Grade 11 Disease HEAP To Save a Life (TSAL)

Essential Question: How can we reduce the number of people who suffer from ____,
and how can we help the people who are suffering from ____?
Create a Prevention and Support Center for your disease topic
OR
Create a Public Service Announcement about your topic
1. Research: (as a teamdo in the teams Google Doc)
Work with your team to find information that helps you define the disease and form ideas about how to prevent this
disease and how to help people already suffering from this disease.
2. Sources: Websites Accessed Log (individual)
3. Create a Plan for your Center of your PSA for your assigned disease or disease category.
4. Create a Google Doc Presentation with your team members to present your disease to the class. If you made a
movie, upload it as a link to your Presentation.
5. Final Projecta video or Google Doc presentation
(To be safe, you should have a movie or presentation in Google Docs and on a memory stick, or in at least one
other place so you are sure to have it to present.)
Answer the essential question in relation to your disease topic.
Your presentation should definitely include the following as background information:
Definition of the disease or issue, and signs, and symptoms of the disease or diseases related to your topic
Historical perspective and statistical information about the disease(s) and/or issue
Treatment, prognosis, and prevention information about the disease(s) involved
Your project should definitely do the following:
Educate the audience about the disease (be thorough and use current information)
Convince the audience that those at-risk should care and make changes in their lives to reduce their risks
You are advocating for saving lives and improving public health!
The final project should
Be a slide presentation or a video.
Be creative with graphics.
Have internal citations or numbered footnotes with a full bibliography in MLA format. Any source
with np or nd will not be accepted.
Include a minimum of SIX current and valid sources (internet, newspaper, magazine, brochure, expert
interviews).
