GABAs Olympic Day event on June 21st, a special Building Understanding (BUDS) Olympic Day presentation will be made at the Kiwanis Club luncheon in Atlanta, Ga., Friday, June 20 th . The Kiwanis Club meets weekly from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. in Fifield Hall at the First Presbyterian Church.
On June 21 st , a spirited panel of youth and adult speakers will discuss the IOCs Culture and Olympic Education Commission statement: "To reach the pinnacle of success at the Olympic or Paralympic Games, to succeed in life, or to reach ones goals, one must persevere. Perseverance is the determination to keep going when you feel like giving up." Speaking up about facing challenges will be former WBC FECARBOX Welterweight Champion Xavier "The X-Man" Toliver, former WBF/IBC/NABF/NABA USA Heavyweight Champion Michael Grant, and Atlantas Club Havana Nightclub Professional Conga Percussionist Deshone Williams; all of whom are actively involved as mentors and Coaches with USA Boxing.
