LO2 Understanding the Creative Media Sector

Understanding ethical and legal constraints within the media

sector
Why is it important to consider ethical issues when producing media?
It is important to consider ethical issues because issues because if there is a bad word or
an on screen event that is racist then they could offend people. So writers and directors
have to be careful of not using racist comments that could offend people. It is also
important to mae sure other ethnic groups are not regularly above or below over ethic
groups unless that is what the film in representing or showing. !n e"ample of it being
displayed is if a director used a one particular race always as criminals. #hings lie racism$
se"ism and other this that people could find offence can be used but it has to be for a
purpose and they are usually portrayed as being bad and not right. In the film this is
%ngland there is a lot of racist language$ but this is aloud because there is a reason to
show it and the racism is portrayed as bad because it leads to a bad thing. Other issues
lie se"ism are hugely important to mae sure there is no one offended$ women in film and
#& are getting more main roles$ but it is important that directors and writers do not portray
women and less important or less superior to men$ this could be done by the language or
'ust the way it is shown.
How is gender represented in film?
#he difference of how men and women are represented in film in more e(ual than it used
to be$ but men are usually the antagonists in action films and women are often the
supporting roles$ where as in dramas a lot of women are the antagonists. I thin men and
women should be represented more e(ually but the casting people go for who they thin
will be right for the film. In some situations I do thin the roles between men and women
should be fairer but some already are as well.
What is the Films Act (1985?
#he )*+, films act is an act that the government put in place to avoid several parts of
producing a film ta"ing each over which will ultimately be more beneficial for the people
maing the movie.
What is the !ideo "ecordings Act (198#?
It is an act that says that all video recordings that are going to be sold have been approved
and checed by an authority.
