Course description:

This course is ideal if you would like to develop a career


in working with children and need a starting point. Our
experienced tutors will teach you how to help early years
professionals in supporting children with their learning and
how to maintain a safe and interesting environment.
The course is available in locations across the Bradford
District. Please see below for some of the centres, this
is not the full list so call us on 01274 327327 or check our

Entry requirements:
There are no formal entry requirements for this course.
However, you will need good literacy skills, therefore, we
will assess them before you start. If necessary you will be
referred to a class to improve your literacy before you can
move onto this course. Please attend one of our open/
enrolment days for advice and guidance.
Length of course and time commitment
per week:
Community/Childrens Centres
The course runs for 18 weeks.
Classes are 2 1/4 hours long. Depending on where you
study there are 2 options on the time of your class, either
9.15-11.30am or 12.45-3pm.
Shipley College
The course runs for 5 weeks and you will attend college
2 days a week.
Classes are on Wednesday & Friday from 9.30am-2pm.
Please note: You will need to plan to spend at least as
much time studying at home as you do in class.
What you will do:
The course will include an initial assessment in English
and Maths and the discussion will cover some aspects of
Child Protection.
You will also study 4 units, these are:

Communicating with children

Healthy eating

Keeping children safe

Self assessment
Benets of the course:
On this course you will learn the skills needed to start
a career in childcare. As well as gaining a qualication
you could grow in condence and use this course as a
stepping stone to further training.

Assessment:
There are no examinations. This course is assessed
through completing written tasks.
What you can do after this course:
After successfully completing this course, you may wish
to progress onto the Level 2 Certicate in Childrens and
Young Peoples Workforce. Please be aware you will need
to have recently completed 200 hours of work experience.
Any extra costs:
A fee reduction may apply to you, see below. You will
need stationery such as paper, pens and perhaps a le for
your work.
You may also need a small amount of money for
recommended text books and dictionaries to help you with
your study.
There may be nancial support available to help you.

Learner Support Fund
If you are a student aged 19 or over you may be eligible to get
help with the costs of exam fees, equipment and travel through
the Learner Support Fund. This is a limited fund for certain
courses so early application is advised. For more information on
whether you are eligible for learner support or if you would like to

Childcare support
If you are a parent or carer, support with the cost of childcare
may be available to help you study. For more information, contact
