Article I: NAME

This club, as decided on by the founding members, shall herein be called the VIRGINIA AERO DESIGN
TEAM / HOOS FLYING.
Article II: PURPOSE
The Virginia Aero Design Team / Hoos Flying shall be a competitive team that will design, build, and fly a
radio controlled (R/C) aircraft with the goal of competing in the the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)
AeroDesign Competition, and/or other related competitions. The team shall apply principles learned in the
classroom, become familiar with the design process, gain hands-on building experience, and learn how to pilot
a radio controlled aircraft.
Article III: MEMBERSHIP
The Virginia Aero Design Team / Hoos Flying shall be open to all students, faculty, and staff of the University
of Virginia. Membership shall not be restricted by reason of age, citizenship, color, disability, gender, race,
religion, nation of origin, political affiliation, sexual orientation, or status as a disabled veteran or veteran of
the Vietnam era.
Article IV: OFFICERS
The Virginia Aero Design Team / Hoos Flying shall have the following permanent officer positions: President,
Vice President, and Treasurer. The President shall oversee all club functions, preside over club meetings, and
represent the club in an official capacity. The Vice President's duties shall be to assist the President in
overseeing the club and to take care of the President's duties when he/she is unable to attend. The Treasurer
shall maintain the club funds and shall be in charge of all financial transactions of the club.
Article V: ELECTIONS
In the Spring semester of each academic school year, there shall be a general election of officers to take
office at the inception of the next school year. All due-paying club members are eligible to run for President,
Vice President, and Treasurer positions. To win, candidates must acquire a simple majority of the votes
among due-paying club members. Officers shall serve a term of one year after elections. A specific number of
sub-groups shall be chosen by the President to meet the design needs of the airplane. Sub-group leaders shall
be appointed by their respective group members. If there is an abuse of power, as deemed by due-paying club
members, or if an officer is not fulfilling his/her duties as specified in this constitution, then a vote of no
confidence may be called to remove him/her from office. In order to be removed from office, two-thirds of
the due-paying club members must vote for his/her removal from office. If the vote of no confidence is
successful and the officer is promptly removed from office, there shall be a special election to fill the position
within one week of the vote of no confidence. Also, if an officer feels he/she can no longer fulfill his/her
official duties as mandated by this constitution, he/she may present a written and signed resignation to the
other officers and a special election shall be held within one week of the officer's resignation.
Article VI: MEETINGS
Formal, full member club meetings shall be held on a regular basis, with a frequency decided by the elected
officers. All other meetings, including officer meetings, shall be announced. Informal sub-group meetings shall
be at the discretion of those planning to attend.

Each member of Virginia Aero Design Team / Hoos Flying shall be required to pay a fee of $10. This money
shall be used toward the costs associated with the design and construction of the airplane, and entry to the
chosen competition. At the beginning of each school year, the Treasurer shall collect dues from each member,
draw up a projected club budget for the year, and provide regular reports detailing the account expenditures,
and overall financial situation of the club. All expenditures must be cleared by the Treasurer and President.
Article VIII: AMENDMENTS AND BYLAWS
All proposed amendments and bylaws and changes to the constitution must be presented to the officers. If the
officers and due-paying members agree that the proposed amendment, bylaw, or change is necessary, it shall
be proposed to the entire body of due-paying members. A two-thirds majority of due-paying members and
officers must approve the proposed change. Bylaws shall be subject to referendum.
NON-DISCRIMINATION CLAUSE
The organization will not restrict membership and/or activity by reason of age, citizenship, color, disability,
gender, race, religion, national origin, political affiliation, sexual orientation, or status as a disabled veteran or
veteran of the Vietnam eras. Notwithstanding these requirements, the organization may restrict membership
based on an ability to perform the activities related to the organizations purpose.
