Exams*: Students must take three exams throughout the semester in order to pass the course.
The fourth and final exam will be optional. NO make-up exams will be given in this class,
except under extenuating circumstances (lack of preparation or illness without medical
documentation does not qualify for a make-up exam). Students will have the ability to make-up
an exam (or boost their grade) by taking an optional final during the allotted final. However, the
final exam will be cumulative and much longer than the first three exams and therefore students
should aim to take all three of the non-cumulative exams. If students opt to take all four exams,
the lowest grade will be dropped.

Homework Assignments: You will be required to complete small assignments on weekly or
biweekly basis. These assignments are intended to help develop critical thinking skills and
provide the opportunity to apply these skills in assessing the theories and content covered
throughout the course on current issues in the field and to the students own life experiences.
While you are encouraged to reflect on your own life experiences and share them, you are under
no obligation to disclose any information that would make you uncomfortable or would be
embarrassing. These assignments will be posted on Blackboard and it is your responsibility to
check blackboard and submit assignments on time. All assignments will be due by 2:10pm and
after this time you will not be able to access/submit any work.

Late Assignments: Homework assignments will NOT be accepted late. All due dates are
known from the beginning of the semester and it is the students responsibility to fix any
conflicts.

Attendance/Participation: All Students are expected to attend all classes. An excused absence,
regardless of the cause, does not relieve the student from the responsibility of making up the
work of the course. Consult the Hunter College Catalog for further information. Attendance and
active participation (asking/answering questions, engaging in classroom activities) will count for
5% of your grade. Lateness will NOT be tolerated. Habitual lateness will result in a lowering of
your grade. Additionally, you will not be permitted to take an exam if you are more than 20
minutes late. Therefore it is encouraged that you get in the habit of attending all classes on time.

Communication: Please only use the email addresses listed on the syllabus, as many emails sent
through Blackboard get lost. You can e-mail me with questions about the course material,
procedures or any other unanswered questions from class (but please check the syllabus before
sending questions, as much of the information is listed here). When e-mailing, please use
PSYCH 150 in the subject line and sign your full name at the end of the email. Additionally,
please use complete sentences and check for spelling errors.

Use of Blackboard: Students in this course are required to use Blackboard. It is your
responsibility to check Blackboard regularly (at least once a week) for announcements and
assignments related to the course. Please configure your Hunter email account to ensure that
your messages are automatically forwarded to the appropriate place where you typically read
your email. It is essential that you are able to receive emails through Blackboard as that will be
the primary means for contacting you outside of class. Again, please do not email me through
BB as these emails tend to get lost or remain undelivered.

Academic Honesty: Please note the following: Hunter College regards acts of academic
dishonesty (e.g., plagiarism, cheating on examinations, obtaining unfair advantage, and
falsification of records and official documents) as serious offenses against the values of
intellectual honesty. The College is committed to enforcing the CUNY Policy on Academic
Integrity and will pursue cases of academic dishonesty according to the Hunter College
Academic Integrity Procedures.
