TRACKELAST
SYSTEMS BY
Continuous rail support in vertical & lateral
direction
Reduction of noise & vibration
Electrical isolation against stray current
Virtually maintenance free
Savings in construction costs
Rail tracks accessible by emergency vehicles
Long history for all kinds of rail traffic (1973)
Embedded Rail System (ERS) certified and approved
ERS in tunnels: Cost reduction and increase of safety
ERS in tunnels: Cost reduction and increase of safety
Considerable reduction of Tunnel Cross Section
Considering the local and international importance and large investments
allocated to such railway projects the final implemented project should be a
durable and long lasting, maintenance free system, designed to International
standards but still an affordable solution.
Savings made during the implementation period, by installing a smooth flat
embedded rail system, can often reduce tunneling and removal of tunnel waste
by up to 10% with the EDILON Corkelast

Embedded Rail system.

Tunnels Special Economical Feature
3. Cost reduction:
The first tunnel (ERS) has a perimeter of C
1
=2R
1
=25.13 m and the second tunnel (ballasted) a perimeter of C
2
=2R
2
=26.55 m.
So the difference is C=1.42 m. Based on the knowledge that the thickness of the tunnel shield is 0.32 m.
Therefore, per meter we save 1.42x0.32 = 0.4544 m
3
of concrete.
Given the fact that the special prefab elements, as in tunnels, cost approximately 1000 per m
3
then the cost reduction per meter
is 454.
1. Reduction in construction
height:
From the first picture (two tunnels)
we see the difference in Radius is
0.225m (R4225-R4000). So, in total
the tunnel diameter is reduced by
0.45 m.
2. Reduction in excavated debris
the difference between ERS and
Ballasted tunnel is
S=(R1
2
-R2
2
)= 5.81 m
2
or more
than 10.4%in reduced debris
