Opera Mini

The full Web on almost any phone
Opera Mini is a full, Java-based Web browser that allows
users to access the full Web on mobile phones that would
normally be incapable of running a Web browser. This
includes the vast majority of todays 700 million Java-
enabled phones. A remote server pre-processes the Web
pages before sending them to the phone. This makes Opera
Mini perfect for phones with limited resources, or low
bandwidth connections.
OPERATORS can ofer the same operator-branded Web experience to all
their customers regardless of the handset being used. This can signifcantly
drive ARPU across the entire customer base through increased data trafc
and usage of paid services.
CONTENT PROVIDERS can ofer advanced Web-based services directly to
end-users in the mass-market.
HANDSET MANUFACTURERS can make their low- and mid-range Java-
enabled phones more attractive to operators and end-users by enabling full
Web access on these devices.
END USERS can use their current handsets to access the Web at high
speeds and low costs because Opera Mini compresses Web pages by up to
80 percent.
AVAILABILITY Opera Mini is available to end-users worldwide from
http://mini.opera.com
Opera Software ofers customized versions of Opera Mini to mobile phone
operators, handset manufacturers and other companies interested in ofering
a branded, full mobile Web browser to their customers.

How Opera Mini works
Opera Mini is a Java-based (J2ME) browser solution where the full Opera browser is running on a remotely located
Opera Mini server rather than on the handset itself. The handset only needs to run a small (50-100 KB) Java client
to access the full Web. When a user requests a Web page, it is fetched by the Opera Mini server, reformatted with
Operas Small-Screen Rendering technology, compressed 70-80 percent and sent to the handset.
How is Opera Mini diferent from Opera Mobile
Opera Mobile

runs on the handset, rather than on a server, and is a full-fedged, standards-compliant and powerful
Web browser. Opera Mini

, on the other hand, is a client-server solution, providing an optimal Web browsing

experience on low- and mid-tier Java-enabled devices that are incapable of running the full Opera Mobile browser.
