to be tolerant simply means that you are weak, and
allow others to do as they wish, without interfering.
To confuse it with being liberal is a mistake. Liberality
would proclaim itself tolerant, true, and this piece
would criticize liberalist politicians quite nicely. But I
don't follow the line about not being open minded in
the same way as the rulers. I haven't really heard
anything to imply that the rulers were doing anything
to limit open-mindedness, only to allow for its
continuation.

It is a well-known fact that reality has liberal bias.

views, but then are shocked and offended to discover
that there are other views.

conviction. Liberals are not necessarily lukewarm. Only the more
macho leftist suspects that they have no balls. You can be ardently
neutral, and fiercely indifferent.

Online liberalism, as Ive said many times, is not actually a series
of political beliefs and alliances but instead a set of social cues that
are adopted to demonstrate ones class background economic
class, certainly, but more cultural class, the various linguistic and
consumptive signals that assure those around you that youre the
right kind of person and which appear to be the only thing that
Americas 20-something progressives really care about anymore.
The dominance of personal branding and cultural signaling over
political theory means that liberal attitudes change very rapidly
and then congeal into a consensus that is supposedly so obviously
correct that it does not need defending.

Is it just me or are liberals getting more and more bad
names? Theyre called something that theyve
historically called conservatives: intolerant. The
accusation against liberals isnt just that theyre
doing something wrong, but that theyre doing the
very thing they say they hate. Liberals say that the
individual should be able to live the life they choose
as long is their life of choice doesnt harm another
person. But, if their accusers are to be believed,
liberals have recently been busy betraying their own
principle of tolerance.
