PROBLEM STATEMENT
The number of disabled people is high in number. These people rely on others for their
basic needs. In Greek, Automaton refers to a Robot. In this project we aim to make a robot
that can be controlled with the help of a tongue for the people who are immobile.
ABSTRACT
The main aim of this project is to design and construct a tongue controlled robot and
device switching wirelessly using RF technology. This device is portable and this system
operation is entirely driven by wireless technology. The user can control the Robot directions
with the simple tongue movement and he can also request the basic needs like water, food or
medicine using voice module. This project makes use of DC motors for Robot movement, a
Micro controller, which is programmed, with the help of embedded C instructions. This
microcontroller is capable of communicating with transmitter and receiver modules. The Hall
Effect sensor detects the movement of the tongue and provides the information to the
microcontroller (on board computer) and the controller judges whether the instruction is right
movement or left movement instruction and controls the operation respectively. To perform the
task, the controller is loaded with intelligent program written using Embedded C language.

APPROACH
PIC16F788A perfectly fits many uses, from automotive industries and controlling home
appliances to industrial instruments, remote sensors, electrical door locks and safety devices. It is
ideal because of its low consumption. The project is split into two stages: the hardware stage and
the software stage. The hardware stage consists of a micro controller PIC16F788A and a Hall
Effect sensor which is a transducer that varies its output voltage in response to changes in
magnetic field. Hall sensors are used for proximity switching, positioning, speed detection, and
current sensing applications. The software stage consists of an express PCB that is used for
designing the circuit by interfacing with the PC. The PIC C compiler is used for compilation.
After compilation, the machine source code is converted into hex code which is to be dumped
into the microcontroller for further processing. The Proteus 7 is used for the simulation part.
Proteus is software which accepts only hex files. Once the machine code is converted into hex
code, that hex code has to be dumped into the microcontroller and this is done by the Proteus.
Proteus is a programmer which itself contains a microcontroller in it other than the one which is
to be programmed.
